When I visit New York, I make time to shop at Saks. At some point, I need to sit and relax with a beverage and bite.
Most recently, I had a late lunch at the champagne bar. I sat at the bar/counter so I could see a bit of views outside from the windows. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly and efficient. I had a glass of champagne and the lobster roll. The lobster roll was fresh and delicious and had a nice chopped green salad accompaniment. The presentation was lovely and the meal was filling..
The atmosphere was just what I was after: hip, trendy, yet relaxing and comfortable. Prices were in line with what you'd expect for a Saks restaurant in NYC. I though the prices were fair considering the delightful meal and service.
On the Fifth floor of Saks, there's a small area that served small bites and coffee, otherwise known as SnAKS. Since the end of 2014, it has since been renovated and renamed as the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Lounge.
The Veuve Clicquot Champagne Lounge serves the same types of bites, such as Tomato bisque soup and open faced sandwiches, but they also have $26 glass of sparking Veuve. It's a great space to rest your feet after walking around Saks and the rest of Fifth Avenue. I actually prefer the Champagne Lounge over the department 7th floor SFA Cafe, mostly due to the Champagne Lounge's newer, chiller feel.
The food is good. High price tag, but it's obvious that the kitchen staff pays attention to food quality and presentation.
One downside to the Champagne Lounge, is that it's a little bit more tourist-ey than the 7th floor Cafe. It's not major, but just something I noticed.
