  1. So we got a little flyer in the mail. We were in the neighborhood and decided to try it out. It was hands down the best pizza I've ever had. We also had the croustini which was procutto with honey truffle with marscapone cheese. It was amazing!! I practically licked the plate. Our waiter Nick, was the world's nicest guy. Was talking to my children and just being really nice and attentive. The prices were excellent, service top notch, food great, modern styling, clean chic bathroom. We will be back…probably next week. Can't stop thinking about the procutto

  2. I went to Vulcano 081 with my wife for Valentine's Day. My experience here was a little underwhelming.

The atmosphere was trendy but still casual. The tables were clean and candle-lit. The service was awesome. From the host, to the wait staff, to the manager checking in on us – everyone was friendly and helpful. We were also offered a $10 gift certificate for our next visit. (Not sure why we received this but something about a grand "re-opening" type thing? – still confusing to me but apparently they had closed down and re-opened…I don't know)

The food was unimpressive. The appetizers were good but the pizza (which seems to be their business highlight) was really lacking. There were very few toppings. The crust was chewy and a little burnt and everything in the middle of the pizza was soupy.

For the price, we did not receive good value. I don't think Ill be back to use the $10 gift certificate.

  3. Order take out from here last week, and it was pretty darn good. I walked in the wrong entrance, which is the back entrance near the train station, and awkwardly walked thru the entire restaurant. Good thing was I got to walk by the awesome brick oven they imported from Naples. Apparently they cook the pizzas for 90 seconds on 1000 degrees. I got to the front and at first they seemed like they wanted nothing to do with getting me my take out order, so I stood in a really awkward place to try and get them to service me. I was near the bar, which was tiny but nice, and it looked like glasses and bottles of nice Italian red wine were flowing. Everyone was eating pizza, and I'm glad we ordered it. Once they checked me out, we headed back home to enjoy.

We went for a Margerhita DOP pizza, RVC pizza, and truffle fries to share. Was like $44 for all three, and we opened a bottle of our own red wine to enjoy. Both pizzas were great, but we should have eaten in the restaurant, as they weren't nearly as warm as they would have been if we had eaten them fresh out of the oven. I was glad we paid the few extra dollars on each pizza to make it DOP and get the Buffala mozzarella instead of the regular mozzarella, as this stuff was awesome. The sauce, olive oil, prosciutto and lettuce were all great too. Pizza was awesome to say the least, brick oven, thin, Naples style pizza. The truffle fries were fine but nothing special. I first had Parmesan truffle fries at STK in Manhattan, and they were thick and stacked like jenga blocks and covered in Parmesan. Now, every time I order truffle fries, I expect that, but these were just regular thin fries with some cheese on them. They were good, but nothing special.

We were able to finish all of the food, as the pizza was very thin, but we were hungry before and stuffed after.

One final thought, I live in RVC and must've driven past the front entrance to this place on N Village ave 100 times, but I never noticed it. The reason I went in the back entrance is that i assumed that was the main entrance as the sign out back is big and bold. The front sign is not distinctive, and the writing on it is tiny. They should revamp the front awning to be more noticeable, although they don't seem to need more customers as they were packed on a Friday night when I was in there picking up my to go order. I heard this place was good from a guy I played golf with, who said to give it a try. He was right. It's a nice juxtaposition with my normal heavy, thick pizza from Paradiso up the street. Next time, I have to try the Nutella pizza.

  4. Amazing pizza and incredibly cozy atmosphere! I haven't heard of this place or even knew it opened until my brother suggested it recently. They have a great wine selection with unique Italian soda and beer as well. There are so many different types of pizza to choose from and are decently sized. You can easily share a pie with another person, or order one for yourself – depending on your hunger level. The capers salad appetizer is one of the best I've ever had and the truffle fries were bomb, too! If you decide to check his place out, those are two apps you MUST go for. I am really a fan of this restaurant. Not only for the quality of the food but the decor and ambiance really set a nice mood. The desserts sounded and looked phenomenal and are on my list for my next visit.

It is a little expensive but definitely a nice night out. Looking forward to coming back, however next time I may just get a simple pie and some wine (and dessert, duh) at the bar.

