The jerk chicken here is awesome. So much great flavor and if you get it with the rice and peas and the fried plantains you can have a delicious lunch and enough leftovers for a second full meal. The service is, how do I put this, unpredictable. Sometimes friendly, sometimes not. If the lady who works the counter says they are out if an item, try a little bit of friendly pleading; she might just "discover" some in the back.
I tried their jerk chicken and curry goat. It was not bad – very average overall. However, the rice and peas that accompanied both dishes were definitely a little old. As a result, they were a little dry and hard. The plantains also were a little old. They were probably made in the morning.
The jerk chicken meat though was pretty tender and juicy, but not spicy at all. I prefer it spicier, but it was not necessarily a bad thing – just an observation. The curry goat meat was also flavorful and moist. The only thing is that the meat was mostly bone. There are much better Jamaican places, but for now, this is the only one in this neighborhood.
Tender and flavorful chicken. Super generous portions at a reasonable price. The staff was not particularly friendly, but they weren't rude either. Don't take it personal, its just a quick grab and go type meal.
I'll be back.
I'm not a very big connoisseur on caribbean food in general but I've been wanting to try this place for almost 2 years. Came here tonight after class to order the famous jerk chicken with rice and beans. The chicken was so moist! It fell off the bones when bitten into. Don't get me started on the spices of sauce and chicken. It's a taste I'm not very familiar with but the sauce was deeeelicious. Kinda spicy just the way I like it. A small dinner was 8.50 which for all that food was worth the price. Like everyone has said, this place is super tiny so It's more of a "take out" place. It's good eats.
This place is a take out only hole-in-the-wall situated on Park Ave just past the point where the Upper East Side seems to end.
Looking for a nice atmosphere? Sorry. Friendly staff? A swing and a miss.
Healthy food? Lol, get outta here!
This place only serves up legit Caribbean food without all the frills. Get the jerk chicken with extra jerk sauce and a side of plantains. Trust me. If you need a guide on what size to get then I recommend a small as the portions here are gigantic.
My go-to spot whenever I might be craving some delicious island food.
This is a solid three star place. I realize it isn't generous, but it's appropriate. They were sold out of a bunch of things by dinner time, but the jerk chicken with rice was pretty tasty. The chicken was spiced well with sweet/smoky sauce. Portion size was commensurate to the $10 price. Delivery was also really speedy.
Lunch specials until 2 pm. Overall the food is good. Tried the oxtail and wish there was more meat. The sauce was delicious.
Rice and peas were tasty and the jerk chicken was moist and juicy. Cabbage/carrot slaw was good, too and for $6.50, they really fill up the little takeout container! It may look small but it comes packed with food– a lot of rice on the bottom, 3 pieces of chicken on top, and a scoop of cabbage. Could've used more jerk sauce and although good, it wasn't quite as tasty or heavily spiced as I expected. A perfectly decent & cheap meal for the neighborhood though!
