  1. Bottom line: good sushi, friendly staff, quick delivery.

I've gotten good food several times from Tomo; mostly sushi, but their gyoza is decent and their fried rice is excellent.  Seriously, it sounds strange, but their fried rice is some of the best I've ever had – it has real meat, fresh veggies, and not much grease.  The pad thai wasn't very good, but I'm willing to let that slide.

The restaurant itself is nice by Bushwick standards, and the sushi chefs have good fish to work with and appear to know what they're doing.  Glad to have it in the neighborhood.

  2. I love Tomo. It always surprises me, when I eat here and see it's barely full. The prices are amazing and so is the service and food. The wait is never long, the food is always delicious and the bill is always "just right". I'm not a big fan of sushi, so I can't comment on that, but the desserts are fabulous, the bento boxes are well worth the money and the appetizers are out-of-this-world. If you haven't visited Tomo yet, you don't know what you're missing.

I also recommend grabbing a mint on the way out, because they are magical.

  3. It is fine…the sushi is fresh and the location is somewhat convenient considering there aren't too many other sushi joints in the area.

The service leaves a bit to be desired. There is one person who waits on the tables and seems to be some kind of manager or owner – in any case she is prickly at best.

The prices seems a teensy bit inflated…I prefer Akaru down the street on Wycoff. The service and prices are better and the sushi is comparable.

I'm not giving a three star as a 'bad' rating – its just definitively A-Ok.

  4. I was so happy to find a sushi restaurant within walking distance from my house.  The cool place to sit is out back on the patio if the weather permits, it is a sweet escape from the urban landscape outside.  The staff here is really nice and there are many regulars.

This is not a place to eat raw fish, nor is it prepared by Japanese sushi chefs.  The chefs were speaking both Mandarin and Cantonese.  It is more of a neighborhood place to get rolls and salads.  I really liked the layered sushi, instead of a roll, it was something new to me.  Like an Eel Napoleon, cut into tiny bites.

They also have Thai Iced Tea.

  5. No. The answer to your question, is no.

This place has got to be the worst sushi place ever. Period.

After attempting to call delivery for 30 minutes, we decided to walk over. It was 2pm, and hunger had taken over everything. After a 15 minute walk, we arrived, and the place was dead. Not sure why they didn't answer the phone… maybe they were avoiding calls. No lunch rush.

We ordered from the obnoxious lady at the counter, and of course the simple 4-5 rolls we ordered took about 25 minutes to make. By the time we got our food and walked back, it was already around 4pm. Not sure how that amount of time passed.

We opened our bag, and of course, one order was missing and antoher one was completely wrong.

There's nothing more I can say. It could have been bad luck, but I don't feel like coin-tossing my level of hunger, because you can bet my level of rage will be greater.

Oh, and of course… I could have gotten food poisoning, but didn't. That would have completed the package.

  6. I'm reading the delivery reviews below and I am so surprised because our delivery service experience was on point compared to other places!

We ordered through Grub Hub because we were craving Asian food and I had to work on papers due tonight so we decided to stay in. After placing the order, Grub Hub said it would arrive in 45 minutes.

We received it earlier in only about 30 minutes and the place is located about 2 miles away! The delivery person was pleasant and even gave us a phone call, which we requested in the "Notes" section.

We checked everything in the bag to make sure it was all there and they were! We ordered a shrimp teriyaki bento box, pad Thai noodles, taro bubble tea, almond bubble tea and a Thai iced tea. The food was warm and looked perfect. The bubble tea and Thai iced tea were cold and delicious. There were no spills and the food was packaged perfectly.

We were so happy with this delivery service and our tummys are so full and content after gorging on this delicious food. We will definitely order from here again!
