Decided to stop in for food with my GF and neither of us could hear each other the entire time. I understand the Bad Boy Reunion was happening and we were an hour or so away from club time but the DJ should know volume control enough for people to actually want to mingle and hold a convo. Instead we went to buy drinks somewhere more chill with music at an acceptable level. Food was okay, nothing mindblowing. I had high hopes for Woodland because I have come here for the club experience and had a good time. I would come back for bar, club scene but never again for food.
My main girls and I were headed to Sugarcane but they had a two hour wait so we decided to check out Woodland which was two doors down. Great place to stumble upon!
It was a Saturday night, we didn't have a reservation but we were still sat right away surprisingly. It wasn't overcrowded but it was full. The server was obviously overwhelmed with his tables but he tried to accommodate us. We shared the Mac & Blue Cheese appetizer and it was too good. I ordered a mimosa with chicken and waffles and both were excellent. The chicken was very well seasoned and mixed with the waffle, it just melted in my mouth. And I wasn't going to order it because I wanted chicken with the bone and it was 3 boneless thighs. The mimosa had much more champagne than OJ….just how I like it. I do have the mention that the music was on point as well.
Of course we all tried each others food and I enjoyed the lil tastes of the pan seared salmon and the lamb chops the girls had. The only complaint was that there was more fat on the lamb chops than meat for a $28 meal.
All of a sudden while we were eating we heard music, saw security at the steps, and saw people going up and down the stairs. I asked the busboy what's up with downstairs and he said at 11 the club opens on the lower level. Perfect because we were just discussing where we would go next.
There was a $3 mandatory coat check but since I was parked right in the front, I took our coats to the car. The layout of the lounge downstairs was very nice but the drinks were priced wayyyyy up from upstairs and they didn't even offer everything like upstairs. The bar was very limited….not cool.
When I went to the bathroom, I also saw that they have a private party room.
This is the perfect place for a date night with the boo. Good food, great ambiance, then you can go downstairs, buss a wine on your boo, and work off the meal!
This was the kick off to my birthday celebration, and it was a good start.
I have passed by this place too many times to count and I am happy that I finally stopped by.
I would say that the best part about this place was the atmosphere, it's a large place and its very "business casual" not too up there on the scale but wouldn't come in wear sweats either.
The service for the most part was good, The women that took our drink order, Ellen? maybe she was lovely, upbeat and on top of things. Our actually server left much to be desired…
She had the driest personality I have met in a while and she seemed unsure of the menu. She also seemed like she was annoyed by the fact she was even at work and had this sarcastic undertone to everything.
The young lady who was shadowing her for the evening was MUCH MUCH MUCH better, she was lively and just had a wonderful personality, she probably could have trained our server on personality.
The food…
a resounding eh…
I ordered the salmon burger and it was dry and did not have much flavor. My sister ordered the oxtail soup, she said it was ok, but thought she ordered a soup and it is not a soup. It is oxtail over rice with a light sauce. Someone else ordered the stake medium rare and got it well done. He did not feel like arguing or waiting for another one so he just tried to eat it. He said it was gross.
So as far as the food 1 star…. BARELY
For dessert we decided to order one of everything, that was probably the best part of the whole experience. The dessert was basically the saving grace of this evening. We all left with a smile on our face. I may give this place another try but I also would not be upset if I never had to eat here again.
We made reservations since we had a show to catch at Barclays reservations was for 8 we arrived 20 minutes early no problems being seated.
Once seated waitress took some time to come by she finally arrived we ordered drinks & appetizers , 20 minutes later we still had no drinks or apps I really don't understand why? The place was not packed … Drinks I wanted to try the Rum punch she told me they were out ? How do u run out ?? Anyways I got a Rosemary's passion instead drink not bad good taste , small glass not much in this.
My Company had a Grey goose martini straight they made it wrong got a dirty one instead Eeuu taste wise there is no comparison!! We had the waitress change it & still by this time we didn't even have our appetizers.
Finally our appetizers arrived we had the Baby back ribs & Fried Calamari.
The Mahogany glazed ribs were very good , meat was very tender falls off the bone nice tasting sauce , cabbage slaw was ok.
Good Calamari with an interesting jerk aioli sauce not bad nice kick to the sauce.
