a pretty small market but they have very fresh produce (with the price tag to match) the market also sells their own line of coffee that i'm eager to try.
the paying system is a little confusing. you pretty much pay right next to the exit, literally. again, small space. but the staff is helpful and i will be back if i'm in the area and need some coffee, veggies and key lime pie
I have shopped here quite a bit since I updated. It is pricey and people bitch about that but with the turn of the tide in Park Slope there are people who think nothing of dropping $80 on prepared foods and some fancy cheese.
I will say the offerings of baked goods has kinda suffered in terms of what is there. (which I believe coincided with the whole section moving back by the cheese)
Curious to see how the recent opening of the long delayed Whole Foods affects things.
Totally over priced with good produce, seafood and meat. Everyone who works here is nice. The cheese section is great. Tight space and a gourmet feel. Good if you have deep pockets.
Gorgeous store! I walked in and immediately saw a beautiful display of stone fruits. I got some nectarines, which were perfectly ripe. The whole produce section was beautiful. And a really nice selection too. I saw some baby romanesco, and heirloom carrots, sold by color.
Every time I go into a store like this 50$ magically rolls out of my pocket. I was able to control myself and only spend 20$. They had pecan butter, which I resisted the urge to spend 18$.
The cheese section was nice. All these fun cheeses to try and not too expensive either. I got a nice wedge of 8 month raw milk manchego for 4$. It was the best manchego I've ever had.
The layout of the store is awkward, very narrow aisles. I had to do a lot of dodging of strollers and obnoxious children.
I will definitely be back. I need to get more of those nectarines and buy up more of their cheeses.
I really love Union Market, and find that I simply cannot walk by without stopping in. Overall, their stuff is significantly more pricey than any of your chain grocery stores. That's to be expected though from any gourmet or specialty food market.
They do have awesome sales every week, and while they usually only apply to 2-3 items, they are really really good. You have to search for the Special Offer signs around the store.
The cheese selection is excellent, there are always samples, and always 1-2 cheeses on sale.
Lastly, their eggs are really good and are cheaper than surrounding grocery stores.
A gourmet place, of course expensive but I would suggest to buy food which is really worthed like meat or fish or in any case "special" food. If not necessary I would avoid regular sugar and things like that. Scallops were fantastic as well as the ribeye and the salmon. Excellent selection of olives ans cheeses. But all that I bought was good.
Not too big to you might not find something. Not a problem, go there if you like really good stuff.
Another great grocery store within a few blocks from my apartment. Definitely more like a glorified bodega than a full-out market. However, their fresh produce, cheese, bread and coffee (I can't live without) selection matches that of larger grocers.
Try the soups – they are phenomenal!
This place is great! When you need those hard to find high quality ingredients this is the place. They have a great selection of gourmet vegetables, cheeses, breads, meat, fish and all kinds of other fine items. It is pricey but you are gonna pay for the high end stuff, i dont care where you go. If you are looking to create a very nice dinner with some unusual or gourmet ingredients they will have everything you need. Love it.
