  1. I've ordered brunch from Y Cafe since they were located on first Ave.  I haven't actually been to the new location, but I still order from their brunch menu.  I usually get their toasted bagel with smoked salmon and will occasionally splurge on a pie.  Although, I think their pie is store bought.  I can't confirm, but I don't mind.

Anyway, a solid local restaurant.  If you're too hungover and not fit for public viewing and you need to get some eats in the East Village, this is your spot!

  2. Awesome prices for the quality of the food. I came here for an early brunch with my boyfriend and we ordered several options – all of which were very satisfying. He was so happy when the bill came.

The only issue we had was that the bus boy was late to work so we had to walk around the neighborhood for 30 minutes before being seated.

  3. A great little spot for reasonably priced and relatively healthy fare, Y Cafe is the perfect place to drop by for a casual weekend brunch- or anytime eats.

This past Saturday a friend and I met here for brunch, and I ordered the Eggs Florentine with a side of home fries and coffee. For just $8.95, my meal filled me for most of the afternoon, and was tasty at that! Served over a lightly-toasted English muffin with a generous helping of freshly cooked spinach, it was also light on the oil, something that is all too uncommon in restaurants these days. Also, it was the first time that the Hollandaise sauce actually tasted more of lemon than of "butter," and made me realize that there are actually still places that serve decent versions of it!

How could I not be a fan?

  4. If you're in alphabet city, this is a cute spot with cheap but delicious food and best of all, NO wait! We showed up around 1:30 on a Saturday and were seated immediately.

We ordered the crabcake, omelette with two toppings, chicken pad thai and a blackened chicken sandwich. Each of us ordered a non-alcoholic drink a and it came out to $13 with tip and tax! Can't get cheaper than that.

They have a $10 minimum for credit card use.

  5. Ummm, cheap beyond cheap! This small cafe has limited, tight seating. So why was there a giant group of 10 transplants huddled around three cafe tables trying to have their loud boozy brunch here? Remember when brunch was a quiet, low key affair? You talked in low tones and sipped on mimosas like a lady. Now, burly men and chatty girls are cackling away next to you while drinking buckets of alcohol. The group next to me really could have killed the entire meal for me if it weren't for the quick service and the beyond cheap prices. I mean, if it's a $6 brunch, I can't complain THAT much right? I imagine that Y Cafe on a normal day is just low-key and quiet; which I like.

Y Cafe serves brunch for long hours, offers dinner and serves lunch as well. The lunch sized salads are well portioned. Each brunch offering comes with fries, or toast or a house salad. They also offer similar sides with lunch/dinner meals. It seams like everything about Y Cafe is suited to cater to the big eater – extra points!!

Some great things about Y Cafe is that there are no lines, no wait times for tables. Again, Y Cafe is small. The food is decent (not great but good enough). I'd be back again. It's a better option than some of the other ridiculous brunch places in the same area. Great option for those looking for a quiet, early Sunday morning meal.

    Also cash only.

  6. Asian infused with American and non-American dishes in East Village/ Alphabet City.  Food options are culturally diverse and hodgepodge mix.  With a party of two for a Tuesday lunch was okay.  Y Cafe is a average cafe that did not wow me with their menu nor food options as one of my Meetups gathered for lunch here.  However, having to missed that event, I did not know why Y Cafe induced me for a visit now as I was not thoroughly impressed.  They offer loose tea leafs unlike the average tea bags.

    Cajun chicken
    General Tso's chicken
    Crepes
    Pad Thai
    Humus Platter
    Lo Mein
    Caesar salad
    Fettuccini Alfredo
    Maryland Crabcakes
    Chicken Sesame
    Tortellini Primavera

For Him:  General Tso's chicken with two Serrano chili peppers $7.25 was hell spawn hot but the chicken was good, minus the Serrano chili peppers.  My poor friend was choking up a storm with tears and breaking sweats.  I specifically requested milk from the waiter as the best remedy for extreme spicy foods (source:  Discovery Channel).

For Her:  Stir Fry vegetables and shrimp with brown rice $7.25 as it contained too much vegetables and minimal rice.  The rice is not the traditional Asian long grain.  It was okay as I took a great dislike that I was unable to finish it.

Wait staff is somewhat attentive after numerous attempts to flag our waiter for milk and bill.  Why for Y Cafe?

  7. A few friends and I were in the area looking for a place to eat so we decided to stop here for brunch.

Cute little brunch spot with good ambience and stellar service. I had the Eggs Burke with home fries and tea. The food itself wasn't bad and inexpensive. Definitely recommended and would come back in the future!

  8. The babaganouj is so delicious that I'm bumping Y up a star. I thought their hummus was great, but henceforth I'm devoted to baba all the way.
