A restaurant not talked about enough! That is Va Bene.
I have come here countless times and my biggest complaint is not being able to come here more often.
Va Bene is a traditional high end Romanian kosher dairy restaurant located on the UES. Beautiful and classy decor greets you as soon as you step foot in.
My husband and I had the pleasure of having Gabriel serve us more than one time. He was super attentive and knew exactly what to recommend. We ordered a bunch of dishes, (pictured below) our favourite was the Crostino Romano. The mushrooms and marsala sauce gives the dish this world of flavours. It's a definite must get. I loved the ravioli too, not only because they are one if not the only kosher restaurant who make their ravioli in house. But the amazing tastes of the stuffing was beyond any ravioli you've ever tasted.
I, always a fan of dessert, loved the profiterole (it also reminded me of these amazing ones I used to get in London).
Va Bene is definitely an authentic dairy restaurant with phenomenal dishes. Prices are steep but well worth it.
This is a pretty good place; but I disagree with the five star reviews. As a kosher restaurant, it compares very favorably to its direct competition. Decor is quite nice, linens on the tables, background music was set too low to notice. The kitchen seems to do a good job. Service is just a little bit off – at least by non-kosher standards.
I went for Sunday lunchbrunch as a guest. Table of four. Tables are set comfortably apart – by NYC standards. Starters included minestrone soup – good; and eggplant parm also good but I have had better. For my entree I had the fettuccine alfredo which was nicely prepared. Our table also had the tortelloni ai funghi (nice), fettuccini ala pomodoro (good) and a fish special branzini (very good).
The ordering process was a bit clumsy as I recall. Friendly but just a bit disorganized. The place has a separate brunch menu on its web site but gave us a lunch menu today. When we inquired; we were told that egg dishes were available upon request. Food came out just a little slow, but we were in no rush. The place was rather busy but not full. When the entrees were served, two plates came out, then an awkward wait for the next two plates. Meanwhile other entrees were coming to the table next to us. Maybe only three or four minutes wait but noticable.
Food prices seemed reasonable to me; plus a decent selection of wines under $40 per bottle.
I would go again.
YUM!!! You would NEVER guss it's Kosher – it's just good Italian food. Love the pasta dishes.
Nice "date night" atmosphere, too.
Glad to see that they are still in business after ll these years. (I went here last in 2003.)
Pretty good kosher Italian. Enjoyed the pizza to start, after hitting up the carbs in the tasty break basket which had flatbread and bruchetta.
I had sea bass for my entree which was very fresh, well prepared and enjoyable.
One of the better kosher restaurants I have tried in the city.
