Okay, first of all, If you're not a White Castle type of person, it's not gonna matter what I say.
Secondly, if you ARE a White Castle type of person, you should listen closely.
This White Castle location serves the best food of any location, PERIOD. I have no idea why this is, but I've just resigned myself to living with this fact.
I took off a star because you get served MUCH attitude by the employees if you stand there hemming and hawing over the menu, but I understand their pain. It's White Castle, for cryin' out loud. Side note: their recent decision to start calling the burgers sliders/slyders, is womp womp.
For a fatty good time, I'd recommend the double cheese burgers, and chocolate shake. *burp*
I happen to be passing by and I had this craving for White Castle burgers. You see I grew up on them. Having a White Castle down the street from my old house.
It's been many, many years since I had (aka nickname a rat burger.) I say this with lots of love. My favorite is the original burger no cheese on them, onion rings and an orange soda. For some strange reason I still can't eat a lot of these things.
From my 1st bite it brought back so many fond memories.White Castle burgers are very tasty. You see they are steamed with onions, and the buns are on top of the burgers. These burgers are slider size, but pack a big punch especially if you down a lot of them. They are also know for making good fresh coffee. Now I see they sell keurig k-cups. The staff is very friendly. I ate there and found the place to be very clean and neat. If u choose to eat in there is a free parking lot.
WC has a drive thru window which is open late. Some WC's are open 24 hours.
The menu has changed over the years with many new and interesting items added like a srirache chicken sandwich and Waffle chicken sandwich w/ bacon, and a breakfast menu.
It was great sampling the burgers from my childhood. ( I also have a recipe for stuffing made from these burgers…..It's very unique.)
I would definitely recommend trying this place at least once.
This White Castle never closes.
Due this White Castle's admittedly-shady location and lack of seating (they only have counter seating, and little of it), I suggest daytime visits.
Unless you're a vegetarian, there's no reason you shouldn't come here. You're here for their sliders, and all their self-contained goodness. For the first time, I tried one of the slider variants – the cheeseburger slider – which unfortunately wasn't very good, as the cheese overpowers the meat. Also for the first time, I had their onion rings, which weren't bad at all.
Like a Thai hooker, White Castle is cheap yet alluring depending on what you're on. At Newark on a layover? Take a cab to this White Castle, and use that drive-thru!
C'mon now, it's White Castle. It's small cheap sliders, crinkle cut fries, and soda. You can only go wrong if you're expectations are inappropriately set like some douchebag that has no clue what you're getting into.
Considering I was hungover from a wedding from the night before, driving down the NJ Turnpike back to DC, this was the cure, and it powered what would be 6 more hours of driving hell.
I'd call that a win folks.
***I have not been to a White Castle in a long time, but I do not remember them being this bad; the sliders were really greasy and thus kind of disgusting (I personally feel the quality and preparation here is noticeably worse the ones you can prepare yourself from your grocery store's freezer aisle); the crinkle cut fries were not that hot, very limp and translucent from all the grease; this store is located in a rather rundown area of Newark and features two negatives that you might not experience at most other White Castle locations (the restaurant's dining room reeked of cigarette smoke and panhandling occurs inside the restaurant); service was pleasant though I felt like it was hard to communicate with the employees through the thick and potentially needed security glass separating the cashiers/kitchen from guests in the dining area***
Like almost all standalone fast food restaurants, this White Castle has its own free parking lot and it is easy finding an open space.
