“I always either order the vegetarian burrito or the enchiladas suizas (which are devine).”
“Four for the Cemitas and the rarer offerings — pipian, etc. which compete with and often eclipse far fancier places like Rosa Mexicano.”
“This is a no-frills, authentic place — don't bring your date if you're looking for romantic mood lighting and a mariachi band to serenade you.”

Ive had both their breakfast burrito and a chicken burrito.
The ingredients are all fresh and tasty but they are very heavy on the rice.
Stopped in for enchiladas with mole and guacamole (extra spicy). A good find in the neighborhood. Def need to try more! Staff is incredibly kind and there's a ton of sweets and snacks too.
Tacos here are authentic, but average. Mole is disappointing. I'd give it 2.5 if I could. We went here about 4 years ago and left shrugging our shoulders and said that it wasn't a place that we'd ever seek out. 4 years later, we ended up here again purely out of convenience and left feeling the exact same way we did the first time around. It's not bad, not but it's not good — it's mediocre, at best.
A nice find in the neighborhood for Mexican food. Nice char on tender meat. It's a good substitute if you don't want to trek up to Spanish Harlem.
I stopped in with a friend to grab lunch recently and tried their Al Pastor plate. The meat was very dry and relatively flavorless, which was really kind of sad. The beans and rice were strictly average, and the guacamole was neon green and was definitely not fresh or of very high quality. The fact that they charge nearly $6 for a small basket of tortilla chips and a small bowl of salsa was also an outrage.
The only highlight was our server, who was very sweet. Now if I could just get the "rock" feeling out of my stomach.
**NOTE: CASH ONLY!!**
Excellent fresh guacamole, I thought it needed a bit more salt, but it was still good.
I also had their bistec encebollado, which is steak with onions and it was very very good. The food here is pretty authentic. The prices are super reasonable too.
One thing to keep in mind, they only accept cash.
Favorite Mexican restaurant in town! Guacamole was fresh and had a nice kick to it. Make sure you ask them for spicy in the guac. Sandwiches are filling and delicious. Mexican sausages + avocado are a heavenly pair.
I came here with my Boo Boo to fuel up for lunch before our walk to the High Line park. We were seated on a smaller table even though we had our jackets, back pack, and purse. It was pretty cramped but didn't complain about it. We just didn't order appetizers then.
I ordered the marinated pork enchilada and Boo Boo got the burrito without guac and wanted the beans of the side. But, they exacted their revenge by charging us the side of beans. The food tasted good and they came out fast and hot. The horchata was not too sweet and didn't settle in the bottom like many bad rice milk does.
Wish they also have tomatillo salsa.
Too bad it's cash only.
But, I'd come back to try the tacos and mole next time.
