  1. THE NEWMAN, THE BIRD, THE DUDE… Their pizza is not your run of the mill pizza.  ask for pesto sauce on top!

  2. A relic of my childhood, visiting an aunt on the Upper East Side, I used to love Two Boots! As a child, I wasn't interested in any other sort of pizza than a slice of cheese. My tastes have matured, ever so slightly, and sometimes, I crave a slice that boasts a photo of Steve Buscemi next to its ingredients list.

I appreciate this place being open late on weekend evenings, as I also enjoy a simple slice of Grandma Bess after being out a little bit too late. It's fun to sit beneath the colorful strings of lights, munch on a slice, and watch ridiculously drunken bros stumble to and fro on 2nd Avenue.

It's a solid and reliable pizza place.

  3. Good pizza but everything had been sitting out for who knows how long.

Dish rags hanging out on counter next to salt, crushed pepper shakers and tables not clean despite me bring the only customer inside.

Not the same experience I had when I visited a lower east side location.

  4. Never actually been inside this restaurant, I always order to have delivered to my apartment. Their whole wheat crust is the best around. Whole pies are on the expensive side but the toppings are plentiful and fresh.

As a general tip when ordering for delivery, always order BEFORE you are starving to death. Made-to-order specialty pizza takes time. I probably wait around 45 min for my pizza every time I order (I live about 5 blocks away) and thats fine with me! If you place an order when your stomach is already eating itself, you'll never be happy with delivery 😉

  5. I never had Two Boots before so this was a first for me. The pizza place has this hippy vibe to it, it's a small place but the perk is that they are open late. The pizza has a different feel to it than other places, I think they use cornmeal for the base of the pies. The dough for me was just OK, I didn't love it nor did I hate it.

    The food:

Tony Clifton- Shitake mushrooms, vidalla onions sweet red pepper pesto & mozzarella. I thought the toppings were solid. The sweetness from the vidalla onions was a nice complement to the mushrooms. The dough I was not impressed with.

Cleopatra Jones- sweet Italian sausage, roasted peppers, onions, garlic & mozzarella. On paper, it sounds fantastic, the slice itself was just OK. The toppings don't really have any sense of cohesion.

The Sicilian- Galbhani premium whole milk mozzarella & piquant sauce on a Sicilian crust. Who the hell makes a triangular Sicilian??? It's unheard! The slice was subpar, it really didn't have a lot to offer in terms of taste or texture. It really reminded me of Ellio's pizza.

  6. I was craving pizza so I thought I would look up a reputable pizza joint. Having eaten the two boots locations in Grand Central and on Bleecker Street, I thought that this franchise in the Upper East Side might also be of the same quality. I was wrong.

I came in around 1 p.m. on a weekday and was surprised to find it very empty. There was one person sitting down and she ate her food already. I ordered one slice of the Cleopatra, which has red onions sausage cheese etc. I sat down and waited for my pizza. At least 3 to 4 minutes later, I realized that the staff has gone on to do something else and that I was still waiting for my pizza. I walk over to the counter and the guy looked at me and said,  yes can I help you?  I said yes, I am waiting for my pizza. He said oh sorry about that. I said that's ok. Except it really is not, my pizza was almost burned. I was hungry so I ate it but there was no flavor. I am disappointed by this location, it does not uphold the same quality and taste other locations present under the Two Boots name. Also, someone was drilling on the table RIGHT NEXT TO THE PIZZA. Who wants nasty dust or who-knows-what flying into the food. UGH.

    I will not come back.

  7. Their decor is pretty awful but I guess it gives the place character. I've been here a few times and had regular cheese pizza, as well as the one with spinach, artichoke, and scallions (don't remember the name), which is AMAZING. The cheese one never fails to disappoint, though. Prices are average for a pizzeria. Crust is pretty thin on all pies and crunchy! Their cookies are only a dollar and are pretty good, as are their garlic knots! A nice neighborhood place. They have lots of variety and pretty unique combinations of toppings, as well as a ton of sandwiches and salads, but I haven't tried any of them before! Apparently they have a vegan and gluten free option too which I'm sure is helpful for a lot of customers!

  8. I was recently told that pizza was never intended to have "junk" on it by a wise old italian woman.  I'm sure she would be appalled by the offerings here.

My favorites are the Tony Clifton and Big Bird(with buffalo chicken). I really want to love the big maybelle just because of the name, but just don't. Their crust is covered in semolina which makes it unique but I can see it being a turn off if it is not expected.
