  1. In my area of New Jersey, you'll find tons of "all you can eat" buffet places, and usually they promise quite a deal.  For less than $15, you can gorge yourself until you're ready to explode with a wide variety of foods and desserts, so why not go to one?  Well, usually it's because the food is pretty bland or low quality.  That means when I find a buffet place I like, they generally get my repeat business, and Wei's counts as one of them.

Wei's is located in a small strip mall that includes a Strauss Auto, a laundromat, a 99 cent store, nail salon and a liquor store (there's more but those are the ones that stand out in my mind right now).  The interior is fairly standard for this type of restaurant.  A mix of booths and tables with chairs and each table has salt, pepper, soy sauce and a bunch of napkins to use.  The buffet area is off to the right, and beyond that is another room in the back you can rent for parties.  They have a hibachi grill that was once used every weekend, but is now only used by special requests for events.

The food layout starts from cold to hot food.  The first area has cold salad components (lettuce, cucumber etc.) with tuna salad, cole slaw etc. along with desserts such as small cakes and cookies.  As the tables go along you get everything from soups to stir fries to pizza.  I generally opt for the vegetable components of their stir fries, and they're always quite flavorful.  Their meats are wonderfully tasty.  The meatloaf is insanely good, and I swear it's partly composed of Chinese style roast pork.  I also love their crab cakes which are moist and tasty.  They also have an assortment of beautifully crafted sushi rolls which are a step beyond the standard california rolls and salmon rolls found in other buffets.

Service is a bit uneven.  Sometimes it's ultra-enthusiastic and quick, other times it's like "Hello?  Anyone there?" so it kind of evens out, but that would be my biggest gripe.

Note: you can get a card when going to Wei's.  After 8 straight meals you'll get a free meal (just make sure to get the card stamped!).

When I'm in the Roselle area, this is one of my top ten choices of eateries, I recommend it.

  2. I am not a huge fan of buffets but we needed something close by. It was an usually warm day in February so the place was packed. There was some confusion as to where to seat us. We followed the host to our table but then she realized the table she brought us to was dirty. There was a clean open table but apparently that was taken. So we hovered while they cleaned up. It happens.

I checked in and got an offer but was told to print it out. The girl who told me this barely spoke english so maybe she did not understand how a check-in offer worked. I asked someone else and she said she'll check with a manager but she never came back. Don't advertise something if you have no intentions of following through. So from the start crappy service, even for a buffet.

The food was okay. As far as buffets go, I've had better. They had what you normally find at buffets and for additional money you can add crab legs.

Thankfully the price matched the value. Next time I need something in the area, I'll bypass this place.

  3. Decent all you can eat Chinese buffet. Standard food-Chinese entrees, cooked sushi rolls, french fries, salad, carrot cake. Everything was okay-nothing stood out but for $8.99 for lunch (including drink) you can't go wrong.

  4. I went here for a surprise baby shower for my cousin. The place was your typical Chinese buffet, but not as much selection as other Chinese buffets I've been to. Filipinos just love their Chinese buffets, man. The party room was spacious, and the waiters/waitresses were very helpful. The food was meh. I even had the hibachi and it was just okay. The best thing was probably the ice cream lol. That's sad to say, but since I was only visiting Jersey for the party, I know I will never be back at this buffet.
