Not a bad concept. Very interesting to say the least. However, I think I'll stick to the regular sushi rolls where I get a variety to rolls to eat in one sitting. This is probably something in my opinion everyone should try once in their lifetime just to experience it to say they had one.
The sushi burrito was definitely worth the experience, but everything else wasn't.
SLOW service. Obviously it takes some time to put these together, so why are there only 2 people assembling and 3 standing at the register? I will say the guy who was on the line was great, but everyone else just wasn't having it.
The busboy did a great job of making sure the place stayed clean, but it's a very small space that gets cramped almost immediately.
All of that being said, I did the "create your own" with salmon, crab, & avocado lime dressing & it was pretty freaking incredible. So, go for the life experience I suppose? Either way, I probably won't be back unless I'm DYING for a sushi burrito.
This Sushi Burrito Is amazing and Really Impressed!
I went in here about an hour before closing on Friday on my walk to the subway and saw sushi burrito and needed to try this. When i got inside it look like your typical fast casual restaurant style but has a very cool piece of artwork the size of the wall. The guy at the counter was really nice in explaining to me the different types of Sushi Burritos people get and the best options to put inside for what I like.
In the end I got a white rice, Atlantic salmon, tobanjan mayo (spicy mayo), carrot and daikon pickled, cucumber, and tempura crunch.
It was extremely delicious and flavorful and hit the spot perfectly and because I checked in on the Yelp App I got a free ginger green tea which was extremely fresh and refreshing.
In short:
– Delicious sushi burrito
– Great service
I'm still a fan of the food here, but wanted to post a review of the DELIVERY service – which I ordered on Seamless, but then seems to be delivered by Uber Eats by some weird connection. Hence the four stars – I love the food. However, my rating of the DELIVERY is 2 stars. The food took the time they said it would, but the driver called me and refused to come up to the 8th floor where I work. Instead, he said I had to come down to the lobby. Realize this is a small thing, but it's SUPER annoying to have to stop my day and go down and get the food, when ALL deliveries are allowed in my building, and the whole reason I ordered is because I didn't have time to go outside and get it. POOR service.
After visited Pokeworks, I was kind of interested in visiting some of the other sushiritto places in New York. I had heard somewhere that Uma Temakeria was actually the original sushiritto place in New York, so I figured that I would go check it out.
First of all, Temakeria is in a pretty inconvenient location. It's over on 7th avenue, which may not sound very far away, but compared to Pokeworks' prime location, I feel it just doesn't stack up. Most people who are down near 14th street (the cross street) are usually over at union square; given the fact that there are already lots of dining options around in Union, I can't see any reason why someone would want to walk all the way over to 7th avenue just to get one of these. The store is also kind of on the small side. If you're looking to sit down here, you could get lucky because there are a few tables (definitely more than Pokeworks), but you'll have to see how crowded the place is.
The system for ordering is also fairly straight forward: they have a menu up top, and you can choose from bowls, burritos or hand rolls. Personally, I felt like the layout was a little bit lacking. I obviously chose the burrito since that's what I came here for. They are a little bit slow with putting your order together, not as efficient as they are at pokeworks.
The food itself is alright. The burrito I got here was the same price, $11, as it was at Poke, but definitely smaller. The quality of the food also wasn't as high, nor was the customizability of the thing. I liked the crunchy filling that you can put in your burrito, but there wasn't anything amazing about the thing. All in all, it really is just large sushi.
To conclude, it was an alright experience, but unless you're over on the westside, it doesn't really make sense to walk all the way over here just to have a pretty average sushi burrito in a restaurant/take out place with unremarkable ambiance.
Really wanted to try this out given the high reviews and good pics on Yelp. So I ordered through seamless for lunch. The lunch bowl priced at $14 is so tiny in size and little meat inside!! It's smaller than an appetizer tuna Tatar in a regular restaurant yet misleadingly named as a bowl for lunch option. (Attached the photo of the bowl compared to a CD disk).
Very disappointed with the quantity with the price charged. It's so over priced…
Not great, Bob.
Was quite hesitant to try this place given the reviews, but gave in due to Steph M.'s near insatiable sushi cravings. Oy. Ordered the uma-rrito, which was salmon, tuna, vegetables, tempura crunch, and tobanjan mayo. The salmon and tuna were both on the mushier side, like when fish has been oversaturated with water. The vegetables and rice were fine, but the fish really makes or breaks the texture. Managed to struggle through it with some low sodium soy sauce, but I found it to be a a pretty bad use of $10+tax. I'd rather risk the e. coli and get Chipotle.
Also, as we sat down, we realized the tables they had were separated at the top, but connected at the base, which was mind-boggling. This meant that a table meant for 4 people couldn't be separated into two, although there was the illusion that they could be separated into 2 smaller tables. That was legitimately strange. Not good for seating people in groups of 2.
Service was fine, although my server seemed to care more about speed than craft, which would have been appreciated if there had been anyone else in line, but there wasn't. Prices are sort of steep for what they give you. $10 for an over-sized sushi roll? And even more for a small chirashi bowl? Hmmm.
As a huge fan of All'onda and Chris Jaeckle in general, it was just a fairly disappointing experience. The value and quality aren't quite there, and it just wasn't a very pleasant time. I would opt for just a normal sushi shop or restaurant before coming here.
We had this delivered for lunch at work, and I was so excited to try NYC's version of sushirrito – with the option of customization!
I got a kale salad and built my own sushi burrito with tuna, salmon, seaweed salad, cucumber, tobiko and avocado. There was so much potential for this to be the best meal ever, but the sushi rice was hard, the overall texture of everything was a little bit off. The reason why I'm giving this 2 stars is because the $4 kale side salad should be more than 3 bites, but alas it was not.
