  1. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy some vegan dim sum. They have a great little dim sum menu that will appeal to vegans and non vegans alike. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. If you are vegan and have not been able to enjoy dim sum then go here now. There is a whole world of vegan dim sum versions of your favorite dishes. Highly recommend.

  2. I'd scoped out this place on Yelp for a long time before I found a group to go with me. I love dim sum and it's unfortunate that at most dim sum places, there's not much selection of dishes without meat.

Since I had been wanting to try this place for some time, I was very disappointed that everything we ordered lacked taste and was pretty oily. I'd like to think that quality varies based on the amount of opposing reviews on their yelp page, but it's unlikely I'll be encouraged to give it another try any time soon.

The search for a good vegetarian dim sum place in New York continues!

  3. The staff was pleasant, kind.  It was very slow inside, only us and one other party of 2.

    Their food has decent flavor.
However, they seem to be forcing mushrooms into every darn dish.  In addition, they add "fake meat" as they call it (sounds gross) to every dish.  If it's a vegetarian house, leave it vegetarian no need to add imitation meat.

Sticky rice: tasted like chicken was in it (fake meat).  It was surely sticky, so that's good but it needed flavor. Not meat taste, but spices.  The leaf it was wrapped in, did add a nice aroma.

Spring roll: very crispy on outside YUM. more (mushrooms inside) threw me off completely. What happened to carrots, cabbage, etc. no mushrooms! it has big pieces of vegetables inside, and it's very WET/moist on the inside.  And the spring rolls are really big. I'd say for them to make them smaller and serve 4 small ones instead of 2 big ones.

Pan fried dumplings: very doughy, and MUSHROOMS again, OH, and "fake meat"

    FOOD: 1 stars
    NICE STAFF = +1 star
    TOTAL: 2 STARS.

    Won't be back.

  4. Note: went here December 2013.

This place is amazing. I have a soft spot for dim sum – a Cantonese comfort food. The problem? Not many places serve vegetarian dim sum and if they do, the selection isn't very big. When I heard of this place, I had to go.

The place is smack dab in Chinatown (I think…. we were tourists so that's the impression I got while walking from the subway station). It's fairly easy to find and the place is on the smaller side, but we didn't have an issue getting a table. The decor was simple and nothing noteworthy, but it wasn't dirty either.  They didn't have the rolling carts (no room) but they had a little menu that you can mark what you wanted and give it to your waiter who would bring your selections to your table.

We are strict vegetarians…. but no onion and garlic, so that was the first thing we asked before we began choosing our food. According to our waiter, we could pretty much choose anything on the menu. I was psyched, because this is a pretty rare phenomenon! We ended up deciding upon 7 items for around $25 and it was a lot of food! They were all delicious and though not devoid of grease, it wasn't as greasy as I've seen some places serve their dim sum. We ended up taking back our leftovers and it was enough for dinner.

I would definitely return if I ever find myself in New York again! …Perhaps it's a good thing that there isn't an all vegetarian dim sum restaurant where I live…

  5. I remember coming to this hole in the wall a few years back with my family that was visiting from California! My mom is of the vegetarian persuasion, so we were immediately drawn to the fact that everything they served was vegetarian! So, when I was in New York, I jumped at the chance to give it another go. Unfortunately, this time around wasn't as tasty as I remembered.

The dumplings themselves were very doughy that impeded the filling inside. Even then, the filling was lackluster! The flavors were bland, with the exception of the crispy "chicken" noodles. That is the one dish that saved the day. Even though our tummies were full, we were left wanting more out the meal. I would recommend saving a trip and locating another dim sum place along that street.

  6. Chinatown Dim Sum Tour Stop #6:

Subtlety is not their strong point, vegetarian dim sum, however, is. Compared to Buddha Bodai, I prefer VDSH because the food is less greasy + the ingredients taste more fresh.

They offer vegetarian versions of all the dim sum classics such as the bbq pork bun, shrimp dumplings, and lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice. The flavor of everything was really good, and my dream of eating bbq pork bun again as a vegetarian came true – gloriously. I also really liked the rice rolls here.

Another bonus – there's usually no wait!

  7. I love this place especially because it's so hard to go to dim sum restaurants if you're a strict veggie or even pescatarian. So this place is awesome because EVERYTHING is up for grabs. They have excellent turnip cakes (delicately flavored and tasty and when coated with chili oil and soy sauce is JUST DIVINE). I also liked their (fake) shrimp dumplings, and their dry-fried string beans. They were out of their pea shoot dim sum which my friend loves and was sad about. Friendly fast service and yummy food.

  8. Tried this place again for another Chinese New Year brunch and the luster definitely faded.  Food was sub-par, place was mostly empty, and service was slow. I think there are better options out there, even in the veggie category.
