Very nice decor and the food was pretty good. Checking in with Yelp gave me and my friends a complimentary glass of wine, yay! I am a big fan of their arugula margarita pizzas, and I totally recommend this.
Great place for a date or just a chit-chat time with some good friends.
The food is really good. Kind of expensive. The valet was MIA and I had to wait for 10 minutes for my car and then I ended up getting it myself.
A lot can happen in six years, and this breaks my heart. This was one of the first places that helped to break me out of my picky eating habits, and made me try new delicious things that changed my relationship with food. I have a soft spot for it.
The menu is completely changed. They used to have unique dishes, different sauces, fresh vegetables. It's all your red sauce joint standards now, fettuccine alfredo and the like. They did still make me the fettuccine villagio, the dish I wrote about in my original review, but I had to ask for it, it's not listed. And it wasn't nearly as good as I remember. Admittedly, palates change, but there was definitely a lot different this time around. Parmesan arrived at our table pre-grated, no fresh pepper was ever offered to us.
The boy ordered the stuffed veal. I'm not sure what was going on, but it was stuffed with lettuce and pizza sausage, and I'm pretty sure the mushrooms in both of our dishes were canned 🙁 The sauce it was in was just strange. He compared the whole thing to a veal Hot Pocket. I don't see how this is something they could serve on a regular basis to anyone. He didn't feel well that night or the next day (mind you, this was not food poisoning, but something was definitely off about the dish).
We felt rushed from the moment we walked in (it wasn't busy). Our waiter rattled off what we think were three specials with no pauses in-between dishes or ingredients. When we asked him to repeat himself because he went too fast, he did the same thing. Throughout the meal I had to quickly spit out my requests as he was walking away mid sentence and usually not looking at either of us. Then we waited about 20 minutes for the check until I got up and asked for it, and was told he didn't want to rush us. What on earth? They were playing Top 40: Titanium, Bruno Mars. It's a cozy red sauce joint, nothing was making sense that night.
Quick service, friendly waiters- water glasses were constantly refilled, dishes were brought out in a timely manner, and if I ever made eye contact with the waiter, he'd come over to see if our table needed anything. Definitely a place worth coming back to!
As for my dish, it was a bit salty, but that was more of the ingredients involved as opposed to the cooking of it. I thoroughly enjoyed my Cesar salad! My friend's steak was a bad cut, with too much fat, but they cooked it medium rare, and it looked perfect. The side of veggies seemed well cooked, not overdone where it lost its color or became too mushy. I liked that the table had olive oil ready for bread to be dipped into, but I wish there were spices to add to it, so the bread would be even more enjoyable to dip into.
When I come here again, I plan to try new dishes!
I live about 2 blocks from this place and come here at least once every 2 months for the past 3 or 4 years. I'd come more if I could but since I've gone to school and worked in the city for these past 3 – 4 years, its hard to find the time.
The food at this place is consistently good as well as the service.
Their calamari appetizer and seafood pizza are the best things to order in my opinion but I love a lot of their dishes. The chicken Parmesan and chicken francese are delicious as well but I prefer the latter simply because of personal preference and I feel chicken parm is a bit heavy in general. These both come with a side of pasta (always absolutely delicious), which I always get, or vegetable. The eggplant Parmesan is also delish for vegetarians or those who, like me, enjoy keeping a partially vegetarian diet at times. Their chocolate souffle dessert is also to die for but they've run out a few times ;(
All their food is consistently delicious but whats better is their prices! Everything is under $20 🙂
Overall, this is still my favorite and the best Italian restaurant I've tried in all of NYC and I've tried many! From the lofty $$$$ Restaurant Week places, to Little Italy, to countless mom and pop places in the city.
The only con / warning I have is don't come during holidays. The one un-enjoyable experience I had was when I came here one Valentine's Day. Service was excruciatingly slow, they had inflated prices for the entire menu, food was iffy.
I had bought my soon to be in-laws a gift certificate here for Christmas so a couple weeks later, the four of us decided to have dinner at Villagio. I had never been inside even though I've passed it a million times. When first walking in it's very cozy and looks like a classic Italian restaurant. We had to wait for a bit so where trying to find somewhere to stand without being in the way which was hard as the entrance is smack between the bar and the pizza oven and there isn't very much wiggle room. We sat and were immediately asked if we wanted a drink. We ordered waters and sodas. As we read the menu, my fiance's mother stated how she didn't want to make a choice until hearing the specials because she had a special once before and it was delicious.
To our dismay and confusion, the waiter hastily came over and asked us what we were going to order. So after a moment of uhhh's from us, we ordered from the menu. The dishes were tasty but nothing spectacular.
I think that because they had a full house and a party going on in the next room, things were a bit more unorganized than usual. However, nothing is screaming for me to go back…maybe I will, maybe I won't.
We were driving around the College Point Whitestone area one evening when came across this little hole in the wall almost local restaurant tucked away on 14th ave and we decided impulsively to go in, even though it was a Friday night and we didn't have reservations, we were lucky enough to be seated pretty quickly. The interior is very warm, cozy, inviting, dimly lit and definitely has a family-friendly atmosphere. We had the calamari there which was really superb and we had a margarita pizza which the fresh mozzarella really shined in with the basil. I asked for a simple baked ziti just to see how their pasta and their sauce was and I was not disappointed at all. My wife also tried the linguine with clams, the portions were huge she barely was able to eat a quarter of it. It's a quaint neighborhood favorite it seems where the staff is super efficient and friendly, they have their regulars that they greet by name and it's nice to see such good customer service. Will be back again.
