  1. When I lived in New York, there were few moments when I went to Trader Joe's and stood in line all the way in the back of the store. I remember telling myself how Trader Joe's is the unicorn of all supermarkets and that the prices are worth being farts away from the register.

Now with this Edgewater location, I can now take a breather and get some sort of peace with less folks roaming around and smaller lines. Now that the hectic experience of Trader Joe's by Union Square, NYC is out of my head, I can finally relax and read ingredients without worrying about that sort of nightmare. The great part of a more relaxed store is that instead of rushing and being impulsive, I can now read the quality ingredients prior to purchasing and even at times get my hands on that virgin coconut oil that is the holy grail to all Trader Joe's. I am experiencing Trader Joe's like a happy up norther and doing cart wheels over their prices.

Trader Joe's has always had a special place in my heart, even in NYC I will still visit it even if I get cursed and the store looks like a typical Black Friday sale. It's worth the shopping trip.

  2. Groceries on the Hudson, stop #2.

Like a mini Whole Foods, Trader Joe's has a few things that are awesome and so cheap you'd be crazy not to get them here.  Moderate crowds at all times, there is plenty of parking and a Red Mango 4.6 feet away just in case you want to get some delicious ice cream on your way in/out.

You will find a lot of employees around and about, always unpacking something.  In the handful of times since i've started coming here for select items, there is always someone unboxing and shelving bagged lettuce and arugula at a rate that could only be considered near-olympic.

    The good:
-Cheap cheap cheap cheap for just about everything.
-The people that work here look happy, and are actually really nice.

    The meh:
-They don't carry everything, or even close to everything.  No deli, no seafood, no meat counter.
-Unless you only eat a handful of food items, you'll probably have to go somewhere else to finish stocking up your fridge.
-The meat selection is okay, but I don't find it as astonishingly cheap as A&P or even Whole Foods (if it is on sale there).

Come here for: produce (lettuce, arugula, baby carrots, select fruit, among other things), pretty much anything you'd find in the frozen food section (fruit, veggies, fries), pasta sauce, peanut butter (and related items) and DEFINITELY COME HERE FOR THE BREAD.

Their giant $2.99 loaf of San Fransisco Sourdough is the best thing i've ever tasted.

  3. Great prices on frozen meals. Love their low fat chicken chow mein and chicken fried rice! This location is all one level which is so appreciate compared to the UWS location in NYC.

  4. Great memories here. I miss coming here. I miss a lot of things, but I miss the company the most. This store is busy but I know why, they sell products that are usually marketed as organic or fair-trade. They do a relatively decent job with flow of foot traffic to the registers, given the sheer number of people bustling through this relatively small supermarket.

  5. Holy bananas, give me my armor. This place is just as crowded as it used to be when I first visited a long time ago when it first opened – but back then, it was because everyone was "ZOMG US RIVER SIDE PEEPS JUST GOT BLESSED WITH A TRADER JOE'S, WOOHOO!"
I live on the waterside, and with a back garage door that leads straight to River Road, it's a short 5 min drive- but the convenience stops there. I always told myself I'll come back on weekdays, but I just never really got around doing that. My SO and I do our giant grocery shopping sprees on Sundays, so we try to take on every store we can before going to his place in Hoboken.

I have quite a lot of options in my area (Fort Lee/Edgewater) for groceries. There's H Mart, Mitsuwa, Whole Foods, and all ton of ACMEs, all within just a couple minutes drive from me (and a couple minutes from TJs). I prefer the NYC Trader Joe's – they're huge. This one is TINY and there's barely any room to move with such narrow aisles. The produce is amazing and I love Trade Joe's brand items but this particular store doesn't carry much. You'll have to make another stop if you want to get anything other than frozen foods and produce – at least that's the case for me (and we ended up going to every grocery store except H Mart this time since we went the weekend before). The bread selection also sucked and the expiration dates were all just too close for comfort. It was absolute anarchy the day we went. There were no carts, not that you would be able to move one along without jabbing someone's knee. The organic selection is attractive, but the lack of variety in items available isn't promising. I'll come by if I need Trader Joe's turkey chili or veggie patties for my baby's grill days, but I'm not keeping this one in my back pocket. Orrrrr, I'll just make sure not to come on a Sunday.

  6. This TJ's never has a line and because of that, we're inseparable. But seriously, I've come here plenty of times (peak weekend hours included) and have yet to wait on a single line. I don't even think that I've ever waited behind a single person before to be honest. Coming from NYC this is unfathomable, but I'm not complaining one bit.

The store itself is extremely clean and well-organized, and although there's a general buzz of people the aisles also never feel super crowded. There is plenty of room to navigate your cart without bumping into anyone. It's a tad smaller than some other Trader Joe's that I've been to, but they still have most if not all of their signature items.

There isn't wine here…wompppppp womp. But I do usually pick up a bouquet of five dollar flowers for a little pick me up. That, with some cookie butter and no lines and I'm a happy gal!

  7. I've been shopping at trader Joes for 15 years when they barely existed on the east coast. While they have maintained low prices the quality of fresh produce has declined significantly. In fact I stopped buying fruit here because it's guaranteed to be partially spoilt. Id rather pay a bit more at whole foods and get fresher and unspoiled produced. The olive oil popcorn I used to love was perfectly moist and crunchy now it's dry and tasteless. You can feel some bean counter ratcheting down the quantity and quality of ingredients over time. What a shame

  8. I love Trader Joe's!  That being said, this location is wonderful.  I always find what I need, and I'm in and out of the store quickly.

During the winter months I sometimes even stop in during my lunch break, and leave my food in the car.  (I only do this when the temperature outside is colder then the inside of my refrigerator, LOL)

Stopping in on the weekend is something I try to avoid as it is often crowded.  I usually stop in during the week directly after work.

The best part about shopping at Trader Joe's is that I feel like I never make random purchases.  I always buy exactly what I need to, and I'm in and out of the store rather quickly.  I'd definitely recommend this location!
