Downgrading to 3-stars… not because of the food but because of their arrogance. I called to make a reservation for a party of 12 and their response was something to this effect … sorry we can't do it because December is a very busy time and 6 is the most we can accommodate because we are a small restaurant and if we take your reservation, we will lose many other tables… Too bad… as you can see from my previous review.. I used to love this place.
Tip for Village Green: Next time, less candor… just tell the customer that you are booked up that day.
My fiancee and I had their 3-course menu lunch offering and fell in love. Thank God that we are having our Rehearsal Dinner here in September. We cannot wait to see what Chef Kevin has in store then (seasonal menu)!
I want to say thank you to the Chef for being very accommodating to our schedule, palates and price for our rehearsal dinner.
But let's be real, what's to get here?
Well, we got their salmon and chicken. Both excellent, with a slight nod to the chicken for the French Onion sauce. Additionally, their desserts were delightful.
I don't think you'd go wrong coming here, whether it be lunch, dinner, a special occasion (best to book on a Sunday as they are closed except for special parties then).
We can't wait! SURPRISE US CHEF KEVIN!
Delicious American cuisine and BYOB. I visited several times for lunch. lunch 3 course tasting menu is $20 which is a great deal. Appetizer, main course and dessert is included.
This restaurant is clean and modern atmosphere. I liked general set up of dining area. It was kind of Relaxing and comfortable. Service was consistently good and well mannered. Never had any problem.
Food were simply amazing and delicious.
I've tried wagyu beef loaf, Bronzino, walnut crusted Brie cheese, butternut squish soup.. They were all delicious.
Perfect place for girls gathering or date dinner. This is one of my favorite dining spots in ridgewood. I'm gonna go back for dinner one day. Parking can be little tough in ridgewood during the lunch hour. Street parking and municipal parking lot around the restaurant.
Another extraordinary meal at the hands of Kevin Portscher. We ate and drank for 3 hours and I could not think of a finer culinary experience to share with visiting family.
Soft shell crab, wagyu beef, pork belly with watermelon, bonito, grouper, seafood crepe, almond soufflé, kale salad, caesars and a gazpacho amuse with gnocchi intermezzo were all perfect. Service was flawless and the added desserts (cheesecake and apple cake) were top notch (see pics). I am floored by how deftly Kevin seasons every dish — how flavorful and perfectly paired his sauces are with the dishes. The timing on the 5 course service is impeccable.
Come here to relax and enjoy your companion(s). His food is a massage for your senses that will upscale your entire experience.
In my book TVG is the best restaurant in Ridgewood — hands down. Worth every penny.
BYOB.
Very good service.
Pastas & appetizers were great. Lots of flavor. My salmon main course was a bit fishy though.
The Village Green is an amazing spot in Ridgewood to get a great lunch. Period. I'd say it's now become my favorite place to eat in Ridgewood.
I came here with my wife and father-in-law for a lunch one day last week. We're a fishing family, so my father-in-law had brought in some sea bass and fluke to be done by the chef (who was absolutely phenomenal, and just an all-around good guy). The ambiance is great, but the only thing that's rough is parking. It's on a corner lot, and snagging a spot in Ridgewood midday is definitely not easy. But that's nothing against them!
+Appetizer: Caesar salad done perfectly. They served it as one big chunk of lettuce, covered in a nice cheese grating and finished off with a light, delicious Caesar dressing. I actually didn't mind the big slice of lettuce, as it allowed me to DIG IN a bit more.
+Entree: This is a bit of a disclaimer – we had eaten fish that we caught previously (as I mentioned earlier), so I'm not sure if this is offered on the menu or not? Regardless, what I really liked about this meal and the chef is that it's always done differently. He actually came out during the meal, and told us he never likes to cook fish the same way. New spices. New variations. New methods of cooking. And it tasted absolutely fantastic. I actually liked my wife's sea bass a lot more. It was a bit more buttery than my fluke, and I liked it a lot. However, the fluke was done beautifully, and it was one of the nicest presentations I'd also seen.
+Dessert: Carrot Cake + Cappuccino. Both were spot-on. I'm a big carrot cake fan, and Village Green's methods didn't disappoint. Soft, creamy, and rich, it hit the spot perefectly after an awesome lunch. The cappuccino, paired with the cake, was the perfect end to a terrific lunch experience.
I'd HIGHLY recommend trying out V.G. if you're in Ridgewood for a lunch, weekday or weekend. Even though the parking might be a bit of a hassle, the meal itself is beyond worth it.
Frequented this restaurant on a Wednesday evening in February. The place was fairly empty when we arrived. We ordered the baked brie, which was very tasty and the house made Gravlax, which was delicious and comes highly recommended. I ordered the Bouillabaisse, which I thought was good, the scallops were huge and the shrimp were tasty, but I wasn't wow'd. My mom ordered the Bronzino special. I thought hers was better than mine, but again, I've had better. We then ordered the mixed berry crumb for desert. It was served hot and was very tasty. However, it could have used more ice cream in my opinion. Overall though, the fish was fresh, the service was impeccable and the waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. Cute spot.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Coming here on a week night is perfect to enjoy a nice romantic quiet dinner. That's what my husband and I did as we celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. Making a reservation was silly because we were the only ones in the restaurant on a Monday night at 7pm. I didn't doubt the place wasn't good just because no one was there.
Ambiance: very cozy and casual dressy type of place. Obviously the BYOB is a major plus. Tables were separated with a good distance where you have enough privacy but also maximizing the space of the restaurant. The dim lighting creates the mood (of course not TOO dim).
Menu: simple and to the point. There are options to choose a la carte or you can choose the five-course menu for $60/person. Menu varied from home-made pastas to pan sear duck to different types of fish (cod, sea bass, salmon).
Staff: again, having gone on a Monday night, only one server was working and he was more than enough. He was very attentive and continuously refilled our water when other patrons arrived. He was extremely courteous and helpful with any questions we may have had. He acknowledged us quietly, knowing when to take our plate away or ask if we needed anything wrapped to go.
Experience: 10 outta 10. Hands down. My husband and I wanted to try a little bit of everything so we decided with the five-course meal (pictures to follow). Here is the following items chosen from their tasting menu : (1) baked Brie- brie was cooked to perfection. A fancier mozzarella stick if you will. Asian pears tasted delicious with the baked Brie. (2) lump crab Louis- the presentation for this was amazing. I'm a big fan of avocados and the freshness of this dish was to die for. (3) Gamberettos Pisarei a faso- OMG everything on this dish was orgasmically good. The dish came with 3 medium sized shrimps and the white beans and little dumplings complimented the shrimp so well. (4) pan seared crescent duck- I've had good duck before, but this duck was cooked to PERFECTION. There's no other words to describe the dish. I asked for the duck to be cooked medium and it was just absolutely perfect. The meat was chewy on the inside with a little crisp around the edges. (5) cheesecake- this cheesecake was probably one of my top cheese cakes I've ever had. It wasn't as good as the ones they offer at 17 Summer in Lodi, NJ, but it was definitely up there. The walnut crust was absolutely delicious and the cheesecake itself was amazingly soft. I'm at a loss of words with this place because it was that good.
I HIGHLY recommend this place to everything thats looking for Amazing food. I hope to go again during their peak hour to see how consistent the service and food quality is (I doubt it's bad!) but having been the only customers for about an hour gives us a little advantage in service and food quality. No questions asked, I will definitely come back for more!
