YUM! This place rocks. Every time I've gotten food from here it tastes flavorful, is delicious, and just feels less greasy than other Mexican alternatives. Big thumbs up to this place and keep it up, cause they will keep coming. I recommend everything though particularly their tacos or quesadillas. Go, there, now.
Instead of going with Chipotle as usual, I decided to try this place. Got a bowl with mixed greens, chicken, squash, tomatillo salsa and guacamole. Squash and onions was an interesting addition and one I never would have thought to add on my own but it was really good. I love shredded chicken so was happy to get that; it was well seasoned, too. I also liked that the greens weren't just romaine lettuce but was a spinach mix instead. Everything tasted great and the staff was super friendly. They have a lot of options on the menu so I'll definitely be back to try more!
Tacos!!! I absolutely love tacos and Tres Carnes makes some great tacos. I decided upon bbq pork shoulder as my meat. The pork was cooked well and very flavorful. It had a kick to it and I liked the spices very well. Definitely some great bbq pork. I was able to add pico de gallo, onions, and cotija cheese. The taco was so great. Very flavorful. The entree comes with an order of also rice and beans. You can always omit the rice and just get the beans. That is what I did. The black beans were cooked well but lacked something. Not sure what. They were very plain and for black beans that already have flavor, it is somewhat impossible. Overall the meal was delish. Plus they had spanish music playing in the background. Very nice accompaniment to the meal and ambiance. I was dancing in my seat to some reggaeton. Ha. It was my second time and I will definitely not make it my last. I shall return to Tres Carnes.
It's so rare that I get to actually eat a hot lunch on my lunch hour, so when I stole the chance on a recent beautiful day, I picked this spot that I had walked by so many times. There's something a little comforting about Mexican food. You know there are going to be the familiar flavors of the corn tortilla or taco, the brightness from the onion, lime and cilantro and the smokey char on the meat, but that every place will be a little different. This was probably the best non-chain Mexican I've had in awhile. The meat was super tender and had that great hint of smokiness. I love their drink menu. Their peach sangria is perfect if you need a little something else to get you through your day. The street corn was a miss, as it didn't taste grilled, nor did it taste like there was any mayo in it, so skip it. A little pricey overall, but I think it's worth it. It's a great space for a summer afternoon, but it would be perfect if they would just turn the music down. Setting up the speaker right over the cashier really wasn't a well-thought out idea there. I will definitely be back, either in person or by phone.
This place was out of lettuce, it was out of cabbage it was out of limes, but it didn't matter; because this place had stupid BBQ brilliantly stuffed into a burrito.
You can't fake brisket and by all account this stuff is legit. Once I saw the staff in the back pullout a freshly smoked brisket with a healthy dark bark and that amazing aroma hit me, I knew I was in a good place.
This is no Chipotle knock off. It's a wonderful fast casual restaurant that offers a complete and satisfying meal for about $10-15. Mine was $13.50 but that was because I put juicy and tangy pulled pork and smokey succulent brisket in the same burrito – WORTH IT! Especially since this is NYC and the only Texas BBQ will be served in some upcharged novelty BS fashion.
This place doesn't aim to be a BBQ or Tex-Mex destination, but rather offer a convenient and great quality homage to the two cuisines that do not have a strong presence in Manhattan. I will be back. I hope they have lettuce next time.
I only wish they sold the meat on bread (tortas!) or just meat by the pound.
P.S. The raw radishes was a nice touch! Perfect with spicy sauces.
Hey! An upgraded Chipotle. The food here is, for the most part, tasty. Nice little ambiance they have going here. The chicken tacos weren't the best, but the other meats were good. In fact, of their three options, the taco seems to be the least worthy of the price. We'll go again if in the area and in the mood for Chipotle+.
I ordered the signature brisket burrito through UberEATS. While the brisket meat was drier than I would have liked, overall the burrito tasted like a BBQ-sauced twist on Chipotle. The portion size was comparable to Chipotle/Qdoba/Dos Toros. If you like getting burritos for lunch and are looking to mix it up, I would suggest trying Tres Carnes.
I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that I've been in here 3 days in a row… IN A ROW… the guy making my burrito knows me… we're like homies at this point.
Anyways, I'm a loyal customer, clearly. In my 3 visits, I've only tried dos of the tres carnes, but they were both damn good. Both the brisket and the pork shoulder are smoky and mad flavorful!
The beans (both versions) and the green rice are satisfying, as well. And I like that you have various salsas to choose from, from mild to spicy. As well as pickled onions, guac, cotilla cheese, creme, sliced radish and more to garnish your dish.
The finished product is glorious… And super filling. And anyone who gets an eyeful is surely going to become a convert, like me. I've turned 2 fashionistas already.
The service is friendly and fast. I may or may not be back tomorrow…
