  1. I walk into this dining room famished. This restaurant keeps the tradition and true spirit of what it means to be a trustee. They kindly seat me and serve me the tastiest, juiciest burger in NYC.

  2. Use the benefit of eating here if you contribute a certain amount when visiting the Met.  We had brunch on Saturday and they had a perfect table for us next to the window overlooking the park.  My coddled eggs were exactly like jello they describe in a cooking lesson with a yummy cheese polenta with mushrooms and vegs.  They also handled kids very well.

  3. What a treat! Similar to the National Arts Club, you can only get in if you're with a member (which I had the fortune of).

    Gourmet food at gourmet prices!

The Gruyere souffle was very good, but the crab cakes took the 'cake'…. literally.

Truly fine dining service and a once in a lifetime experience for a good ole boy from IowAy!

  4. Exclusivity on display!!

If you are either a supporting member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or are fortunate enough to have a member escort you in (guilty) you can have a meal in this beautiful, and yes– exclusive dining room.

Sunday brunch is terrific- a cocktail, an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert overlooking Central Park for $48.

I started with a delicious Bloody Mary. There were a few other cocktail choices offered, including a prosecco. Our three appetizers were a vegetable torte, a crab meat salad, and a potato pancake with smoked salmon appetizer.  Our three entrees were a Ham and cheese omelette, poached eggs with smoked salmon, and flatiron steak with cheese grits and poached egg.

I had the crab meat appetizer and the steak. The first dish was excellent -a nice portion of meaty crab salad, a refreshing cole slaw, and two crispy plantain strips. The steak was  delicious – tender and flavorful in a beef gravy with melt in your mouth cheese grits, a poached egg, and caramelized onions.

But wait- the desserts were even better!! We ordered three of the available desserts- a pineapple and coconut creme roll in chocolate sauce, chocolate cake with strawberries, and a key lime bar with chocolate and blackberries.

I went halfies on the first two and they were sinfully good.

Service was professional, efficient, courteous and friendly. The room is beautiful. The ambiance is wonderful. The whole experience was wonderful.

  5. We ate here a few years ago with another couple who invited us.  The couple's grandparents were bigwigs or something.  I dunno.

It was not stuffy but the food was just ordinary.  I remember our hosts ordered some corned beef hash.  It looked like it came out of a can.

So, why am I giving it four stars?  Well, it is mad exclusive.  In a city of millions, there are only three prior reviews on here.  I am not an elitist/snob but it feels special sometimes to frequent private establishments that screen out the hoi polloi/plebeians.  Kind of like flying in first class (international, not domestic).
