Diners that deliver?? YES PLEASE!!
Sometimes on a Saturday afternoon in the Heights, when it's cloudy and grey and you don't feel like putting real clothes on there are little miracles. That day Tommy's was my saving grace, bringing me a huge mushroom, onion, cheese omelette with perfectly cooked potatoes and whole wheat toast already buttered. It was a very large omelette and I'm surprised I ate the whole thing. A little on the drier side (hate runny omelettes) onions and mushrooms sautéed and folded into American cheese and egg. And how the potatoes were perfected salted and crunchy I don't know but I loved it. The other lazy person in the room ordered a grill cheese on rye with a side of bacon and I don't think I've ever seen him eat so fast.
Nothing fancy about it but when you deliver food that is not soggy or cold and tastes like you were in the restaurant you get good points with me.
This little diner is absolutely great! Hole in the wall, small, and so local! Went a few weeks ago and ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel, so good. Will definitely be back to try more of their food!
This is a great little diner spot! I'm embarrassed to say as a JC-native that this was my first time here. But I'm really glad I came. I ordered the turkey BLT wrap with fries and a slice of the chocolate cream pie. Everything was delicious! The wrap was slightly buttery from toasting it on the grill but it was still pretty dang awesome. Best of all, they weren't stingy with the turkey. The fries were really crispy and perfectly fried! And the chocolate cream pie tasted homemade! Sweet and creamy, but not cloying.
My husband usually orders their cheeseburgers or the corned beef hash with eggs, toast and home fries. The burger is cooked well-done but not dry. It's tasty and filling. My husband is not a fan of home fries but I'm sure you can request French fries as a substitute if you're not into that either. The corned beef is really satisfying! It's fresh corned beef, not the canned stuff! My husband's only complaint is that they need to leave it on the griddle for a few minutes longer so there's some crispy bits in there.
Maria, the woman who took care of us during my first meal there, was a sweetheart! Can't complain about the service. My husband and I couldn't but help notice that she knew everyone else in the diner. Through the whole meal, people either popped in off of Central just to say hello to her or left bidding Maria a good night or saying "See you tomorrow Maria!" I guess we all want to feel like Norm some of the time.
I should've left my positive review when I first came here, and left it at that. Unfortunately, my most recent experience here was not a pleasant one. Let me start off by saying this … there is nothing wrong with the food here. It's your typical diner menu with everything from subs to pancakes (and everything in between). My fiancé loves the meatloaf. The paninis are pretty good, but I always stick with my disco fries, which are actually pretty great here. I have to give credit where it's due.
Now, onto my issue. The service here, or lack thereof, is awful. The staff is friendly for the most part, but unbelievably inattentive. I almost never care about things like this, but it is a serious problem at this joint. I'll make a list:
1) We were never given utensils and actually had to remind our waitress to give them to us.
2) She never checked to see if we needed drink refills (which we did). In fact, we had to ask the CHEF, because it seemed as if she was actively ignoring us.
3) I asked for sauce on the side instead of on the sandwich. She brought it to me and said, "They forgot to put the sauce on the side, but it's okay, right?" (No, it WASN'T okay, and I wish I had the balls to have said so at the time. I knew I wouldn't like the sauce.)
4) We asked for the check and she hung behind the counter chatting it up with a coworker instead of bringing it to us. We watched as she continued for talk for about 5 minutes, before my fiancé had enough and got up to request it again.
While we are NOT the type of people to not leave a tip, regardless of the circumstances, we were very close that day. To sum it up, I'm not saying that I'll never eat there again (I'm sure I will), but I'll be sure to just have it delivered in the future.
A little bit of a greasy spoon in the heights! I had the veggie omelette (onions, mushrooms, tomatoes) and I added american cheese. The omelette was a little too over stuffed, but it was still ok. Served with fries and toast. Coffee was also good. The waitresses were of the no nonsense type, but very good. They checked that we had all our food, and made several refill rounds. Overall I enjoyed my food and the service and will definitely be back. Oh, and the mayor was having breakfast at the next table!
Small old school diner vibe in the Heights and they DELIVER!!!!!!!
Standard diner fare that you will find anywhere. The quality of the food is great with prices to match. The service is almost from another time. You will be looking for Flo when you walk in there. Very friendly.
I love the Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwiches, the gyros, the burgers, the fries, and my favorite- Meatloaf sandwich…… Pancakes are pretty damn good as well….
And if I didn't say it before- THEY DELIVER…. Can't express in words how awesome that is.
Have Fun
I love tommys breakfast! I always get their corned beef and hash, it's the best I've ever had! It's a neighborhood place so there are regulars and staff knows a lot of people by first name. They're very friendly, and I love their coffee as well!
I wanted breakfast for lunch so i called ahead of time to make sure they did….looks tight when you walk in, but what a gold mine of a find for a place to grab great food…alot of space in the back…place had a lot of customers but enough seating to sit more….they had booths to the left, counter seating to the right…..decent prices and great breakfast…. i paid $14.15 i believe for sunny side up eggs, taylor ham, breakfast potatoes, orange juice, toast, and pancakes….ate everything, i dont waste food on this side lol #fatboyproblems…all and all great place to eat local…
