Toro Loco
“I always get their sangria, but this past weekend I decided to try a margarita here.”
“I prefer it over Don Jose's and many other Mexican places around though I'll admit I havent tried many of the entrees aside from steak or chicken fajitas.”
“The food was all for a great price, not too expensive and the drinks were perfect price, especially the pitchers.”

I'm giving this place three stars but only because of the location. The food is terrible! I had a quesadilla. Simple enough, right? No. It was watery with sauce and yet flavorless at the same time. My friends and I went there after seeing a movie and it was around 10:30 when we got there. So maybe it's because it was kind of late? Not entirely sure but it was GROSS. The service was okay. One of my friends found something in his drink. My other friend got a dirty "to go" container. Ew. Don't go to this place if you can avoid it.
Toro Loco is a fun, lively place and what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. It's large enough to have a few rooms. It has the typical Mexican stuff on the walls. It's fun. The service is good. There's a bar.
Food is okay – nothing special, but will hit the spot if you're in the mood for it. It's not authentic, but I don't think they're going for that. It's great for parties and hanging out with friends. They are child friendly and even more important stroller friendly.
I tried this place on date night and it was great! Inexpensive and convenient.
PROS:
– The drinks were good – not too strong
– We were immediately seated and served
– The food arrived in 10-15 minutes from ordering AND it was fresh (you can always tell if something was microwaved)
– 3 margaritas, a seafood dish and an enchilada meal came up to $50 wiling tax. Not bad for south orange!
CONS:
– small bathroom (only two stalls)
– hard to find parking on Fridays & Saturday's
I would definitely eat here again!
This place is like a restaurant Gordon Ramsey would visit to try to save. The decor and the cuisine are stuck somewhere in the 1980s, like a Disney or resort caricature of a Mexican restaurant. There was no one in the restaurant but they seated us all the way in the back corner. The waiters are nice but the food came out so fast it had to be microwaved. My mole sauce tasted old or stale, just not a nice flavor. The chicken was weird too. And the pile of yellow rice was wholly unappealing next to the dung like puddle of refried beans. Get Tito's instead; it's fresher.
I came here once before after work, today it was for a celebration with a group of 7. For the our group the food came relatively quick too which was good. They accomodated us well. There wasn't too many other people being served but they had lots of servers for our table. I had the chimichangas and black bean soup side. The soup was ok, wasn't very much bean in it, I counted 2. The chimichangas were good and filling just as I expected, nothing exciting though. There is plenty of space to sit be it bar or table which is good. the order server messed up my drink order, minor but I clearly told him what I wanted – a club soda, he brought me a sprite. Though the food was good, there was nothing really noteworthy about it. Good prices though which I'd say is the highlight of going here.
Been here a couple of times , when I first started coming here I used to love the place . Everything tasted fresh but is not authentic Mexican but that was years ago… Now it is still not authentic but is no longer fresh…
For starters I had went for lunch one day and got the lunch special for the chicken soup it wasn't fresh , the chicken in the soup tasted like it was leftover chicken and thrown into boiling water after the soup was done , the soup was flavorless…
Also ordered 3 tacos 2 beef and 1 chicken, and it came along with retried beans and rice ….
Ughh where to start…. The beef tacos where drench in oil completely inedible , the chicken taco was worse just thinking about it it gets me mad and makes not want to eat chicken…. Again it tasted like leftover chicken and to make matters worse it still pieces of chicken skin and fat… Why????? I was at a lunch meeting that's why I didn't complain but lord knows if I was able to complain I would had…
I had to eat the rice and pretend I was full with the few bites I ate… And the refried beans looked like they opened a can and just threw it on the plate…
Now why 3 stars instead of
1 because their margaritas are out of this world.
2 it shouldn't be a Mexican restaurant it should be a wing spot ,because they have wings and they're addictive.
3 whenever I go the service is quick and the waiter (although the food is horrible)is very attentive.
So I used to go to Toro with my friend. We would always be seated in the dining area. Usually, we'd be next to a family with their kids (South Orange is very family friendly). The kids are usually well behaved for the most part, but I would always censor what I talked about since there were little ninos around.
Finally, one day, I went to Toro with my boyfriend and we were seated at the bar. Way different experience and much preferred. You can really relax, have a drink, and eat some good Mexican food.
I date a vegetarian and there are good options. However, the carne asada is good, too, as well as the chicken fajita. When I go there, I'll either get the chile rellenos or the tamales.
During the warmer seasons, there is also outdoor seating, too. Toro Loco is a fun place and I'd recommend it.
Came here on a late Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty empty. I was expecting a crowded lively/bar, but that was not the case. Not sure if it was the time of day or what. To start off, I ordered the Spicy Margarita and my cousin ordered the Toro Loco Margarita. Both were delicious yet strong. For meals, I ordered the Chicken Chimichungas and my cousin ordered the Chuletas de Puerco. My chimichungas were very average and nothing to rave about – It came with three mini chimichungas a small portion of rice and salad and a large side of refired beans. My cousin loved her pork chops – they were chargrilled and came with the same sides. The service was verrrryyyyy sllllooooooowwwww and you aren't set with just one server. We had to ask 3 times in order to get a refill on salsa. Overall its an OK place to grab Mexican or a drink if you are in the area.
