Wowfulls

“I'm from out of town and have been dreaming of going back to Smorgasburg to get another one of these for days now.”

“I gave this four stars because the gai dan jai is a little too dense in the middle and it's only there on the weekends.”

“We had the original – vanilla waffle with huge scoop of vanilla ice cream, strawberries, two pocky sticks and your choice of syrup on top.”

  1. lol, get in line early, cuz they run out of options.

by 4 pm on saturday, the choices are pretty much dictated. honestly, this is really just eating for the IG. there's not much ice cream in the cone, the toppings are cool and the cone is….forgettable.

dont judge a food by its photo. or by how long the line is.

  2. Ordered the green tea flavor wowfulls. It is amazing!!..its green tea ice cream is amazing that has strong green tea/matcha flavor to it. wowfulls around the ice cream is crispy and tasty

Usually has a long line, we wait it for 25 minutes for it

  3. HK waffle cones are my favorite way to serve ice cream. They make their waffles very crispy on top but very soft and airy inside each puff. I got the green tea ice cream which was creamy and delicious. You get to choose between the strawberry or green tea pocky (I got the strawberry one). I also got the strawberries on top which were sweet and fresh and not tart along with a drizzle of green tea sauce and chopped up fruity pebbles. The line was long but well worth the wait!

  4. Wowfulls puts the waffle back in waffle cone! I definitely recommend wowfully for dessert.

They serve up original or green tea waffles in a cup with ice cream and toppings. The waffle is warped inside the cup, so the top of the waffle is light and crispy while the bottom soaks up the melted ice cream and toppings.

Wowfulls has one of the bigger teams at Smorgasborg, so the line moves at a fair pace despite it also being one of the longer lines.

  5. Concept of the ice cream is great. I love these waffles in general but it I was expecting something more. Don't get me wrong it was good, the crazy vanilla flavor was colorful and tasted like vanilla bean and the waffles were made well with a light crisp. But I don't know if I would pay that much for it, especially with everything else around at Smorgasburg. The line isn't bad and the service was good.

  6. The only food stand with the longest line at Smorgasburg and I think it's because of the new and trendy factor appeal. But on a hot sunny day, how can you resist something that doesn't have ice cream in it? I'm sure that was what everyone was thinking. I first heard about this twist on gai daan jai (aka Hong Kong style or mini egg waffles) via Eater and it was making waves in the West Coast. Quickly, the trend caught on in the East Coast and here we have Wowfulls. I love gai daan jai and of course, ice cream, and the mash-up of the two was quite mind-blowing for me. But sometimes concept and taste don't exactly work well together and unfortunately, Wowful fell into that trap. It is very Instagram-worthy because presentation-wise, it looks like a masterpiece no matter which filter you use. Maybe I'll give them 4 stars for that.   Taste-wise, it was a little underwhelming.  I think the problem was that there was just too much gai daan jai and not much ice cream. Because the ice cream was melting so fast, I immediately devoured that part first before I even got to the gai daan jai.   By the time I got to the gai daan jai, I was pretty much done. I didn't feel like eating the rest of it and sadly had to toss it out.  The gai daan jai itself wasn't the best either. It didn't have the flavor I was expecting. I think the ones in the Chinatown stalls tastes better.  For $9 for the special creation, they're making a ton especially for the very simple ingredients. And they don't even make their own ice cream.

  7. Tried this at Governor's Ball on a hot day and it was exactly what I needed. Got the original gai dan jai with chocolate ice cream and fresh strawberries. Was a bit hesitant at first because I was afraid it might be too sweet, but the egg waffles balance so well with the ice cream and strawberries, a mixture of warm and cold and plain and sweet. The portion was perfect, not too much for one person to finish, especially if you're hungry for a snack. It's a really simple idea with a creative presentation, with the sprinkles and pocky as wonderful additions. A must try!

  8. I was pleasantly surprised by Wowfulls – I'll admit that I got sucked into the Instagram hype but for the most part, this place lived up to the praise.

Wowfulls is at Smorgasburg both Saturday (Williamsburg) and Sunday (Prospect Park). The line does get long at times however it moves pretty fast.

For $9, you get your choice of either original or matcha green tea egg waffles, your choice of ice cream (vanilla, crazy vanilla aka vanilla with food coloring, strawberry, or green tea). They then add on toppings and drizzle, both of which can be customized. I went for the "green tea" creation which has white chocolate, mochi, and green tea pocky. I had it with strawberry ice cream and condensed milk drizzle.

The size is definitely big enough to share between 2-4 people depending how much you want. My group was sharing a lot of other food so it was more than enough. I really liked that it wasn't too sweet – the strawberry ice cream was so smooth and creamy. The egg waffles were fresh, hot, and crispy on the outside with a perfectly chewy center. Overall, it was a light dessert and I enjoyed all the components.

    Would definitely recommend!
