Yami-Ichi Noodle Izakaya

“The Nabeyaki Udon is amazing, and I believe that Yami-Ichi is the only udon/soba spot in Park Slope.”

“I can't wait to go back and try more dishes (and another order of the agedashi tofu, please!)”

“The vibe in the restaurant is really laid back, the service is super attentive, the food tastes great (the black cod was amazing) and the imported beer was excellent.”

  1. Ika butter – calamari sautéed in butter soy, big round slices of squid, good to start with.

Agedashi tofu – perfect, I was slurping the bowl. Eggplant dish also!

Tempura had 1 shrimp, many vegs, and no fish as listed. The batter tasted fishy though, dipping sauce was delicious.

Nabeyaki udon is served piping hot in bowl (don't burn ur tongue like I did).  Ample noodles, 2 shrimp tempura, poached egg was a good touch, elder bamboo as it was stiff, few mushroom slices, 2 slices fish cake, green onion on the side adds flavor and crunch. Add the spicy flakes they give you for a nice kick.

Full house for Sunday night dinner so took a little longer for to fill up water. Lots of alcohol choices, soda and juices available. Mochi for dessert.

Total without drinks $78. Worth it?  I'm not sure, but I'd come back for the appetizers for sure.

  2. Yami-Ichi is still in their soft opening phase…but I have already eaten there 3 times.  That says a lot about the quality of the food (but also about me and my inability to stay away from delicious Japanese food).

Apparently there is a back area of this place that has nice ambiance, but so far I have only eaten in the front room.  In the 3 visits, I have had excellent food, some ok food, had good service, and bad service, but in general, this place has a lot of potential and I hope that they work out the kinks because if so this place would rank second in Brooklyn (behind the esteemed and amazing Sushi Katseui) as my favorite Japanese spot in Brooklyn.

    The best food:

The cold soba dishes with dipping sauces are really amazing.  The soba is perfect and I like the soups you can dip them in.

The ikura/uni appetizer.  I liked this alot.  The first time I got it they gave a lot of both ikura and uni, which made it feel like it worth the price tag.

    The good food:

The ikura/uni soba.  I had this one last time.  It is pricey at 25 dollars and they didn't give as much uni as in the appetizer discussed above.  This could be an amazing dish if they just gave a bit more uni.

The agedashi tofu.  I think they do this dish just as well as Katseui, and they give more tofu.  Will definitely enjoy this one again.

    The Inconsistent:

The black cod.  The first time it was awesome.  A nice size and good taste.  The second time it was MUCH smaller.  So I am hopeful they give a nice portion of this in the future.

We had one more dish too but I don't remember it.

As for the service, it has been good except the one time it was busy.  Then it was awful, so basically they are dealing with new restaurant kinks.  I think they'll work this out and be a good restaurant…

One note, if they are reading: if you are going to have people pay on the ipad, don't hover over them while they leave the tip.  That's uncomfortable!
