Oh, how I wish I had stayed in Chinese school so I could now read the special Chinese menu that is NEVER given in these places to the gwailo. Alas, I come here with my mom and make sure I can memorize and pronounce in my broken Cantonese the names of the Chinese dishes that the locals here eat…eggplant casserole cooked with salty fish, stir fried taro, squid and Chinese chives., old water tofu….be clever and come here with a Chinese speaking friend, get the Chinese menu, order off it and you are in for a treat. They have cheap and good lunch specials. Dinner prices are reasonable. The four of us ate 5 dishes and got a bill of $56 before a tip. The Cantonese style food is fresh, and the stir fry speciaties contain less oil than many greasy Chinese dives. The place can get very busy on the weekends so come during off hours if possible so you don't have to share a table with strangers, or come with a group of people to fill up a table. The waitstaff are friendly but can be abrupt as they rush around filling orders. Service varies; sometimes the waiters will forget to bring you soup, or the peanuts my mom loves. if you patronize them often enough, they will customize specialties for you or even cook stuff you bring them. Four stars for the food, three for the okay service.
