Wasan Brooklyn
“It's nice to see that between this place and Katsuei, park slope is getting some legit japanese restaurants.”
“I love Wasan's, moved to the neighborhood last year and was initially sad that there were no authentic Asian places in the area, but one day popped in Wasan's and it is a gem.”
“For so many years we had to fall back on Taro and Geido, so Wasan is a very welcome addition.”

Unassuming, authentic Wasan has beckoned me in for awhile. It sits on Bergen off Fifth. In a spot often overlooked. A $13 brunch/lunch set is a delicious deal.
Ate:
Salmon saikyo
Miso
Tomato croquette
Brown rice $1 extra
Mini cabbage
A lovely lunch set. The tomato croquette was the surprise- Japanese potato salad wrapped in tomatoes & fried within batter. Quiet, value, delicious for brunch/ lunch.
Simply amazing and authentic Japanese restaurant tucked away in Park Slope. There's a Wasan in East Village, but the Brooklyn location is fairly new and empty (at least for brunch) whenever I walk by.
I ordered the weekly fish special with mackerel, and it was a substantial amount of food for $16 (usually $15, but I opted for brown rice vs. white). My fiance had the tonkatsu ramen and 2 buns for $15, which is kind of a steal. Ramen alone is usually $15+ at fancy-pants Manhattan joints. The buns were incredible! The eel & avocado was my favorite. We also got the unagi pie, and it did not disappoint.
Wasan may not generate as much buzz as other Japanese restaurants in the area, but it's up there with the best of them and has a truly unique and decently-priced menu at that. Our server was so sweet and friendly and even offered us tea at the end of the meal.
To start, Wasan has an extensive selection of sakes with an informative menu noting the type of sake and describing some of the flavors. You can buy a shot, a carafe (the equivalent of about four shots), or a bottle. I had the Shintaro sake which has hints of cantaloupe.
For dinner, I had the Shoyu ramen which has a broth based with pork and soy. The broth was delicious. It had a great balance of saltiness and savoriness. The noodles were cooked well too.
There was only one waitress, yet her service was very good. She was attentive and the food was served quick. I disliked the bathrooms. There was only one bathroom stall for all customers. The sink was small, and the faucet was low which made it inconvenient to wash my hands.
