  1. Based on other Yelp reviews, I guess  I was fortunate that Top Thai lived up to its name on the day I went. This small restaurant is pretty, with a large mirrored pane reflecting back a huge lotus painting; the trompe l'oeil effect making the place seem larger than it is. I didn't have the bad service a few Yelpers complained out. The place was packed, but the woman who took my order was friendly and efficient. And the food itself? The vegetable pad kee maow was a huge portion of fat rice noodles, chock full of zucchini, bell peppers, baby corn, snow peas, carrots, broccoli, onions, eggplant, cabbage, baby bok choi…err, did I leave any veggies out? The chili sauce had egg bits and had an incredible marriage of flavors, garlic–chili, soy, vinegar, basil, fish sauce? and tamarind?. It was supremely tasty and packed surprising heat. A Thai restaurant I would definitely return to.

  2. Ordered for pick up and wasn't disappointed. I am a huge fan of Thai food and they have mastered the Massaman curry. I will definitely order again.

  3. Top Thai is a small little restaurant. It seats about a dozen though it seems like their focus is delivery and takeout orders being that they had an entire table dedicated to such. We decided to dine.

For starters, we had the red curry fish cakes. The cakes came with a sweet and slightly bitter vinegar sauce with cucumbers and crushed peanuts. I found the fish cakes to be a little bland, but they paired well with the multifaceted sauce. We also split the chicken pad thai which came out moments after the cakes. The pad thai had robust flavors and a perfectly soft texture.

  4. The food was phenomenal and the friendly service won us over. We were addressed right away upon entrance to the restaurant. This place is very cozy and homey. Although small, there was lots of foot traffic in and out of the restaurant.

We got the chicken Pad Thai and the chicken Top Thai fried rice. The Pad Thai had the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and sour. The beansprouts and carrots added a nice crunch to the dish. The Top Thai fried rice had a good salt content and tasted very fresh. Overall, the portions were extremely generous for the price! We will be back.

  5. So small – this place is so small. There are around 6 tables in this place and at first it was an optical allusion. Haha! The one wall is a full mirror, which originally made the restaurant look bigger. It was kind of cool.

The service was very average to bad. It took them forever to get our check at the end, to the point that my boyfriend had to actually go up and get it.

The food was really good, though. This is the most important thing, in my opinion.

As an appetizer, we had the fried squid. To be honest, you don't get that much squid – but for only $7, it was decent. The breeding on the squid was so flaky that it just completely fell off when I put my fork in it. It came with a spicy mayo and a Thai chili sauce. Both were very tasty. Overall, I would order the squid again.
    For dinner…
I had the duck pad Thai. It was my first time having duck and it was cooked really well. I enjoyed it. Pad Thai is my favorite in general and the noodles and flavors were on point.

My boyfriend had #57, which was a spicy duck dish. It came with rice and THE BEST sauce/broth. I kept dipping my pad Thai duck in it. Very impressed.

For drinks – I had the lychee iced tea, which was sweet, but not too sweet. I liked that there were actually lychee pieces in it so I got to taste the fruit.

My boyfriend had the Thai iced tea – which was full of flavor and very good. I liked his better because there was some sort of milk in it.

Overall, if "eh" service isn't your concern, I would highly recommend coming here. Great Thai food and a great menu.

  6. A little hole in the wall place that makes you feel safe because its clean. You don't expect much when you walk in but the food is really good.

Ive ordered pineapple fried rice and chicken pad thai and have not been disappointed. The food is made relatively quickly although sometimes you have to wait if it is crowded.

The portions are definitely good for the price I usually always have leftover food for the next day which I like. Many small restaurants the staff is not that nice but this staff has been nice every time i walk in to order something.

I would recommend this place for a good quick meal.

  7. Food tasted authentic..solid 4 stars!

I was in search for some local Thai food and always overlooked Top Thai as a takeout joint due to its tiny store. Service was friendly, but our water was not refilled throughout our meal. The heat was blasting down on the seats by the mirror, which made me very uncomfortable on a 50 degree day.

Curry Puffs $6.95 – It came with 4 delicious puffs. I can eat 10 of these! The outside was flaky and inside had some hot curry. It didn't taste spicy though. Get this!

Pad Kee Mao + Beef $10.95 – Equivalent to the Drunken Noodles. It was spicy and flavorful. The noodles tasted very fresh as well. If you enjoy eating spicy food, get this. Portion was just right.

Pad Woon Sen + Beef $10.95 – Tasty, not too salty, and a good portion of beef. No complaints here.

Thai Iced Tea $3.50/Lychee Thai Iced Tea $3.00 – Both were very good and served in a mason jar glass. Lychee was a bit sweeter than expected, but the Thai Iced Tea was a winner.

Parking can be a problem. It's a popular shopping area so it's expected.

  8. Little more than a (clean) hole in the wall, this place is solid for Thai. The first time I came in, I didn't expect much. If anything, it looked like a Chinese takeout place with some seating. Plus, there really aren't Thai places out in this neck of the Brooklyn woods. How good can it be?

Well, it turns out that it's pretty darn good. I've been back a number of times when in this part of Bay Ridge and will say that it's a pretty solid option for Thai. Not the crap SE Asian food I've come to expect out of the lower half of Brooklyn. If you're in the area and craving Thai, I do recommend Top Thai.
