On a late Monday night, the host was kind enough to sit us just and warn us the kitchen would be closing soon.
He was very hospitable and helped our meal along smoothly.
My girlfriend and I tried the soy & garlic chicken combo (drums and wings) plus a spicy pork platter appetizer.
The spicy pork appetizer is served on a small hot plate, or pan rather. It has slices of spicy pork that has just enough heat yet doesn't overwhelm the rest of the flavor. It comes with bits of cabbage, carrot, and scallion and altogether has a sweet, slightly salty taste. Overall, it's a nice small appetizer that would be appropriate for 1-2 persons.
The soy & garlic chicken was pretty good. Although I haven't anywhere that serves chicken that is so extraordinary that distinguishes it from the rest, it's safe to say the chicken here is still very satisfying. It's fried to a good crisp texture on the outside and a very soft juicy tender inside. The sauce is neither too sweet nor salty and isn't drowning the chicken either. On a side note, it comes with a small cup of salted and pickled radish.
Overall, this place is still worth a try; it was a very satisfactory experience. I'm eager to try what else this place has to offer.
Back here for the third time! It's that good!
You can see that everything is made out of love and the taste shows that! All you need to order is the bomb soy garlic wings and sangria and you're good to go! I had to order a pitcher of sangria because it's that good! I would say that the pitcher serves three people. I believe a glass of sangria was around $7, whereas a pitcher was $17. So if you're with a group of people, order the pitcher to get the most bang out of your buck!
Compliments to the turntable crew for making each time a great experience!
i prefer this location over the ktown one; there's more seating, the staff is super friendly, and i just like their menu options more. the first time i came with friends and we got the soju sampler which was awesome since we got to try a bunch of the different flavors. the kimchi fried rice with pork belly is amazing but a tad overpriced for the amount you get. it's super rich with the pork fat and the runny fried egg and the perfect amount of spiciness. unfortunately there was a super long wait the second time i came (almost an hour if not longer) because there was a birthday party. we decided to just wait because we were tired of walking around and it was cold. in addition to wings (pretty standard korean fried chicken) we got the chicken cheese balls. they were all right but i kind of got sick of them towards the end. i think they were a bit too herby.
Was expecting it to be super busy on a Friday night but fortunately there were seats. We were greeted with a warm smile. I love restaurants that make you feel welcomed!
We started with a free shot of lychee soju with your check-in on yelp ^_^ It was delicious!
For appetizers we got the grilled corn, which was not bad, tasted like those mexican corns with all the cheese and seasonings as well as the twister which was pretty good because of the sauce. It tasted like potato chips with a chipotle mayo/spicy mayo type sauce.
We ordered the kimchi fried rice and the bulgogi pizza. The kimchi fried rice was so small, we all thought it was going to be bigger than it actually was and the bulgogi pizza was meh, I wouldn't recommend it. Of course, we got the soy garlic wings and they were so yummy!! I think it was one of the best Korean chicken wings I've ever eaten. I'd definitely come back for those wings!
The service was great too because our waiter was so smiley and gave off nice vibes. He answered all our questions, gave us his recommendations and even chatted a little, which is always nice.
Tonight, my friends and I were enjoying happy hour in the East Village and were looking for a good meal before returning home. I had heard good things about Turntable 5060 from a few colleagues and convinced my friends to check it out with me. So what was the verdict? Well, all in all, it was okay, but, sadly, it was far from awesome. Continue reading below for the deets.
To start, we ordered a few appetizers that we had read about from other Yelpers. Our mouths were watering at that point; however, all the items arrived lukewarm (cheese sticks and calamari) and some of them seemed like nothing more than just ready-made frozen food (cheese sticks). Finally, the wings appetizer–what I was looking forward to the most–was utterly lackluster. From all the accolades on Yelp, I was expecting to be blown away by the wings. Instead, they were just meh. The only appetizer to live up to the hype was the Twister (a fried whole potato that is sliced and twister onto a stick). Try this if you visit Turntable; it will not disappoint.
As for entrées, they were also just okay. My BF, Tony, and I both ordered burgers recommended by the waitress and were surprised and disappointed that both were really just sliced meat sandwiches and not burgers–e.g., the Spicy Pork "Burger" and Bulgari "Burger." Sure, the sliced meat on both of these was okay, but the bread overpowered the meat and stuck out as the primary taste. We were definitely disappointed. Fortunately, one of our dining companions did order the Turntable Burger, which was a traditional ground meat burger…. and he thought it was good. God, I wish I had ordered his burger because I was definitely not expected sliced meat overpowered by bread when I placed my order. My 2 cents = please re-classify the aforementioned entrées as "sandwiches"–they are NOT "burgers."
Even though most of the night was a disappointment, there were a few highlights. These included the drinks (Turntable featured some tasty, reasonably priced draft beers and sangria), the cool restaurant interior (especially the amazing vintage reel-to-reel "album" cases displayed behind plexiglass in the bathroom), and the friendly service. Sadly, however, these items did not make up for the overall lackluster experience we had at Turntable.
The food here is solid and definitely worth a try. The atmosphere is pleasant and great for catching up with friends. The music is not overbearly loud and the restaurant is spacious, relaxing and inviting. There's also a happy hour special, and if you check into yelp, you get a free lychee soju shot. What's not to love?!
Wings- We had the half&half soy garlic and hot & spicy wings. Both were great! The skin was thinly fried and the wings weren't too dry. If you are a fan of spicy food, definitely try the hot&spicy ones. They really give you a kick!
Fried Calamari- There were a bit too fried for my liking. There were two dipping sauces paired with the calamari: spicy tomato and spicy mayo. Personally, the calamari wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad.
Bulgogi- The marinated beef was perfect. It came in a pretty big portion size, but I would not order this alone, I would suggest pairing this with a side of fried rice.
Kimchi Fried Rice- Not spectacular but great if you are into spicy food.
Lychee Soju Shot- Sweet, fruity and yummy!
It's really odd how they opened a Korean fried chicken restaurant in this area. Nevertheless the waiters and staffs are very welcoming and friendly. Their chicken taste fresh and juicy inside, however, they need a little more coating on the sauce. The crunch level is 8/10, it could be crunchier. The skin does have a slight chewed to it. But still deliciously good.
I went here on a double date and i really liked that they seated our party even though not everyone was present. Why is it a thing in NYC for the entire party to be present?!
The moment we walked in, we saw the beer tower that lit up and had to get it. Asians have a thing about shiny bright lights. When we got our beer, it was a big thing full of dry ice and swirled in many different pretty colors. But 10 minutes later, our light died! Several servers came over to fix it, but didn't work. I appreciated the effort though.
We ordered the chicken wings (soy garlic because no one at my table liked spicy..smh), twister and kimchi fried rice. I liked everything except the kimchi fried rice. It wasn't bad, just nothing special.
20 pieces for 4 people was surprisingly a lot of food. Along with the beer, I was stuffed by the end of the meal. The servers also weren't pushy on getting us to leave. Love this place, will definitely come back.
