  1. In summary: Nice people, ok food, poor service.

I've passed by Vinateria many times and have always been curious. I finally had a chance to try it and won't be back.

Waiter was flustered. Brought back wrong cocktails. Had to literally get our own silverware and napkins. Food was mediocre. They weren't even busy so I'm not sure what their excuse was. The manager came over and we shared our complaints. She had us point out the waiter and insinuated that she'd be canning him but did nothing about improving our experience.

    Unprofessional.

We took the bill before our food came and went to a trusted restaurant in Harlem to eat.

  2. Having worked at Columbia for all of these years, I've become pretty bored of what the local community has to offer. Vinateria was a gem of a find that i have yet to get bored of.

I've been here for brunch, happy hour, and dinner and have yet to be disappointed. The bar staff is amazing – especially Andrea. The baselisk is my go-to drink.

The food is great. I've had the (perfectly cooked and seasoned) steak and the (amazing) branzino. The snacks are also great (squid ink pasta, fried balls, calamari, etc.)

    Keep it up!

  3. Came here on a Saturday around 8:30pm.

Ambience: Place is vibrant but not spacious enough. They have tables directly next to the bar which means if you're sitting at these tables, get ready for people to be allll over your space.  Luckily, we were seated in the back, at the communal table which was not as bad as it sounds.

Service: Hostess was nice. I like that they text you about your table. Our waitress was also nice although we had to ask for bread when the people next to us got bread automatically.

Food: We had the black spaghetti with octopus and it was quite yum.  We also had the boneless short rib with mashed potatoes instead of polenta and the meat just fell off so easily; we were very pleased. We had the zeppoles with gelato and well, ice cream makes everything better, so no complaints here.

If the place was bigger and they had more pasta options, it would be perfect.

Overall it was good experience and I would go back and try some of their wines.

  4. I love vinateria, its such a fun place in Harlem! Great wine selection, the ports alone are to die for.

The food is solid (three stars, nothing out of this world). Fun music, mixed crowd, great vibe and friendly waitstaff that's willing to help you find  the right drink.

I would always bring friends who live out of town friends here for a catch-up dinner over a bottle of wine, when I lived in Harlem.

  5. Small portions but I was very impressed with their service and knowledge about wine. We were allowed to try a couple pours of wine after stating vaguely what it is we wanted. It is kind of a place to see and be seen though — I tend to like more low key joints. Even 67 Orange Street feels mildly more divey.

Like everyone says, the octopus squid ink pasta is good – but again, portion size. I was expecting much more for $18.

  6. Came here with the family for a birthday dinner. Nice layout for outdoor seating. Friendly staff and excellent customer service from start to finish. For appetizers we ordered the Grilled Octopus (with crispy potatoes), Calamari Fritti and Burrata (with Roasted Beets, Micro Arugula). We shared orders of the Black Spaghetti (with octopus & breadcrumbs) and the Seas Bass (with cauliflower puree) for dinner. Everything was delicious. My only complaint is that the portions are not big. Overall great experience.

  7. My brother introduced us to this place on our visit.  The food was all amazing and fairly priced.   I highly recommend!

  8. Everything at Vinateria was great. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, you will feel completely cared for thanks to thoughtful composition of the drinks and dishes and thoroughly (but not overly) attentive service.

First, the drinks. I started with a Basilisk cocktail, which was absolutely delicious — so simply made and still just as good as any high end speakeasy mixologist concoction. It was served with a huge, fragrant basil leaf floating right on top to engage your sense of smell while drinking, making it even better. The wine was also good. When I asked our server to recommend something medium bodied, more dry than sweet, she came back with a taste of the Tempranillio which proved perfect. As I noted earlier, service was consistently thoughtful and attentive. When my friend first ordered a glass of Lambrusco and realized it was flat, our server was quick to open a fresh bottle for her.

We decided to share a bunch of things: charcuterie plate, crispy artichokes, mixed greens salad, and confit lamb ribs. On the charcuterie plate I think we got the pichin and and caciotta al tartufo, both of which were good, though my favorite was the chicken liver pate by far. Thankfully there was plenty of pate to go around — we needed two bread refills to finish it, both of which were readily brought to us. The crispy artichokes came next and were really, really good, fried in a light batter and served with a lemony tarragon dipping sauce. The mixed greens salad was very fresh, well dressed and balanced. The lamb confit ribs didn't disappoint either; the meat was super tender and fell clean off the bones while still maintaining just the right amount of chewiness in texture.

The only part of the meal I wasn't impressed by was the dessert, neither in the selection overall nor the individual dessert I chose. I have pretty classic preferences when it comes to desserts, and everything on the menu was just a bit frou-frou for my tastes. I was curious about the chocolate panna cotta, but it didn't really have the texture of panna cotta at all and obviously not the taste; it was basically something between chocolate mousse and pudding with whipped cream and super sweet caramel drizzled on top. Wasn't into it.

But truly, this place is great and I would love to come back for another visit to try more of the menu, or even the brunch!
