  1. Really glad I finally tried this place. If you're looking for a quick hot tofu flower soup on the go, I would get it here. The tofu texture is bean-y and still smooth. Not like some of the places where it's all gelatin. It's not a bad price for a small at $1.50. Perfect for your budget and on the run. Can't beat that it's fairly close to the subway.

  2. When I was a little kid, my dad would buy douhua, and I still find this warm, sweet pudding one of the most comforting foods in the world. Tung Woo Co is literally a hole in the wall, and it's near and dear to me.

It's a no frills, straightforward kind of comfort meal that nevertheless manages to be absolutely perfect for me: soft tofu that gently breaks into warm silky glaciers when you poke it with your spoon, and a gingery simple syrup that makes every spoonful sweet. It does not have dairy or gelatin in it and it is basically fresh all the time (they sell til they run out).

The service at this stand is always incredibly efficient though not exactly friendly — to me, that's part of the ambiance. I can't tell you how many times I've made the walk down here from the village in the morning to point at the large, steaming pot of soft tofu and fork over six quarters to the woman at the table to get a small dou hua (a plenty large breakfast for me, by the way) and eat it in quiet contemplation on my walk back uptown. It's $1.50 that gives me real peace of mind.

  3. Great value for fresh tofu, noodles and soy milk of all sorts.

The store is a hole-in-the-wall, no frills, lo-tech space, translating to excellent value for your dollar! There is a line-up of 10+ people at any given time!

    Tips:
    Cash only.
    The tofu-fa sells out quickly!

  4. SOY MAKING MASTER.. i heard they made really good tofu but i came for the soy milk to go along w/ my pineapple bun from Double Crispy bakery

—JUST 75 cents for a small single serving carton of sweetened COLD soy milk mmmm!

Tung Woo & Double Crispy right next door to each other? dangerous combo!

  5. Cash only, fresh soymilk / tofu stand. That's all they really sell… and they make it every day. Really authentic and superbly tasty. Love the tofuhua sweet.. buy it and take it home to chill and pour the honey on. Tasty!

  6. What better way to reminisce about street food than finding a small hole in the wall serving freshly made tofu!

One small cup will set you back at $1.50 and a large cup at $2.00, if you're not stuffed, I advise on the large because you'll want more!

The tofu pudding has a wonderful firmness while reatining its silkiness. You get it warm and pour simple sugar in. It comes in a nice plastic container for easy eating and snacking..

    Definitely coming back!!

  7. Ah, so refreshing in the summer to grab a soy milk here to go! They have no seating (just a little stand). Only $1 for a bottle. The soy milk is slightly sweet and tastes much better than the packaged kind from the supermarket. Not sure if they offer any unsweetened soy milk, though.

  8. Amazing hole in the wall spot in the middle of Chinatown.

I was on a dire search for some herbal tea to cure my "hot air" (the imbalance of hot/cold in your body). $1 for a single serving and $3 for the half gallon.

I love their sweet silken tofu also! A great afternoon pick-me-upper on those long work days.
