  1. Tryon Public House is a bar/ restaurant close to Cloisters museum. Take the A train to Dyckman Street and its across the street.

We had gone to the Cloisters museum in the park so we were hot and tired. They were the closest restaurant when we got out of the park, so we went in.

We came here for drinks. I got a Crabbies ginger ($7 I think) beer and my friend got a Moscow mule. There was a table next to us that ordered a smores dessert (crispy marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate). It looked so good!

The place is big, and we easily got a table next to the windows. Good place for people watching. We admired some kids that were doing cool bike tricks.

  2. Tryon Public is a great establishment to have in the area, and the place LOOKS amazing with multiple types of seating, a ton of space, and something like a dozen TVs of varying size to watch games from all corner of the room. The food is also dyno-mite (to quote Jimmie "JJ" Walker or is it JJ "Jimmie" Walker? Guy has been off TV for so long, I don't remember)
Lobster Mac and Cheese is first rate along with the chili nachos and the burger. I don't drink, but people who do tell me the selection here is tops.

Why am I docking a star? Some of the comments here about brusque service ring true to me as well, and I'm not a particularly sensitive guy. Also as a sports fan who goes to a lot of sports bars, here are some things that I think could be improved:

    1) at the actual bar, the voltage in the bulbs from the dangling lamps is way too high. This is distracting when watching the TV, but beyond that, it's actually not ophthalmologically wise thing to do, either, since you shouldn't look at bright late for a long time. I was surprised at how annoying this was, and I ended up having to view another TV from sub-optimal angle as a result.

    2) if you have a ton of TVs because you want to say you're a sports bar, then WHEN THERE IS A LEAGUE FINALS (and ONLY), I think it's a good idea to move regularly scheduled "Trivia Night" to some other day, just temporarily. In-game audio really separates the superb sports bars from the "great" or "good" ones. Having that compromised for loud quizzes about who starred in Showboat is just lamentable. That's not counting the cheesy music. Sorry, but I want to hear Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen. Only silver lining to trivia night simultaneity is not having to hear Mark Jackson's inane 'signature' lines like "Hand down, man down!" and "Get Iggy with it!" (reference to Andre Igoudala's penchant for crafty plays that really deserve a better celebratory phrase.)

These aside, this is a fantastic place to have in Inwood, and I plan on coming back here regularly.

  3. This place opened about a year ago. It's right off the A train which is pretty convinient. My friends were all excited about the craft beer here – they say it's good, I'm not a beer person so I cant say much on that front.

Here's the thing with this place, is almost on Dyckman, but the crowd is a lot more laid back and less crazy – which is a nice change of pace on weekends. No hookah here (I'm not a fan) which is a plus. Lots of TV screens and they play plenty of football games.

The food is typical bar fare (burgers, sandwiches) but good quality. Lots of tables to sit at and the bar area has plenty of space.

Great addition to the neighborhood, looking forward to coming back.

  4. This spot is a nice chill bar up in dyckman. it is a few steps from the A train and maybe a 10 min walk to the 1 Line. the bartender sophia? i think was here name was very awesome and was quick with the orders and no waiting really. I Ran a 5k that day and we saw some other runing groups atten the bar as well and we all mingled and the vibe was cool. the bathroom is clean not bad waiting area is not bad.. the fries are yum i need to try that again.

On sunday they ahve a19 dllar Unlimited mimosa i think i read which is a good deal. Usually when i am uptown visiting a friend we come and check this bar out.. by the way i saw kids in this bar too so it is kid friendly to bring your little ones.

  5. We were craving some burgers, and since this place had just that, we decided to give them a try for weekend brunch. It was not too crowded, and we were seated pretty quickly. It was a nice space, large and open. The openness can be both good and bad. It can allow natural lights from outside to reach every corner of the restaurant, but at the same time, sounds and noise can do the same. The noise level was very high, it was extremely loud in there. The music was blasting out, and people trying to talk over the music, not a good combination.

