Tomo Japanese Cuisine

“Tomo delivered splendidly, especially since sashimi and sushi is only a dollar a piece.”

“we live just down the street and have been really excited for something other than happy kitchen (81st/37th ave) to open up, and we were not disappointed.”

“I have Tomo about 5x a month, I would so love to eat more if I could, but it does get pretty pricey so i cant 🙁 But $1 a la carte sushi, yeah!!”

  1. Decent sushi for delivery. We've never dined at the restaurant but this is my go to sushi place in my neighboring. They also make pretty good udon and tempura.

  2. The salad dressing was good. Sad that they didn't have any noodles for a noodle order. Asked for a fried scallop roll or crunchy scallop roll but they didn't have that neither. My daughter loved the shrimp tempura roll with cream cheese. I tried the next step up that included kani on top. I liked the shrimp tempura roll more. Also tried the chicken fried rice. That was okay.

  3. Got delivery for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I was tired of getting mediocre sushi from East 21. We ordered the sushi and roll combo and it came within 30 minutes. The sushi came at room temperature and was really good! The plus was that we got salad and miso soup as part of the combo. Yum! Might start to become our go-to sushi delivery.

  4. I really love it's place.

If I'm in queens this is definitely the place will be going.

Their Philadelphia roll is on point and I got the chance to trying of their special rolls which was so good. Their dinner bento box is delicious and perfectly! The shumai that comes with it is so good as well as the chicken teriyaki. The Kani salad is good too!

I really do love this place. Go go people go!!

  5. My rating here is solely, based on my experience with their Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream. I have not tried the sushi here as of yet!

I love Green Tea, and Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream is always a plus!! Living conveniently down 2 blocks from this place, I occasionally drop by to get my fix with their Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream. It's delicious, though having the Tempura batter a little less thick would definitely make this the perfect dessert!!

Also, with the number of times I've been here, their service hasn't always been the best. Either they have gotten the order wrong (yup, just on ice cream!) or they forget to provide spoons for the ice cream etc. Definitely room for improvement on their customer service skills!

All that being said, I'm a bit picky when it comes to sushi, so I haven't found the courage to  try out their sushi here yet…Guess I will have to wait and update this review when I do!

  6. Tomo is such an underrated sushi spot, and it's our go-to when we want casual no-frills sushi in a slightly nicer environment than Happy Kitchen (yelp.com/biz/happy-kitch…).

The food here comes in large portions and is always fresh. They also have a $1 per piece sushi special that can't be beat.

Service is fine and tea is free. I'm a fan.

  7. 3 ROLL COMBO GO GO GO!

I always order the 3 roll combo because you really can't beat ~18 pcs of sushi for $9.95.  I always order the EEL AVOCADO, SPICY TUNA W CRUNCH, and SHRIMP TEMPURA ROLL. Those are probably the MOST EXPENSIVE rolls in the SELECTION you can choose from.

The SUSHI is MADE WELL and what I mean by that is the sushi COMPONENTS are GENERALLY GOOD and TASTY. The RICE is YUMMY and not mushy. They aren't cheap on the fish and their rolls are DECENT SIZED. Lately, I've gotten some pieces that weren't rolled properly or were kind of sloppy, but that's me being picky here. As long as the components are good, I'm happy.

SASHIMI (SALMON, FLUKE, YELLOWTAIL, TUNA, RED CLAM)–tasted "FRESH" but of course, it isn't about how fresh the fish is.

TATSUTA AGE–DRY and BLAND. I wish they used more oil to cook the chicken in.

IKAMARU–BIG piece of BBQ SQUID! Tasted great with the teriyaki sauce! Glad they gave us the TENTACLES too!!

Considering it is Chinese owned and a typical run of the mill sushi place, their food is SATISFYING when I want to FULFILL MY CRAVINGS.

  8. I have been to the Tomo Japanese Restaurant by Queens Center Mall multiple times so I was excited to find this location next to my new house. I decided to take my mom who never had Japanese food, not even sushi.
I ordered two bento box specials so she could try a bit of everything.
I tried really hard to like this place, but the waitresses were rude, basically slamming the food on the table, the salad was drowned in ginger, there was hardly any chicken in the chicken teriyaki, the seating was bad and overall the customer service was blah.
For a taste of Tomo you will enjoy I suggest you go to their other location on Queens Blvd.
