Whole Foods Market

“The lines move fairly quickly considering on the truck loads of people that travel through and the food stuffs are usually accessible.”

“I have to say that the line here goes MUCH faster than the lines at the Columbus Circle or 7th Avenue Whole Foods.”

“Ok, after 100+ reviews of this place, I don't have much new to add, but I do LOVE the color coded check-out system!”

  1. Whole Foods is my happy place. I love the one on Houston Street, my home location. It's well organized and filled with everything I need to live my best life. If you're a Whole Foods fan like me, I just gotta say it — the Union Square location is a disappointment.

Sure, it has everything you need, but finding it? Well, it's a challenge. The whole ground floor is bakery, salad bar, prepared foods, ETC., so if you're actually here to grocery shop, you're sent down to the basement. I find the layout really unintuitive, with the home section smack in the middle of the food, and the comparatively small frozen food section is seriously lacking.

  2. Hm. So, I get that it's NYC, but oh my geezus.  This place is so hard to navigate bc it's so cramped.  Yes, they have decent variety, but it's hardly worth going to bc it's so stressful being there.  It's also not entirely clear where you should go when you have your cart and need to switch floors.  There is an elevator, but it can fit one cart and shopper comfortably.  I'm pretty small, and even I felt claustrophobic when someone else hopped on the elevator with me and my cart.  To be honest, I didn't even end up buying anything when I came bc I got so frustrated being there and not being able to move throughout the store.  PLUS the line to purchase was disgustingly long.  Why all of the registers weren't open/why they don't schedule enough people to man the floor, I'm not sure.

I'm kind of a grocery store snob after working in one for a few years I suppose. This is all for the better probably…I'm too poor for Whole Foods anyways O.o

  3. This is located in the very convenient location. Accessible by the subway which is very nice.
It's not large and a little crowded; however, you will be able to find good products/foods.
The staff is nice and friendly.

  4. No question this Whole Foods Market gets crazy and crowded throughout the day and night. I came here several times mostly for their salad bar. Prices as expected are super high, but I'm okay with that as long as I can eat healthily when possible.

There is a dedicated register toward the back part of the first floor for one-item only purchases. Otherwise, you'll stand in one of many different colored lines and watch the monitor for the next available cashier.

I did not get up to the second level where the seating is located, but I'm sure that fills up fast in a hurry as well.

  5. Have frequented this wholefoods since it's inception and although the crowds and lines can be unnerving, I still enjoy visiting to grab a bite or getting a few items that you can't find anywhere else.

It's one of the few WFM that has three floors, one dedicated solely for munching on food yet they also sell coffee and juices on that floor with a small bathroom which almost always has a long line.

Regardless of the higher price range for the items sold here, I enjoy strolling through the aisles and always leave with a bag full of goodies.

  6. I've been here many times, and have never bought anything from the store. And that's always because of the ridiculous lines. True, they've been trying to make strides to make the lines more bearable – there are way more lines, and they have a dedicated register toward the back left of the first floor for people who just want to buy one item. But even that line was like 10 deep.

That said, they have just about everything in this WFM, you just have to be patient and look for it. The first floor and basement floors are pretty expansive.

Let's get down to brass tacks here – the real reason you stop by is to use the bathroom upstairs. There's also a cafe. And large windows where you can people watch Union Square in the comfort of air conditioning. But yeah, you're here for the free bathroom.

  7. Walking around the area, we decided to check out this Whole Foods location.

I'm a fan of Whole Foods but this location is so crowded there is barely room to move. Lines were long, even with all the registers open. I didn't think we came at a prime time, but maybe this Whole Food's is always busy? They do offer lots of ready to eat items, which I've always liked about Whole Foods. There were some items in the salad bar that looked like they needed to be replaced. It's still nice to have a WF's at this location, it's always great to have options.

  8. It felt good to visit Whole Foods after my days of shopping here in my early twenties. But I digress.

This location is super crowded due to it's location so I suggest you get here early. I came around 11 am but the line was still long as hell. I stopped in for the breakfast selection of hot food but unfortunately, they had switched to lunch already. Thus, there was only five breakfast items to choose from; scrambled tofu, scrambled egg whites, scrambled eggs, home fries, and spinach mixed with squash.

The home fries didn't taste like it me. Instead, it tasted like lightly browned potatoes with sauteed green, yellow and red peppers. It was excellent though. The eggs however, yikes! They were so dry. Maybe my idea of scrambled is different than most but jesus christ, the eggs were not soft at all. I'll past next time. Oh, I also had fresh fruit which was good.

My total came up to $12 something but I didn't really expect much else. It's Whole Foods after all, and the quality you get is well-worth the price. There's also seats upstairs to enjoy your food on the premises. It's loud b/c, again, it's crowded but I don't mind.