I ordered the Fort Tryon Red Eye Burger, which comes with one complimentary drink of your choice. When I put in the order, I heard the waitress say "how would you like egg cooked?" I was surprised since I thought it was predetermined, but I still answered and said "sunny side up."  She raised her eyebrows, almost rolling her eyes, and said "no, the burger" in a smug way. I guess she said "how would you like IT [the burger] cooked" but the music was so loud I couldn't really here her every ward. And then the attitude? Well, it didn't end there. The Brunch menu comes with one complimentary drink of your choice, but she didn't say a word about it, so we had to ask for it. I asked for a hot tea, thinking that she will then proceed to tell me what kinds of tea selections they have, but she just said "ok" and walked away. I was starting to regret entering this place.

When she returned with our drinks, she brought a coffee for my husband, and a hot water with lemon for me. She realized she forgot the actual tea bag, so she laughed it off and came back with Lipton Black Tea. I am not sure if this is the only tea they have, since she never graced me with the information.

They got one of the orders wrong, so I had to send it back. The waitress never really came to check on us, even with just one of us having a food while waiting for the correct order to be brought out. She never came back to refill our water, coffee, or tea.

The food was really good, but horrible service ruined the experience. Read my full review of the restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

  6. Had a great time here last Saturday night after a birthday party at Height Tavern a little further South in the Heights. We got here just in time to catch the UFC fight and they seated us almost right away. Don't worry about being able to see here. There are TVs strategically placed around the venue so your view will be great no matter where you are sitting.
    In terms of food,
    The Loaded Nachos looked good
The Guac is Solid (NICE amount with a touch of spice to keep it interesting) Also they dont overload you with a tray of chip either.

The bartenders are nice and polite even at 1am never make you feel ignored or make you work for their attention.

The bathrooms are always clean and individually sized.

The patrons there are super nice and not sketchy!

The location is ideal. Basically in the heart of Dykman without having to be on the general street with all the other party goers. Also the train is situated right at the corner.

Only Bummer is that the A train is now under construction. A detail that I forgot trying to get back downtown at 2:30am. For easy access, apparently there is some sort of shuttle bus but we hoped into a cab and took it to my friend's place in the 160s so that I could take the train which starts its journey at 168th!

Oh and apparently this was a hot spot for Pokemon GO on Saturday night! Gotta Catch'em All!

  7. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I stop by. This is a solid pub, whether you're there for a bite or drinks or both. Each time I've gone the service has been great and the food/drinks were yum.
They also host cards against humanity night and I think trivia. Its a great spot, if you're debating go check it out.

  8. I could have sworn I reviewed this place after my friends and I went here.  We were in the neightborhood scoping out potential locations for our beer group to meet (and we found a great one, check my other reviews of places in Inwood) and this was our last stop.

We were greeted and seated promptly.  The beer list was okay, some nice stuff but nothing too unusual.  That was fine.  We were hungry so we wanted some snacks as well.  It seemed promising until we got an incredibly rude and disengaged server.  She was openly hostile from the first time she came to us and raised her eyebrows, which I assume meant she wanted us to order.  I have to assume since she didn't say anything like "Welcome to Tryon Public House" or "Hi guys, what would you like?".  Nope, it was just a raise of the eyebrows.   Okay, that's fine.

We got our beers and put in an order for food.  I liked the fried pickles a lot and my friend who had a veggie burger said it was okay.  They were supposedly house made so he thought it might be a bit better, but it was fine.   When we ordered a second round of beers we got more attitude, spilled beers (which we had to clean up since our waitress couldn't even) and we got to help bus the table since she was obviously not moving any empty glasses.  So we complied in order to receive the new beers.

The food was okay (great pickles) and the beer was fine, but I don't need to pay money to have someone take their bad day out on me.  There are some fun and nice places up here that actually are happy when you spend your money so I'll go to those.
