Have only been here for the drinks but the service is great! The place is relatively quiet even when it's crowded which is nice and the bartender is really friendly and knows his drinks. Be careful though – they're frequently closed for private events so best to call beforehand if you're heading over and not already in the area.
Came for Restaurant Week – $30 for three courses. We had just walked across the Brooklyn Bridge from downtown Brooklyn, were hot, flushed and wanting a cool place to relax/eat and the sign telling of the deal outside this attractive building seemed ideal. We quickly walked inside this tasteful, beautifully air conditioned restaurant at noon on a Thursday.
The crowd was mostly business workers on their lunch breaks talking office stuff with briefcases and pens flashing. Besides us though there were a few other tourist-filled tables. It was a fun, chill mix.
The waitstaff was excellent – on-point but unobtrusive. Friendly and helpful.
Due to the Restaurant Week deal we ordered off the special menu, but it was all delicious. I had the gazpacho (surprising and delicious – it was actually spicy which I enjoyed), the chicken with salad (nothing outrageously good, but it was still tasty) and chocolate mousse for dessert (which I hardly ate – so full, but it was v. good). There was also a collection of truly delicious breads to accompany the meal. The Restaurant Week deal also included your choice of tea or coffee. I got the tea iced and it was good.
I would go again, but like someone else wrote, this place is not a destination restaurant, but if you're in the area it is definitely worth your time. Gorgeous building, classy environs, delicious, competent food and a knowledgeable staff. Yep.
The sign on the restaurant door showed that the health department had not found everything in order…. It was not my choice so we ventured into the cafeteria looking diner. It was s step into the old New York as well as into the "diner" style dining. Second warning – not a diner person…..
The staff was friendly and the service swift and New York. We all had some standard fare and my dish was the pasta. I asked for a change and the waiter was very accommodating. Pasta was cooked al dents to my liking and the portion large.
Nice spot and lots of history.
I just came here for a networking event so I can't comment on their regular menu. When I first walked in, the host was a bit confused when I asked him where the event was. After I asked the second time, he led me to a back room. This literally was the back room–the bar from the main dining area wrapped around, there were comfy chairs, a couch, and a coffee table ladened with appetizers. It was quite cozy and private; I loved being separated from the diners and customers in the main room. The appetizers were delicious, too. I had a great first impression of the restaurant from this one experience, so I would come back again.
On a recent Monday, my co-workers and I stepped through the historic Woolworth Tower and into a perfect fusion of old and new, downtown style and New York.
I ordered the clam linguine which was generously sized and enough for two. Overall, I found the food to be mild tasting with subtle flavors, but completely satisfying.
The place was clean, service was excellent. Onion soup was so-so; tepid and the au gratin had not been in the broiler long enough so it just started to melt but not fully when they served the soup. I could hear myself think and you did not hear every word of the people next to you which was nice. The bar looked like a decent option for the end of the day drink so I will come back.
Met a friend from school here for dinner a few months back. I had passed this place a few times after work and always wanted to try it and thought we'd give it a shot. We arrived to find that a private party was under way but was encouraged to stay and dine in the back. I was escorted to the back to find a waiter and a few others eagerly setting out tables and chairs…most of which were already set. I had the mussels. Loved it. Then we threw down on some sides mashed potatoes, tater tots (like we need more carbs), the spinach (for roughage) and shared a salad to lessen the guilt.
I'm sure we had some kind of dessert. It's the rules you know. I plate 2 forks. And I get to eat the most!
Anyway, we both loved our food. Great gals night out. I thought the waitress did not bother us too much. We could have hung all night. Appears to be a favorite after work spot because the bar was quite crowded for those who dared to venture to the back. A few guys checking us out. Not bad for married chicks I'd say. Give it shot. I think you'd like it.
