  1. What a lucky day. My first time in Williamsburg and just about to head home when we pass this truck. I've heard about the vegan ice cream served at Van Leeuwen, so could not pass up the chance even though I was stuffed from dinner.

The Mint Chip has to be the best mint chip I've ever had. It's not abnormally bright green nor overpoweringly sweet like normal mint chip. Instead, it was the perfect level and combination of subtle sweetness and refreshing mint. The Vegan Dark Chocolate was okay. It tasted very much like coconut milk. Not enough dark chocolate flavor.

I also asked to try a spoonful of the Earl Grey just because that seems to be everyone's favorite flavor, but for some reason it tasted like fruit loops to me. Their ice cream is on the expensive side, but I don't mind paying a little extra for good quality ice cream. Coconut milk's more expensive than milk anyways.

  2. On a hot day in Williamsburg I was so excited to see the 'ice-cream man'. The ice cream was what I call proper ice cream. Nice and creamy and the flavor was very strong. I had mint choc chip & chocolate and loved them both, you can really taste the pure chocolate flavor. My husband had espresso & chocolate and said the same thing, normally you get a flavor and it doesn't really taste of it, but said both had a strong flavor.

The truck is cash only so be prepared. I will definitely have my eye out for the truck when I'm out again on a sunny day.

  3. Van Leeuwen does seasonal ice cream flavors and I was lucky enough to be in the neighborhood for it. I shared the earl grey and pistachio with my boyfriend, portions are fair. I definitely prefer the earl grey while my boyfriend likes the pistachio. Very rich in flavor and the server even lets you sample the flavors before you make a choice.

EXTRA bonus points for serving vegan/paleo ice cream!

  4. Love Van Leeuwen's Ice cream. Their ice creams are rich in flavor but not so much to be overpowering. The earl grey ice cream is absolutely delicious! Perfect in flavor and texture. The ice cream truck in Williamsburg is located near the L train; which is perfect because sometimes one just needs to indulge in yummy deliciousness on the way home from a long day of work.

  5. Very simple modern vibe. This place was pretty full when I came on a Sunday afternoon. They have basic flavors, but home-made, so it's bound to be good. We got the vanilla and also the affogato (vanilla with a coffee drink basically). Loved it. The only issue here is the prices. It'll cost you a pretty penny for a pretty small scoop of ice cream ($6).

  6. If you're a fan of soft serve, this is it! What do you expect from an ice cream truck? You won't get the same texture like in store. But hey! Who said that was a bad thing? For those who wait for their ice cream to soften up, get it from a truck instead! They don't carry as many flavors as they do in store but they have the popular ones. I'm only referring to the vegan flavors. They charge $0.50 for ordering a vegan flavor which I find wrong..ice cream should be charged equal! Then again, this shows that vegan ice cream tastes way better than regular! Am I right or am I right? The line can get long so if you don't feel like waiting outside in the heat for ice cream, I suggest stopping by the store.

  7. One of my husbands friends took us to this ice cream spot after raving about it. A cute truck that offers a variety of Vegan Artisan Ice Creams to choose from…though pricer than most other places and a smaller portion. I had the cookies and cream flavor and thought that it tasted ok, nothing extraordinary. I also didn't like the fact that it melted super fast. Probably not the first place that will come to my mind when I think of having some ice cream.

  8. Saw this truck while walking to dinner and when we finished, we made a beeline for it again for dessert. The guy running the place went for a small break so we patiently waited in line Less than 10 minutes later, he was back and they started serving us. I guess their gimmick/hook is organic, natural and vegan ice cream. That explains the almost $6 cone. Haha. Luckily they were able to let us have two flavors on one cone. I opted for strawberry and earl grey. I don't believe they asked me which one I wanted on top but strawberry was on the bottom and it worked out since that was my preferred flavor of the two.
