Beginning: Pleasant hostess. Nice decor. Great music
Midpalate: Ok. ..waiting 4 breakfast. It's just breakfast and it's taking a long time. Shaft is playing in the background….almost makes up for the wait. Hmmmmm.
Finish: Yay. It's here. Oily but ok eggs, no toast, yummy potatoes. Ok. May I have a coffee refill? One waitress, one waiter, 4 tables. Waiting……May I have a refill? Coffee comes after 2nd request and after paid bill.
About a 3.5: Uptown Brasserie is a little NY-style brassier by Marcus Samuelsson (one of the chefs on 'Chopped'). The menu is pretty extensive, offering breakfast items, appetizers (such as House Smoked Salmon, Chicken Noodle Soup, etc.), sandwiches, burgers, salads, and main courses (such as Chicken & Waffles, Crispy Skin Salmon, etc.). The hubs and I were starving, and we really wanted to get our bellies filled before our flight out. After painstakingly going back and forth in the terminal, we finally decided to take a chance on Uptown Brasserie. We started off with the Cholula Spiced Buffalo Wings (your choice of bone-in or boneless chicken, covered with sweet Cholula sauce with garlic and ginger; I opted for the bone-in, and the wings themselves were perfectly cooked and super crispy; the sauce itself was more of a sweeter sticky concoction of a combination of General Tso's-slash-Korean fried chicken spicy sauce (but, without any spice); set on top of a bed of lettuce, it also had a slight hint of cilantro to it, which I wasn't a fan of, but could be sort of ignored). I had the Market Burger (Pat LaFrieda house-blend beef with bacon, aged cheddar, tomatoes, and red onions, all on a toasted brioche bun with a side of fries; this bun was slightly stale, but the burger itself was pretty tasty; the beef was super juicy and seasoned quite well, and the amount of ingredients were quite generous; the fires were also freshly-fried and delicious), and the hubs had the Fried Yardbird Chicken (fried chicken with a side of mashed Yukon potatoes and sauteed spinach; the fried chicken had more of a sweeter taste to them, but was cooked all the way thorough; this was okay; it would have been great if there was some type of a good hot sauce available for the chicken, as the Uptown's Hot Sauce was also too sweet for it). We also tried a side of the Parmesan & Truffle French Fries – while being quite generous with the Parm shavings, these fries were a little underwhelming; maybe some type of an aioli dipping sauce would have helped, but I highly recommend in just sticking with the regular fries that come with the entrees. I really enjoyed their Half and Half, as they make their own lemonade; no refills, though! The food was all prepared fresh and made-to-order, and the sizes were quite generous and filling. Service was pretty attentive, efficiently, and accommodating, and if you're looking for a decent place for some simple fare at the airport, check Uptown Brasserie out!

Aside from the fact of considering its an airport restaurant, I really was quite impressed.
While waiting for our flight back home to Cali, I wanted to make sure I got something filling to eat before the long flight back. With the few options available closest to our terminal, this seemed to be the most appealing.
The restaurant atmosphere is classy, as well as being quite open and spacious – providing plenty of seating areas. I was seated fairly quickly by the hostess, in a nice secluded area toward the back ; providing great views of the embarking and departing planes.
The menu offers a minimal selection of options to choose from with most of the it sounding quite appealing – overpriced for sure, but that just goes with the territory.
I was approached by my server to place my order. For my drink, I went with one of their special bloody Mary's. Definitely the most priciest bloody Mary I've ever paid for in my life, but I have to say, it turned out damn good. For food, I went with a burger ( can't recall the name ) that came with bacon and some sort of cheese on a brioche bread. It came with fry's I believe, however I opted out and switched for a salad with ranch on the side.
Burger arrived pleasingly presented. It also turned out to be quite delish as well. The patty was cooked perfect, and everything was just flavored wonderfully. My server was a young guy who was outstandingly attentive and professional; made sure my water glass was always filled and that I was satisfied with everything – definitely points for the server.
Overall, aside from the steep prices, I was greatly impressed with my overall experience here.
Clean, nice decor, and friendly staff. I recommend sitting by the back window as you get a great view of the working airport.
The food here really blew me away. I only had a fish sandwich but it tasted like it was prepared fresh in the back which I don't normally get at many airports.
This is now my go to place whenever I'm here.
I'm glad I was already sitting down for breakfast at this place when I looked at the reviews…. why all the hate? I will say, the food was really expensive for breakfast, but you're in an airport…. that's somewhat expected. I had their egg sandwich with the eggs made over medium… it was delish! The eggs were perfect, the bread looked like it was going to be disappointing, but it was incredible!, the bacon was crispy… it was everything I could've wanted in an egg sandwich. Even the potatoes were tasty, and breakfast potatoes are usually terrible and bland. I would return.
Service was just fine when I went. I was ready to order the minute they came to ask for my drink order (based on the previous poor Yelp reviews). I specially ordered the pan seared salmon w/soba noodle salad and it was a delicious, Asian inspired dish.
I can't vouch for anything else other than the water, so make sure you understand the context of my review. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes (I'm a fast eater, and they weren't very busy). Also the tables near the back walls have outlets which were very clutch for me!
I am on my way to the UK and stopped in to the Uptown Brasserie, a restaurant 'by' the famous Swedish-Ethiopian chef Marcus Samuelsson, for lunch and an adult beverage. My husband and I had lunch here almost exactly a year ago on our way to India, and loved it, so I was hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed the decor and the vibe, this experience was different.
First, let me say that in general I am a big fan of Marcus, and it's totally possible today was an off day.
Second, as you enter the restaurant, there is a 'Please Wait to be Seated' sign. So I waited…and waited….and waited…for roughly 5 min. Not a huge span of time, but not what I expected because at 1:15 pm the place was nearly empty. When the hostess, who was chatting with a co-worker, finally noticed me, she did hurry over and apologized for the wait, and she seated me exactly where I wanted to be, near an electrical outlet. So, ok, pass.
Then my server came over, introduced himself and took my drink order. A few min later I had my drinks and put in my order. Then I noticed the place start to fill up, and I thought to myself that I was lucky to get here when I did. However, I watched two tables that were seated after me get served before me, and I wondered if I had been forgotten. I ordered the market burger, medium, with a side of haricot verts in addition to the truffle fries. Not complicated.
When my burger came, it was served with bacon, which I had not ordered (it's extra), and I immediately thought 'bonus!' But then I bit into my burger and it was totally well done. Then I tried a fry and it was like a frozen fry, not fresh cut as we had on our first visit…and it wasn't truffled( which is actually ok since I don't love truffle flavoring).
When my server came back to check on me I pointed out the incorrect doneness and the fries and he offered to take it all back and give me a fresh plate, but I opted to keep it. I finished the whole thing and still enjoyed it, but it is worth noting they didn't get everything right, thus the 3-star rating.
I appreciated the apologies of the staff for making me wait to be seated and for the incorrect food prep, but I would rather see this place live up to Marcus's reputation, which for me, is impeccable food and stellar service every time, every customer, every plate.
Never travelled thru JFK Terminal 4 – its HUGE…and its very nice. Plenty of places to shop and dine. I finally picked this place as it appeared unique amongst the choices. I have been to Marc Samuelsson's other restuarant, Red Rooster, which is very good.
Nice decor. I stopped by for a quick lunch – burger and fries. I could not argue with the basic Market Burger, as it was a special beef blend from Pat Lafreida. Cooked as I had requested – very flavorful. The accompanying fries were crispy, but came other on the cold side. My server was attentive.
