Tre Giovani

“I can't recall any other dishes other than ravioli al funghetto, so they must have been pretty average.”

“Both pastas were executed with perfection and remained al dente throughout the dinner!”

“Came here on a recommendation from a friend who has been dining at Tre Giovani since his NYU undergrad days.”

  1. Good lunch prices and huge servings! I was surprised they even asked if we wanted the pasta al dente or well done when taking the order. My penne vodka filled me up and gave me a food coma.

    Service is kinda slow though.

  2. I came here for my sister's bachelorette and it was awesome.  The service was swift.  We had a party of 15ish and the waitresses were quick.  Water refilled, champagne classes refilled (even though our bottle was sitting on the table right under our noses).  I got the lasagna (not on the menu) which was really good.  The marina was amazing and goes great with the complimentary bread.  Most places are unbearably salty for me.  The polenta was also really good, though I think it could use more truffle oil (only because I loooove truffle oil).  Everything on the menu looked so good…. I can't wait to go back and try everything.  The portions?  AMAZING!

  3. This is not a fancy place by any means, and there are much trendier restaurants in the area. But this is one of my favourites – especially for the pizza!

I try to visit whenever I'm in New York.

  4. I am surprised that we did our 12-person dinner. It felt like half of the restaurant was taken over by us. The small space did not dim the high standard for food and service in this long standing restaurant next to the main NYU campus and Washington Sq.

First, I like the Trinity Oak Pinot Noir. It is not a BYOB and $15 fee will be applied if you bring you own wine. The staffs are. Rey professional and gave us a full disclosure of tonight's special. The free bread is OK, warm but in average quality. The dipping sauce is the first highlight. It is a mixture of grounded olive, garlic, spicy, and olive oil. My order of linguine with shrimp, garlic, cheese is not the best part of the night. Not like the photo posted by other helpers, my dish is plain and does not have enough flavor. The ship on the other hand was perfect cooked. It is under cooked and I wish there could be more seafood taste. However the good service compensated my dissatisfaction for the dish.

  5. I decided to try more local places and finally ventured to Tre Giovani, which is a stone's throw from my building. The dining room is simple and rustic: wood tables without checkered tablecloths. It seems to be super-popular with families–both local and visiting, at least on the weekends: expect lots of kids.

Food-wise, I would say 3 to 3.5 stars. The grilled artichokes were kind of tasty, though the SO wasn't a fan of the thick outer layers that are hard to chew (just avoid those). The Involtini Di Melanzane (eggplant stuffed with spinach, ricotta cheese, and baked in tomato sauce with mozzarella) was delish. The pizza, which my partner really enjoyed, struck me as only middle-of-the-road by thin pie standards, but I will average it out.

Prices are decent and good wines are available. If you're looking for a simple, neighborhood Italian place, I will take Tre Giovani over the more touristy places west of here.

  6. Came here last night with my girlfriend to catch up after a tough month of nonstop deadlines at work.
We sat outside (after me kicking the owner, unknowingly…………sorry Reggie…. out of his table…. hahahaha I have some luck)
After doing some quick Math we decided if we were going to drink max 2 glasses of White Wine each we might as well buy the bottle since its more cost effective. we had the Franciscan/Sauvignon Blanc from California. It was good. Well balanced and crisp.
The server brought out a container of ice to have the bottle remain chilled and the owner Reggie made sure we were looked after the entire night.

Thank you Reggie, you are a gentleman and a scholar.

We will def be back again for another summer night and bottle of wine.

  7. I had oral surgery and ordered food from here (polenta, since that was the only thing I could eat really). When the delivery man arrived, he said, "Next time order more food. Too far for one order," and handed me my food. I was actually appalled by this. Not only did I meet the order minimum, but I live 2 avenues away –2!

I will never order from here again just for the bad service that made me extremely uncomfortable, especially when I was not doing well after surgery.

It is terrible that I can't order from here anymore, though, because the truffle polenta was actually delicious. I suggest the owners up the order minimum order amount if their staff feels this way, or politely ask their delivery men to not speak.

  8. I am already beating myself up for walking all the way to Pepe Rosso To Go for pasta the day before coming to Tre Giovani. Tre Giovani is truly a little gem that I think people still have yet to discover. It was practically empty during lunch time. They have reasonably priced items for the area and the portions are filling. I've always wanted to try pappardelle and got the pappardelle with veal ragout. It was really tasty and definitely my go-to pasta dish here. They don't skimp on the amount of pasta or the meat. The only critique I have is that the chef was a bit heavy handed on the salt. Service was prompt and friendly. I will be coming back for more pappardelle and try out new pasta dishes.