  5. Another pizza place in Rockville Centre!? Pffft, What do they have that the other places don't?

Well for starters, they have a massive custom mosaic wood fire oven imported from Naples. It's gorgeous and it cooks amazing pies in 90 seconds. They have a similar oven at Paulie Gee's in Brooklyn, considered to be one of the best pizza spots in NY.

My favorite pizzas so far were the Michele (bacon marmalade, caramelized onions, burrata cheese) and the Brooklyn (marscopone and speck) and the Salsiccia (crumbled sausage, garlic, fresh mozzarella).

Stopped in for lunch today. $12 special got me a delicious cavatelli with crumbled sausage, ricotta, and broccoli rabe, a side meatball, and a fresh arugala salad. Arugala. It's a veg-e-ta-bull. Great deal, great food.

Michael the manager/owner is personable and friendly, even gave us a tiramisu on the house. Nice guy!

I've been to Vulcano 4 times and never had anything that wasn't delicious. I know most RVC people are stuck in their ways with either Nick's or Blue Moon or wherever, but give Vulcano a chance, you won't be disappointed.

    Ciao Bella.

  6. Came Saturday night (4/16/2016) for dinner. We had a pleasant time. The space is very beautiful, intimate, dimly lit, and not excessively loud even with the restaurant decently full. Would come back again for the ambiance alone.

    Food overall was good:
    – I expected the pizza to be outstanding. It ended up being good but not more than good. We shared the crudo (12" pie with tomato, mozzarella, arugula, prosciutto, parmigiano). Ingredients were quality and clearly fresh. The prosciutto was perfect and not too salty. The crust was good, charred well and chewy, although I wish it was less chewy. The middle of the pizza was rather soggy, making it difficult to eat. Still good nonetheless.
    – The cavatelli pasta (sausage, broccoli rabe, ricotta) was very good as well although the portion was small.
    – The truffle fries were great and probably my favorite part of the meal. Thin, crisp, not too oily. Well balanced flavor with a heavenly aroma.
    – The bruschetta was good as well but I don't know that I would order it again.
    – We ended our meal with tiramisu and cappuccinos which were both excellent.

    Service:
The staff here is something else….. The most eager and enthusiastic bunch I've ever seen. Our server was super nice but *extremely* chatty, it was almost overwhelming. The owner/manager as well. Welcoming guys but very, very chatty. Not necessarily bad but I thought it was a little much. I also noticed some disorganization among the staff but slack is given because they recently opened.

Overall, positive experience and will come again. Try it.

  7. I checked this place out based on its Yelp rating, and I agree with another Yelper's suspicion that the reviews could be inflated.  Despite that, here is my take:

Vulcano 081 has some serious competition in Rockville Centre.  Not just from all of the Rockville Centre restaurants you could choose from, but the two other brick oven pizza places (Nicks and Blue Moon) that are far better and more established than Vulcano.  Vulcano is a cool little place, serving wine and bottles of Italian beer, and features a small Italian menu of pasta, pizza, and appetizers.  The pizzas are 12 inch personal pies that will run you 12-15 dollars each.  The ingredients are fresh, and you can really taste the quality.  The dough is soft and chewy and has a nice char.  Their sauce has great flavor and is well seasoned.  So what's the issue?  Nicks and Blue Moon are just better at everything that this place does.  In addition to the salchichi pizza, my wife and I ordered an arugula salad, calamari and shrimp, and an order of meatballs.  The appetizers were quite good.  The salad had cucumber and pickled onions which made it interesting and was nicely dressed.  The calamari was good, not great, while the shrimp (2 pieces) were very tasty.  The meatballs (3) were pretty solid, and though small were served over a healthy portion of polenta and sauce.  If I was rating this place on the food alone, it would be at least 3 stars!  The price and the portion sizes however were surprising.  For 50 dollars in Italian food, I would expect more bang for my buck.  Afterwards, I was thinking about heading over to Gino's for a slice.  Listen, if you're in the mood for brick oven pizza in a modern fancy loungey type environment, then you won't be disappointed (until your check comes or if your show up hungry).  I would say head over to Nicks or Blue Moon if you're in the area though.  Your money will go a lot further.