Appetizers took over 30 minutes to come out our main dishes probably came out maybe 5 minutes after we got our appetizers we were like what the ?? & I am really not even exaggerating about the time with this.
I am not a fan of food being thrown at me so quickly specially after it beginning so slow doesn't make much sense.
Main dishes I tried the Chicken & waffles I must say the Fried chicken was delicious chicken was juicy very flavorful ,delicious waffle with two sauces the syrup one was good sweet, the other wasn't some sort of BBQ taste & spicy combo not sure didn't like it taste wise.
My company had the Salmon good piece of fish cooked well with asparagus not bad.
As for the place itself nice size with a hipster feel & decor to it with reasonable food prices.
Service was painfully slow now who do U blame for this ? The restaurant for not having enough people working or the waitress ? Sorry this one goes to the restaurant in my opinion there's only so much the wait staff can do although the place was not crowded there were plenty of people there.
The food saved this place from a 2 star review granted service was very slow everything we tried was very good.
DAMN DENZYL BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH ANOTHER BRUNCH REVIEW!?!?!?
Why yes, yes I am. To start it off may I say this one might be high on the list for turn up brunches!
Came here for a birthday party for a large number of people so you already know the turn up potential was high. We were put in a back room to experience our private turn up and boy did we. With the bottomless function fully operational here and probably one of the best DJs I've had the opportunity to brunch with, we were fully lit.
For my meal I had the chicken and regular waffles (YES RED VELVET IS AVAILABLE!). I definitely enjoyed the chipotle maple syrup as I absolutely hate the tabasco version that most venues are accustomed to.
Definitely will be back here to turn up even harder than I did before!
As a lot of other reviews stated, this place is… good. But it's not great. It SHOULD be great, but it's not.
We came in on ~Cinco de Mayo~ (and also the day of the Bieber concert at Barclay's). So of course, it was loud and busy. We came in a little before 6 and were able to get a table easily. I had high hopes walking in – they had a special for margaritas, the space is huge and they have a lot of Windows letting natural light in. There's a lot of exposed brick and wood. The bar is a good size, and they have a projector screen for sports things.
It started off alright, though they did give us the wrong menu at first. Service wasn't too bad in the beginning. We ordered our guava margaritas, and they were soon followed by two complimentary margaritas. Woo!
As the night went on, though.. Sheesh. Service just seemed to get slower and slower. It's such a tease to have your server walk past you several times and not get his attention. They also had a DJ playing what seemed to be his Cinco De Mayo playlist, and he threw in some Biebs to cater to the crowd. It can definitely be a fun time, especially if you drink enough of those margaritas.
Food. We weren't too crazy about any of the entrees, so we went with sharing apps (and dessert):
– Herb Crusted Mac & Cheese: pretty good. Served in a cast iron skillet, so it stayed warm and it was definitely cheesy.
– Spinach Artichoke Dip: I loved the dip, but I wish that it had more than 5 pieces of bread. By the time we finished the bread, we still had about half the dip left.
– Ribs: alright, but I've had better. I wasn't a fan of the slaw that was served it. The meat was tender and falling off the bone. They served it with all of its juices, though I'm not sure that I liked that.
– Creme Brûlée: small and served with blueberries and strawberries on top. The fruit was fresh and went well with the Creme brûlée, but I would've preferred them on the side. One of my favorite parts of having Creme brûlée is cracking that layer of sugar on top. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a crack. It could've also been served warmer. Meh.
Woodland has some of the best steak, mashed potatoes and vegetables that I have ever tasted! The ambiance is warm and friendly and the waiters and waitresses are attentive! This place is easily accessible in downtown Brooklyn near the Barclays Center. Last night I had the salmon and it was wonderful!
Happening spot for a Friday night. Not a fan of the shady bartender practices. I ordered $8 glass of champagne (I purposely picked the cheapest thing on the menu), and he charged me for something else. I asked him about this, saying I ordered the champagne and he pointed to the menu showing me that he poured me an $11 glass of sparkling wine anyway. Um, okay. That's not what I ordered… thanks for ripping me off.
If you're looking for loud club music, this is a good spot for the early 20s crowd looking to go clubbing afterward. Otherwise, the music is blasting so loudly, it's impossible to hear anyone. High prices. Chicken and waffles ($18) were decent, and the portion was huge. Service was otherwise fine when we sat at a table.
