  1. A solid choice but nothing to write home about (sorry Mom!)

Got my usual suspects of entree/app choices and everything was fine but lacked that real flavor to put it over the top.

Nothing bad to say though, worth it if you're in the mood for Thai.

BYOB like most places in town.

  2. SO incredibly good!

We get take out at least 1x a week.  Very authentic Thai with healthy portions.

Even the Thai coffee is yum!

  3. Went here for the 10th time the other day.  I was hosting an academic friend from the UK.  We brought some wine, and we did not have reservations.  It was a Thursday evening, and the restaurant scene was busy downtown.  The place filled up an hour after we arrived, but we were never pressured to vacate.  We lingered over our meals and eventually dessert.  The decor in this place looks to be about 25 years old, and it could use an upgrade.  However, the atmosphere was nice and quiet.  If you want to have a long conversation with a friend you have not seen in some time, this is your place.  I eat Thai all the time in Manhattan, and this place measures up well.  My friend, who I found was a vegetarian, was especially pleased with his meal.

  4. First thing i noticed was the vegetarian menu.  I came here with my cousins for a welcome back dinner.  They nicely accommodated our party at the back.  We ordered and food was served within about 15 to 20 minutes or so.  The bf and i particularly enjoyed the shrimp pad kee mao.  I've had this dish at other thai places and it was never memorable until now.  I also tried the yum talay calamari from my cousin and it was delicous.  You can't have thai without some tom yum soup.  I chose medium spiciness and it was just right.  Everyone left feeling full and satisfied.

  5. Have been to this restaurant a handful of times and the food and service never disappoint.  The place is intimate with pretty decor. A nice quiet place for a  date or for a small group of friends to enjoy a meal.  I love that they have a vegetarian menu in addition to their regular menu.  I often order their pad thai noodles with tofu and it is always tasty. They have many seafood dishes as well and good soups and appetizers. Favorite thing: Their sweet Thai iced coffee!  And you can customize how spicy you would like your dish. Pleasant place for lunch or dinner and I hear they now have a buffet during the week.

  6. Came here with a group and got chicken pad Thai once and pad see ew another time. This place is definitely more aesthetic than the other Thai restaurants in the area, with nicer seating and plates that make it fit for a special occasion. As other reviewers have mentioned, they put the food in the middle of the table but when I went with friends, we just mostly got food from our own dishes with some sharing.

  7. I think I found my Thai place on Bloomfield Ave!

    Why?

    1. DECOR. It's the most authentically decorated Thai restaurant on the street. Others may dispute and say that others are going for a "modern feel", but in comparison the other Thai places on the street, Tuptim is far more successfully executed. The table clothes, the bamboo room divider, the wooden walls, the metal artwork – it's all thumbs up to me.

    2. The food is SERVED family style. What I disliked about one particular place down the road (Spice II)  was that everything was served as an entree per individual. Asian food is always served family style, no if and or buts. Tuptim did right in my book with our food placed right in the middle with serving utensils.

    3. The VALUE cannot be beat at Tuptim. Two entrees, a soda, and a dessert all under $50 including tax is great in my book! One entree was the DEEP FRIED WHOLE FLOUNDER (head and tail on) and it was only $21! Other places usually charge you $23 – $28 or label it as "Market Price" on the menu. Nosiree here. And their dessert portion? HUGE. We ended up sharing Fried Banana w/ Ice Cream; the banana pieces were wrapped up with egg roll wrappers all fancy, the scoop of coconut ice cream, which by the way was our choice ( we had 4 or 5 flavors to choose from), was a decent size, and topped off with whipped cream. Perfect ratio of fried goodness to creamy ice cream.  I would totally eat it again.

    4. The 90's boy band Pandora playlist! O-Town, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC…uhh, what's not to love? I was grooving in my seat like I was reliving my tween years!

What would honestly bump them up to 5.0 stars?
    1. Thai Iced Tea flavored Ice Cream
    2. A little more chicken in the Red Curry entree
    3. Maybe a different whole fish priced at MP? Flounder is not really meaty.

  8. Although I'm not big on celebrating Valentine's Day, my girlfriend insisted on taking me out for dinner that night. After a brief stroll on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, we chose Tuptim Thai since it wasn't crowded.

The place is clean, but some of the décor leaned on the tacky side. Some of the bulbs of their track lighting aimed too low, so depending on where you sat, you might have that interrogation light right in your face! I was one of those lucky people, but they were cool about us switching seats.

Their prices leaned on the higher side of Thai, but that's expected for this block. My GF ordered the Pad Kee Mao, while I ordered one of their specials: Just Noodle. I am a huge Noodle Whore! This "Just Noodle" dish included three of their featured noodle dishes: Shrimp Pad Thai, Chicken Pad Kee Mao, and this other rice noodle cooked in garlic sauce topped with chicken. I was super excited about this carb-ful order, but it wasn't all that great. The presentation was fine and I love having three noodle dishes on one plate, but if I were to review each item individually, I have to say they were all mediocre and somewhat bland.

The service was good and their staff was awesome. The food just doesn't suit my taste.
