  1. This place is well situated at the end of the road and the center of this small beach community. Super wonderful coffee and scrumptious baked goods. The perfect way to Start and day, but especially good for Bungalow Day. Tanked up on Black Rhino ( a dark roasted blend) and the house speciality Breakfast blend, we are armed for the day. Super fresh baked goods as well. Honey had a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel. I had a Carmel apple pastry that was amazing. Love the cool but comfortable throw back in time decor. Definitely try this one out if your in the area.

  2. Stopped by this little Highlands joint on my way from Red Bank to the lighthouse at Sandy Hook. I remembered passing it back when I lived in the area & thinking the name was cute (apparently it's just the name of the street its on?!), so I thought I'd check it out while I was nearby.

The Water Witch is pretty cute inside, with eclectic & artsy decor & an overall sort of beach-town feel. I love the bumper sticker on the register that says, "Highlands, NJ: We're not the Hamptons & we don't want to be." You get the feeling that the Water Witch really belongs to the locals & prides itself on that.

There were two gruff old guys sitting at the bar, & I felt sort of weird – like non-locals never go in or something, like I wasn't supposed to be there? But the girl at the register was friendly, & the soy latte she made me was second to none. Seriously, it was one of the best I've had in a damn long time, & it wasn't too expensive, either. I think it was $3? Sadly, my croissant was totally stale – waste of money, I threw it away immediately – & the atmosphere felt a little bit inhospitable. My drink was put in a to-go cup & my pastry was bagged, under the assumption that I wasn't staying (I had been planning to, actually). I just felt sort of weird staying, so I took off.

I don't live in this area anymore, so I probably won't have opportunity to return to the Water Witch, but if I were still nearby, I'd probably try to opt out. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any other coffee shops within a 15-mile radius!

  3. The water witch coffee shop is a very pleasant little place. It has been here for only a couple of years now. They have all sorts of let's say oddity on the walls. A miss match clusters of settings here and there. No two alike. They do make all the new array of the new foo foo coffee concoction that is the latest craze. The people working here are quite nice one had a little tude but she got my coffee and bagel.
