I've been a long time fan of cafe zaiya's onigiri believing it to be among the best. However, the salmon onigiri I literally just ate blew cafe zaiya out of the playing field. The salmon onigiri was very fresh and instead of scattered as bits throughout the rice…was actually a satisfying layer inside. It was very delicious and I wolfed it down quickly.
The separate nigiri was so so enticing but I didn't give this time around. This to-go location inside the Fulton center is absolutely beautiful. I would enjoy a day just sitting here and people watching in the beautiful center. Can't wait to come back and indulge in all the fresh looking nigiri!
A small convenient store style (I.e. grab and to-go style) Japanese food place in Fulton center. That being called it is really convenient if you are commuting through Fulton center.
Food wise: very good variety of Japanese food including healthy light sushi box, sushi by items, sashimi box, rice ball with miso soup, and various warm bento boxes and dumplings. Plus soft drinks and Japanese yummy snacks.
I got tofu curry bento box with miso soup this time. I deeply enjoyed the curry bento box (You can never go wrong getting a curry over rice for a filling meal!), but the miso soup was a bit watery (lack of flavor).
Overall, great location, great convenience, good flavor and fair price (the bento box is about $10).
Wasabi is the McDonald's of Sushi…but not as good as McDonald's, in my opinion.
It's really 2-Stars if you compare it to a true sushi restaurant, but I'm giving it 3-Stars mainly for the convenience factor.
I think it's better than "convenience store" or "supermarket" sushi, but not as good as sushi from a restaurant. It's nothing spectacular, but if you're in a hurry or need a quick sushi fix, then Wasabi is a decent option. I just think it's pretty basic and nothing to write home about.
Price-wise, Wasabi is not that much cheaper than restaurant sushi like Nu Sushi and Taste of Tokyo that charge $9.50 for a two roll combo. I bought 3 sushi pieces and 1 two-piece roll at Wasabi for $6.25, (all of which, isn't as much food), and the slight savings doesn't compensate for the lower quality you get, in my opinion.
But like I said, if you're in a hurry, or on your way in, or out of the Fulton Street Subway Station, then this is a fair option. It's very clean, fast and efficient, just don't expect anything remarkable from a sushi quality perspective.
I go on and off of a low carb/ keto diet and this place is a great addition to my lunch meal rotation! You can get a poke salad bowl in either salmon or tuna or mix and match nigiris. They also have some hot boxed meals like japanese curry, katsu, and terriyaki. I love how this quick grab and go set up. This is so convenient and perfect for me to grab something really quickly between meetings.
Please don't confuse this or try to compare it with a high end sushi restaurant or even a mid-end sit down sushi restaurant, this is not that and it's definitely not trying to be that. You have to take it for what is it, think convenient store of sushi and japanese bowls. Appreciate it for what it is, y'all!
I wasn't expecting much from a pre-made quick sushi joint, but I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and delicious it was. Is it -as- fresh and delicious as a nice sit-down sushi restaurant where it's made to order? No. But it's WAY better than any convenience store sushi I've ever had. The piece come individually wrapped and tasted fresh and flavorful. I had two pieces of shrimp (ebi) and two pieces of crab (kani) salad, plus one salmon rice ball (onigiri) and a chicken teriyaki rice ball. Everything I ate was quite yummy and very filling.
This is definitely a place I would come to again. I'd like to try some of their other pieces, as well as the warm bento bowls they offer.
All in all, this is a great spot to pick up a quick snack especially considering how hard it is to find good sushi in the FiDi area.
This place is so great to have in the area.
I was able to create my own bento box by selecting individual sushi, it is reasonably priced and delicious.
There were not enough affordable sushi places in the area. I can't wait for the WTC location to open since that will be closer to my office.
Only 4 stars because I feel like there isn't much variety in their current sushi/sashimi sets. Most seem to be salmon based.
This place is very convenient, reasonable, and ok taste!!! I will say the hot food section really made this place so much better to me. I like sushi but I like to sit down to a whole roll. However, I do see the appeal of individual wrap pieces.
This place is clean with a decent selection of ready made sushi, soup, bento boxes, and drinks.I work close and will probably be back.
As far as to go sushi goes this place is awesome!!! Everything looks fresh and the place looks neat and clean. I was in awe of all of the neatly made boxes of sushi.
I chose a box of tuna, crab meat and salmon over rice $9.95. I also got two spicy tuna over rice. 2 for $3.50. I am stuffed! Everything tastes fresh and delicious.
I saw they also had cooked boxes of food with katsu and even curry. I will definitely be back and try them all!!
