Decided to make a food truck run today at the food haul in the financial district to see what food trucks were out. I stumbled upon this truck which I have never eaten from and I'm always down to try a new food truck. I wanted the Burger but apparently they were outta burgers so I ordered the "Red White & Blue" being the patriotic person that I am. Chicken tenders on thick sliced bread topped with buffalo sauce and blue cheese with a side of fries. The chicken was the best part. Cant say I loved it but it was definitely worth a shot. Service was friendly and quick. Id recommend trying it at least once.
These guys have a stand at UrbanSpace Garment District right now so I decided to give them a try for lunch.
I ordered the $10 "Winner Winner" — 4 pieces of chicken tenders, spirit of '76 sauce, Texas toast, and potato chips. They were out of fries, so they substituted a small 1 oz bag of Lay's chips instead, hardly a comparable substitute.
The chicken tenders had a lot of breading on them and were over-fried to a dark brown color. Some bites were acceptably tender, but most bites were rough, salty, and rubbery. The sauce was hardly memorable. The thick toast was good, buttered on one side and toasted just the right amount.
BEST chicken fingers in NYC! Can't go wrong here..the chicken is moist and crisp down to the last bite. Yum! The brioche bun is really good, tastes like a grilled cheese. Fries are also top notch, and the best part is they're quick and super friendly. Check em out!
I thought it was just ok. My chicken was a little tough . I had the love me tender. The fries were nice and crunchy. This is definitely not the best chicken sandwich, not even close. The owner is a hell of a nice guy. I would go back.
Another pretty good food truck option in FiDi. Sometimes they are disguised as Nick's Eatery or something like that. As the guy in the truck will tell you, best chicken fingers in New York. Can't say they're the worst and quite honestly I don't have much room to argue with him.
I've always gotten a sandwich but they are healthy size with 2 big chicken fingers between some glorious texas toast. Very tasty. The buffalo sandwich was good but hardly had any buffalo sauce or bleu cheese on it but still pretty good. The '76 sauce they give with the fries and on some of their sandwiches is pretty tasty. They do give you a big ole pickle spear as well.
The fries are ok, sometimes they have a weird taste, not bad, just weird maybe a grill taste or something. I can't put my finger on it. But overall, for $9-10 depending on what you get, it's a lot of food for a good price. Customer service is also excellent.
They also put mini American flags on all your sandwiches which I love…because. America!
In December 2012, I met a guy in the overflow line waiting for a bus to Boston who told me about how he wanted to open up shop in New York and make true, southern style chicken with good southern hospitality. He said he wanted to call his place "Yankee Doodle Dandy's".
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing more American that witnessing someone achieve what they set out to do, but after 3.5 years of waiting, I had high expectations for this chicken. And those expectations were definitely exceeded today.
Real talk, I hate condiments. Especially ones that are salmon or red in color (old childhood trauma we don't need to talk about). That being said, the 1776 sauce made my sandwich. The dill in the sauce perfectly complemented the pickles in the sandwich and didn't overpower the rest of the ingredients which definitely left room for the chicken to really shine. And those chicken tenders – the breading on that chicken was on point – beautifully seasoned, perfectly crisp, and great in quality. Five stars – but if I could give it 50 (soon to be 51) stars, I would.
Occasionally, I crave really unhealthy food, and this food truck definitely satisfied those cravings. For $10, I got a huge order of a fried chicken sandwich and fries. The highlight of the meal for me was really the fries. They were slightly thick but still crunchy and tasted extra delicious with the dipping sauce. By the time I finished the fries, I was far too full to even eat the chicken. Eventually, I did make it there, but I found the chicken to be a bit dry for my liking as I am not a fan of chicken breast (prefer chicken thighs). All in all, definitely a gem in this area!
sticking to a diet every day can drive you a bit crazy. sometimes you need to pull a cheat day, go full-on American, and Yankee Doodle Dandy's fills that craving.
I'm a big fan of the Buffalo Soldier platter. 4 large, crispy, juicy buffalo fingers, a good portion of fries, Texas toast, and seasoned potato salad. and a toothpick with the American flag in it atop the toast. all for 11 bucks. it actually reminds me of the lunch special of the late great "Chicken and Rib Crib" in Hoboken (wow, I sure am dating myself with that reference). the sandwiches are also hearty portions. sure, they have salads on the menu, but why are you getting salad from a food truck when fried chicken and burgers are the clear winner options? their buffalo sauce is definitely "spicy AF" as the youngins say these days. the potato salad can be hit-or-miss some days.
they have a frequent buyer's card – 10th meal is free when you get the card stamped with each previous purchase.
the only downside is that sometimes they have 2 people working in the truck, and sometimes more. when it's 2, the line can get a bit outrageous.
grab a platter. sit back on your Rascal scooter. brandish your 'Murican flag. you deserved it.
