Came for a friend's birthday. The staff were so helpful and accommodating to help us pull off the surprise party. Food was top notch. Not see they are used to Serving a group of 20 people all at the same time but drinks and food were spot on. I do t think there were any errors, and all the plates were finished clean. I am looking forward to coming back here for a casual night.
Also have to make a point that they have a great selection of naruto rolls (rolled in cucumber). What a delight to find .
What a nice local place for good Japanese food. We came for lunch and had two bento boxes – one chicken teriyaki and one shrimp and vegetable tempura – priced under $10! Miso soup, rice, salad, 3 pieces of California roll – that's a lot of food there and tasty.
Would definitely come back again!
On hangover days or days I just don't feel like budging, ordering sushi on Seamless is my usual plan for lunch. Colleague suggested we order from Umi today, which is actually named Dai Hachi on Seamless (weird).
They had the usual lunch deal of 2 or 3 roll specials. The three of us ordered: one chirashi (you can choose sushi rice, white rice or brown rice.. um. why even list white rice there?) and two 3 roll specials. We each got the complimentary salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. No complaints here – in fact, Umi has now been added to our lunch rotation list. The only pet peeve I had was the brightness of the spicy tuna – as someone put it, it looked "radioactive." Pay a $1 for spicy mayo if you're getting the rolls.
Pretty good sushi spot if you're looking to have a casual dinner!
We got the following:
1. Rock Shrimp appetizer ($8) – this was really great! Definitely the highlight of my dinner
2. A bunch of sushi rolls – spicy crunchy white tuna, spicy crunchy salmon, black pepper tuna, spicy crawfish – these were all $6+ (which is a little higher than avg), but they were all very good!
For dessert, we got the tempura green tea ice cream, which was good, but it took nearly 15 minutes for our order to arrive and by the time it did, the tempura wasn't crispy and hot anymore! Despite that, it wasn't so bad.
Our waiter was very attentive and checked up on us quite a few times to make sure we were okay, which I appreciated. Prices here are a little higher than standard sushi places, but still, it's a good spot to check out in the area if you're craving sushi!
Oh man oh man. This place is delicious ! My friend just moved in down the block from this place and I couldn't be happier !!
Ordered a miso soup, Rock "N" Roll, and a Philadelphia roll. That Rock "N" roll was one of the best rolls of sushi I've had. Listen to this y'all ! Tempura shrimp, kani, avocado, cream cheese, deep fried w. special sauce. Oh man this is heaven. The gates opened up and gave me the best sushi roll. This has all my favorite things in a sushi, how is that possible? Okay okay so it was really that good for me. It could also be that at the time I was hungry but for once, that was not the case. The rolls are pretty wide so either two bite it or just go for it. This roll does not even need soy sauce. Just a bit of ginger which just complements it all so well. The special sauce is green so not really sure what it is but it's not spicy so that was good. It was nice and creamy. Oh man I can't wait to go back ! The Philadelphia roll was very well made. The fish is fresh and all the ingredients are proportional.
UmI sushi thumbs up !
I order delivery from Umi a few times a month. They are a solid sushi option in Midtown East. They are fast and prices are reasonable.
Today I had the maki lunch special:
Miso soup: flavorful!
Philadelphia Roll: good
Eel & Avocado Roll: delicious, large pieces of avocado and moist eel, sauce not too sweet
Salad: very good. their ginger dressing is the BOMB. it is not watery like other places, chunky and flavorful.
They are also generous with the ginger. Sometimes you get only two or three pieces but here they send a lot!
I am always happy after my Umi Sushi delivery.
My friend recommended eating here, as this is her office's go-to sushi spot. It was legit. I really liked their crunchy rolls, though expect to lose half of the fish in the roll since the roll is about 1/2 fish and 1/2 crunch. I wish they added crunch to the outside and only some inside, so there would be more fish. Regardless, the sushi was fresh and the service was super friendly and efficient.
This used to be my go to sushi place around the office after my other sushi place raised their prices. The service is good and they give you a hot towel before your meal. They have the typical 2 roll or 3 roll lunch special with soup and salad. Unfortunately this time around , I bit down on a piece of rock that was in my spicy salmon roll. My tooth is still aching from biting it so hard. The staff was accommodating and took my order off the bill. Sad that this event took place and will result in me looking for a different go to sushi place around the area. Would not want to risk chipping a tooth from this place again.
