  1. Took a chance on this spot on a frigid winter day after some sledding in Central Park. As soon as we walked in I knew it was the right decision. It's a classic NY diner/deli, with lots of counter seating, an open kitchen, and all the classics you could want on the menu. Items like the grilled cheese, egg sandwich, and french fries are sure to be done well. It's fun to watch the guys at the grill as they're true artistes when it comes to their spatula skills. They also have an impressive dessert case that I'd love to dive into sometime.

Two downsides about this place: it's very tiny and narrow, so not good for groups. Also, they only take cash so make sure to come prepared!

  2. Really small old fashioned diner. The path between the booths and counter is narrow. I was bumped throughout my meal. The manager doesn't help because he passed back and forth barking orders to his help.
I saw customers walk in and then turn around and leave. Some customers the manager/owner knew. One customer asked to use the restroom. Manger said its across the street in Barney's!!
They have a lot of delivery and take out.
It was overpriced. Food was the way I like it though. I prefer to add my own seasoning. Another down side for me is no sweet potato fries!!
I'll have to give it some thought before I return.

  3. My review is based on service. To be honest I came here to buy a homeless man dinner. I have heard that this place is somewhat of a institution in NYC. So when I ran into this man who wanted money. I offered to go down the block and get him a good diner style meal and some coffee.

The inside is quite small. They have old school bar style seating and a few tables in the back. It was cramped. The staff was great. I was at the door and I couldn't walk back to the counter to place my order because there were to many people waiting for there food for take out (this place is small). The 2 staff members came and took my order through all of the people.

There were 2 girls my age that were eating and started talking to me. The atmosphere was very relaxed and open. They actually asked if I wanted to join them. I told them why I was here and they were surprised. When I say the place is old school and chill, it really is. It's solid good food that will cost $20 for 2 people.

I will be back to this place. I do recommend coming here if you want a old school meal. Just like it was 30 years ago. The people are friendly. Just good vibes all around.

  4. service was somewhat sluggish for a Tuesday afternoon. i walked and decided to sit at counter area. took about 8 minutes to get acknowledged. Waiter took my order and shortly my burger with fries and soda came out. I like this place but it seems like service is somewhat inconsistent. let me just add that my club soda with extra lemons came out and i was not able to get a straw as the waiter never came back to check on me. not the level of service i would expect from them.

  5. This is a very small, compact diner – but if you're in this neighborhood and looking for a great diner breakfast, check it out. There's a row of narrow booths that seat 2, and then the counter. I recommend the sardine platter – exactly as described. Omelettes are good, too, quite large. Coffee is excellent for a diner. Yes, it's probably the most expensive diner breakfast I've ever purchased, but do you know what neighborhood you're in? Still, a better deal than eating, say, in your hotel's restaurant. Lots of local people seem to like the place.

My experience was that the service was highly expeditious. Waiter was attentive throughout the meal.

Note that they only take cash.

  6. When I lived in this neighborhood, you could have found me on one of their throwback counter stools at least once per week. I'll never get sick of these greasy spoons that serve as a glimpse into the New York of yesteryear that's slowly fading away. I'm not a product of the '50s or '60s, but when I'm here, it feels like I am (minus the Taylor Swift being played over the radio).

It's a diner with the typical diner bells and whistles. Burnt coffee, eggs, pancakes, sandwiches, et al. Nothing here will surprise you. But you'll feel great eating it of you admire nostalgia.

It's also quite close to Central Park and serves as a nice post game meal for any romp through.

  7. It was what I was looking for- something quick and accommodating. I ordered a croissant bacon egg and cheese. It wasn't the best and a bit on the cooler side, but for being in a rush I didn't mind. Service is very attentive and friendly. Bill came to $14 for a cappuccino and egg sandwich.

  8. The place is more of a diner than a coffee shop.  The food looks great.  They do make a good hot chocolate and the cookies are decent.  The service is fast and efficient.  Not the friendliest place I've been but then again we were in NYC and all the help there seems to all speak Spanish so it might just be a cultural thing.
