  1. Kind of want to give this place 3.5 stars, so I'll round up to 4 as 3 seems to harsh.

Overall this place is pretty good. A modern, quaint Italian wine bar with a small menu. Out of the apps and entrees, half were just eh and half were outstanding.

We started with grilled clams (app special of the night) and the eggplant Parm app.

The eggplant was amazing! I would get that again as a small entree. The eggplant was so tender and the flavors were great. It comes in a croc type bowl so there was a delicious layer of crispy cheese on top.

The clams on the other hand were alright- the portion size was generous (a plus), but not all the clams tasted so good and some had cold water come out when you ate it (possibly were frozen and not thawed well enough?) although they were not overcooked at all so another plus

For entrees our table has the fagottini stuffed w pumpkin and cheese, the cavatelli with lamb ragu and tagliatelle bolognese.

My entree (the fagottini) was amazingggg. It was so flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly (fagottini is basically giant ravioli)

My bf had the lamb ragu which he said was ok. He was a bit disappointed, which was a bummer as it looked really good. He thought the pasta was kind of overcooked. Maybe an off night?

    Other:
-Our apps took about 35 mins to come out. I know sat night is busy but 35 mins is kind of a while.
-there is a section on their online menu (on their website) that is missing from the menu we got. It's strange because everything else is identical. It's the "secondi" portion that has a chicken and salmon dish. So that's a bit confusing, although they did accommodate and make someone from our party chicken.

To end on a high note, the service was also exceptional. I love how the bus boys ask if they can take your plate instead of just snatching it (some people like to take their time eating so it may look like they're done but they're not!) so I really appreciated that as well.

  2. Well they've definitely got an interesting menu! I can't say that I loved everything, but I do appreciate the creativity that was put into coming up with all of these dishes.

Here's what we had (no meat dishes because it was a Friday during Lent):
    – Baked and creamed cod and fried polenta: the polenta was breaded and fried perfectly. The cod was super rich. If you eat all of it, the flavor is a bit overpowering. I felt that it could use some sort of freshness.
    – Shrimp croquettes and tomatoes: delicious! I wish the portion size was just a bit bigger – there were only two croquettes for this dish. The tomatoes were crunchy and fresh
    – Pasta stuffed with pumpkin and tallegio cheese: it sounds good, right? I wasn't too blown away by this dish. In guess I'm not a fan of pumpkin in my pasta. Again, the serving size was pretty small – three large pieces of pasta for this one.
    – Panna cotta: I'm glad we ended our meal on a good note! This dessert was exceptionally creamy, and the strawberries acidic and the chocolate have it even more sweetness.

Service was great – always refilling our waters and clearing our table. This was helpful because the tables by the window are so tiny! The venue itself is nice, and it seems like a great place for a date night.

  3. One word: De-Lish-OUS !!!!

Came here for a birthday dinner and mindy the bartender was WONDERFUL. We had meatballs, octopus salad and meat/cheese plate to start. Everything was seasoned well and the octopus salad was beyond! Worth the money for the tentacles!

Risotto came next and it was in a huge pot. Beware it's big enough for 4 ppl!

Water glass is never empty and mindy makes a mean mojito. Sweet and just how I like it, with tons of mint leaves

Will be back again. Everyone seems like they are family here.

  4. Great food! Good service! Just a heads up, the restaurant is pretty small. There is a long wait for this amazing pasta! I was looking forward to ordering the ink squid pasta with seafood, but when I received the menu, I looked over the pasta section 3x and could not find it. I let my server know what I was looking for but he said that they change their menu every season. They will only have that dish in the spring and summer. They will definitely be seeing me again!

We were a party of 2 and ordered 2 apps and 2 pastas. One odd thing is that their wine is served in a cup instead of the classic stemware.

    Apps:
    1. Burrata (homemade fresh mozzarella cheese & grape tomatoes with salt, pepper, basil and olive oil) This was so delicious, the cheese just melts in your mouth.
    2. Mussels with spicy tomatoes (giant mussels with tomato base sauce, not spicy) These were probably one of the biggest mussels I've ever had an a restaurant. It was literally the size of the shell. The sauce was not too creamy and was full of flavor, great for dipping with bread.

    Pastas:
    1. Linguine with seafood: 5/5 stars for this pasta. Definitely recommended, it's a little spicy so if you do not like spicy, please do not order, or if possible, ask them to take it easy on the spiciness.
    2. Ribbon pasta with meat sauce: We should have not ordered so many pastas, I was so fill by the time this pasta was served. The meat sauce is with beef and lamb, which made it a little gamey.

Overall, I will be coming back to try their summer and spring menu and maybe their Sunday brunch too!!

  5. Totally a 5 for me! Came here for brunch on a nice Sunday, and everything was perfect. The whole time there was a live band playing and my water cup was never empty (super attentive). The entire menu was wallet friendly and each meal also came with a complimentary drink which ranged from mimosas, to bellinis, and sangrias. I am super excited to come back again for Brunch and for dinner. Nice little gem hidden on the quiet streets of Astoria…

  6. This Italian wine bar and restaurant sets in a hidden but cute area of Astoria, Queens.  We came here at an unusual time for lunch, a bit before noon on a Friday.  As the first customers of the day, we got the best table in the house, right next to the glass window with a decent view.

Too early for cocktails and wine, we dove right into the appetizers and ordered the Burrata Mozzarella.  I'v recently had some really bad pizzas in Austin so i wanted to rinse that taste out of my mouth with NYC pizza.  I got the Bufalina Pizza, which came with a light layer of tomato sauce, topped with fresh cherry tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil (still green and fresh). It wasn't the greatest i've ever had, but it was definitely ten times better than any pizzas i've had in the past year and a half. Pizza and I are cool again!!!

We also got the Spaghetti Alle Vongole, which came with the linguine with baby clams, fresh tomato sauce and parsley.  We both agreed that we normally prefer the thicker linguine, but this was still delicious!  The tomato sauce had a mildly sour taste to it while the parsley gave it the fresh herb balance. They were also quite generous with the clams.  This was fantastic!

The ambiance, decor and service were also easy 5.0/5.0!  Pricing was on the premium side for Astoria though.

  7. Pasta made from scratch, fresh, and always cooked al dente. This is the best way to enjoy pasta. All the dishes are quality choices but I wish the menu was longer. Cozy spot and live music on certain days.

  8. This place has been on my bookmarks for what seems like forever and I've read so many great reviews that I had such high hopes.

Everyone is so attentive and it's not the over bearing kind where they're constantly interrupting your meal. Huge plus for me!

As an appetizer we tried the piccante pizza which was good and better than I expected. The salami has a slight hint of spice and it's as thin as paper and not overly salty. The cheese was just so gooey and pretty much what people expect in that bite of pizza. But this is on the heavy side bc of the strong taste of gorgonzola cheese so have a strong appetite if you want to order pizza and entrées.

As for the pasta which I was rly looking forward to since I had ordered one of their specials was not great… Actually, it wasn't even good to me. I took a few bites and didn't touch it. That first bite was so salty that my whole body got a shock from it. The spices weren't mixed right into the pasta that I'd taste one aspect of the dish at a time. I also tried my dates pasta and what I got was a mouthful of undercooked pasta. I actually prefer my pasta to be on the firm side but this was just not done. I thought I was chewing on plastic for a moment. Although that undercooked bite I took was the worst of the dish. I took another bite and it was alright…

This definitely calls for another try because I feel like I just got unlucky but for anyone who might want to check out this place, I will recommend their risotto. Looks absolutely delish!!! I can't wait to try it when I come back!
