  1. Does anyone know which bakery delivers their za'atar bread (zaatar bread)?

I bought za'atar bread fom their fresh bread section on a whim. Was skeptical of it and stupidly gave it to some friends to try (BEFORE I tried it with some yogurt), now I keep craving it. Have gone back 3 times (the employee there said the bakery delivers on Mondays & Thursdays), but they still don't have it and they keep telling me to come back the next day.

Does anyone know where I can find this premade bread in Queens? (I know I can probably buy the spice and make it myself… My Lebanese co-worker said this version is less oily than the one she gets at a bakery near Queens Blvd.) I wonder if places at the Astoria Blvd. end of Steinway has this.

As far as a review for this supermarket, I'm glad that they remodeled and have a section of organic vegetable and fruit (and milk). I drive out of my way to come here for their fresh vegetables and lower prices. Their packaged halal meats are very good quality and reasonably priced. The Deli Counter worker is very friendly and quick (not always in the past) I always leave finding everything I need (except za'atar!).

  2. Trade Fair is an evil necessity. If it is 3 AM and you need to buy some food cause your hungry, you go here. Otherwise, run, run faster than a speedy bullet.

A few things bug me about this place. After going in a few times I notice that someone will always follow you. I notice that security does this to everyone. It is very rude to suspect everyone of theft, If you ask a question about something they are usually rude. I don't know if it is a language barrier or time of night but I always feel unwelcome. Customer service is big with me.

The produce is not always fresh. It is brown or dark around the edges. Not the best. The meats look OK but your not getting value. Forget the deli section. I have concerns about clean blades on the slicer. Bread is not rotated on a daily basis.

I have not seen their NYHD grade yet????????????
The place looks a bit dishevel.

Like I said, if you need an emergency purchase at 2 or 3 AM, go for it. Otherwise wait till the competition opens in the morning.

  3. 1) The aisles are pretty f'ing narrow. And since it's Queens, no two people speak the same language – so no one bothers to say "excuse me".

    2) You have never seen such a complete "Goya" aisle.

    3) Did you need a whole halal goat, complete with head?

(So at this point we're maybe talking 2 or 3 stars … )

    4) The best Wall Of Shame in the city. They photograph you with the sh– you stole. (I think they single-handedly kept Polaroid in business.)
