Warehouse Wines & Spirits

“I'm one of those cynical consumers that believes that anything in Manhattan is going to be more expensive.”

“I think wine is a safer bet here than liquors and for liquors, it's best to go a few block south to the classier and better stocked Astor.”

“A real warehouse, and the best price in the city for Champagne, they have the basics and some more elaborate ones.”

This store has for sure improved recently, but the staff is still awful. They basically throw your sh*t at you during check out. It's a full on soup man experience. I had stopped shopping here because of getting bad corked wine 3 times in a row. They still offer slightly better liquor prices than Astor, but the shopping experience and selection is far inferier. One thing that bothers me about this store is how so many employees will ask you if you need help 12x in a row in 2 minutes. NO I DON'T NEED HELP, CAN I PLEASE JUST LOOK AT STUFF AND BE LEFT ALONE TO SHOP MY GOD!!!!
The front area has a rack of sale wine and an area for sale liqueurs. Most of it is usually gross stuff like light or favored rum that no one wants anyway.

If you live in the area this place is decent, but it's usually hit or miss. They do accept credit and debit which is nice.

Decent selection here, although the service can be a bit terse at times. The prices aren't terrible and they're currently running a sale on soju branded shot glasses for only $0.50 a pop! Perfect for college kids (looking at you, NYU).

And of course, AC is a nice and very necessary condition for any liquor store

This place is great. They live up to their claims for having great deals: prices here are surprisingly low. It's one wine store where I don't find myself having to buy certain items or certain quantities in order to get a bargain. My favorite Louis Jadot Macon Village Chardonnay is $13.99 here before tax, and while I've seen it marked this low at one or two other wine stores, I typically see it priced between $17.99 and $21.99 at competing retailers.

I was helped today by a gentleman who was able to make some recommendations fitting my preferences for taste and price range. He was also able to describe in great detail every wine I asked about. Nothing is more disappointing to a novice wine drinker such as myself than walking into a wine store and encountering a staff unable to provide assistance. So far, this has not happened here.

A few of my favorites are unavailable here, but it happens. Their selection is still vast, in spite of this fact. I also wish they would carry a bigger selection of South African Chardonnay. Other than that, I definitely recommend this business!

UPDATE: They have new management and they are sold out of the affordable Cote Roties.

I'm NOT a fan of giving away my precious secrets, but, here goes…

This is my singular, most favorite wine store in all of NYC. I'm not a complete oenephile, but if ever accused, it is due to Warehouse Wines. They are unpretentious, over the top knowledgeable and can recommend to your taste.

There are two Trinidadian employees who somehow know how to pinpoint my palate. In 2012, I randomly stopped in and asked a staff person for a full-bodied, very complex, earthy red, with a lil' funk. He sold me this bottle of Cote Rotie for $15.00 !!!! If you are familiar with Cote Rotie you would understand the exclamation points. I had never tried this variety up to that point – and it soon became my favorite. I would keep going back and whomever helped me would say "OHHHHH, you know about IT".  IT meaning – there was a bad grape year, blah blah blah, a wine wholesaler from France had one contract with one store in NY and that was Warehouse Wines. He was trying to get rid of that Cote Rotie year. So they had about 6 cases. My fiance (now spouse) and I lived in Brooklyn, but we insisted on traveling to Manhattan for that bottle.

Fast forward to 2015, they still have a different bottle of Cote Rotie for about $40 per bottle, still MUCH less than normal Cote Roties. I'm sure they are not nearly as good as the infamous $200-500 bottles, but for us, we still love and appreciate that we are still able to get such a steal. We go less often now – usually special occasions – and it is ALWAYS worth it.

We now know to always ask for an introduction to a new esoteric wine and we are always floored. There is no BS or obnoxious hipster-ish eliticism in how they sell. They will just say something like. "I'll show you something that I am drinking now. This South African Syrah is amazing due to [x, y, z] . We only have 2 cases.  It is usually [x] amount and we are able to sell it for [y] amount until we finish it. If you want to try something exquisite for the price, I would recommend this. Trust me. I know my stuff. Try it and bring it back if you think I'm wrong".

Warehouse Wines is the reason I'm heading to Ampuis, France this summer, to stay in a French B&B on the hills of Cote Rotie, drive down through St. Joseph, Hermitage, and end in Provence.

I love Warehouse! They have a fantastic selection and everyone that works there is super nice and helpful. I'm a big wine drinker and I always come here for cheap and decent bottles of wine.

Moderately friendly staff, competitive pricing for the area (especially that Redbreast 12). This warehouse offers the best selection of brown liquor that we've found so far in New York, including some small batch bottles that were locked up in a glass display along a corner. No beer sold here, but a fair variety of sake in the expansive wine section.

Lapin and I came here to purchase some wine and tequila for a recipe. The staff was very friendly and helpful in helping us pick out a good dry white wine. The warehouse has a huge selection with price range for every budget. I actually spied a bottle of wine on clearance for $2.99 — how good it taste is another story. This is the spot to visit if you need to refill your liquor cabinet or have a dinner party to visit.

Warehouse Wines & Spirits is one of the cheapest places I know of in the city to buy your booze. The selection is decent, it's larger than the average win/liquor store in the city, and it's right by a subway station. I see a lot of complaints about the staff, while they aren't the friendliest I've never had an issue.
