  1. Going to an all boys Jesuit high school I had never heard the term brunch until I entered college.  Now Rob Becker of Caveman Broadway Legend probably still has never heard the term, but I must confess that a nice brunch with strong coffee in a family bar in NOLITA is truly one of the finer experiences in life.  Looking for a little brunch after Sunday Mass, makes me long for the Tombs in Georgetown.  However, this tiny little bar, serves up one great brunch.  I had the toast with avocado, and chili flakes, topped with a sunny-side up egg and some reggiano grated cheese.  It was delightful, and I cannot wait to return.  However, I am sure it is difficult to get in during the crowded brunch season?  When is that, I will have to ask my female friends who introduced me to the culinary event that is brunch.  Even though I love brunch, just saying or writing the word seems unnatural to me.  However, I cannot deny the great food at YN.  House Colombia coffee was wonderful too!

  2. I was looking for a less aggressively "brunchy" place for three. Cozy wine bar by night, YN was excessively cute and quiet on a Saturday afternoon. No basic b or sockless loafer vibes here! We arrived at 2pm and it was empty, even though the narrow space holds only 3 or 4 tables plus bar seating.

The brunch menu is served every day until 3pm, and was (as they all are) inoffensive. The eggs di parma: nicely executed scrambled eggs on crusty bread, topped with a heap of surprisingly good prosciutto. The amount of prosciutto presented to me is directly proportional to my level of joy, and I was pretty darn joyful here.

Hold your judgement on sparkling reds. My glass of Lambrusco was a modest pour for $13, but really crisp and enjoyable.

We didn't catch happy hour, but it's 4-7pm: $7 wines, $4 beers, some $5 snacks.

Food did take quite awhile to arrive, but Jason was patient and awesome. YN is definitely one of the few places I'd comfortably return to.

  3. Came for happy hour on Friday night which includes 2 whites and 2 reds under a 2-1 deal. We had 2 rounds each of the montepulciano and chenin blanc, both of generous pours and easy flavor. Even though the space is narrow and seats are limited at the bar, we found them and never felt claustrophobic. Service is easy and sweet, just like the menu. Can't wait to come back.

  4. I was craving a burger and stumbled on this little gem in the Soho area. With such good reviews I was hoping this place would be good and I am happy to report it did not disappoint!

The restaurant/bar itself is small with a few tables in the back and a long narrow bar in the front. It felt like a great personal neighborhood bar. The décor gives off a rustic vibe with all its Edison lightbulbs everywhere. We sat at the bar and we got a full-view of the food-making action because the kitchen is at the bar! Using portable stoves and an oven underneath the bar, with a limited kitchen, this place produces a top-notch burger.

We started off with the roasted Brussel sprouts, drizzled with some valentina spicy sauce. The sprouts were roasted down, a bit crisp on the outer leafs, full of the fresh rosemary flavor. Very delicious.

Then we each got the dry aged burger. It was AMAZING!! The burger was so juicy and tender and large in size. Literally, the meat drippings were coming down as I pushed the burger together. It was a beautiful sight. The flavors were powerful. You can definitely taste that this isn't your typical supermarket frozen burger. I can definitely taste that it was dry-aged. It had a sweet and nuttiness bite to it that typically comes from eating dry-aged beef. It came out piping hot, including the brioche bun as it was toasted. The burger also came with crisp lettuce, a couple slices of tomato, red onion, cornichons and a side of potato chips.  For $13, it was completely worth it.

Overall, a great experience. The air conditioning needs to be blasting a big higher as by the end of our meal we were super hot but still worth a trip for some drinks and delicious food.

  5. I came to YN with some friends after work for happy hour. It is seriously one of the cutest places I've found in the city. Hidden on Mott in Nolita, as soon as I walked in I knew I found a hidden treasure… not only is it adorable inside (it's a bit tight, but so worth it), the food and wine are delicious.

Happy Hour is great. They have crostini's for $5 (they offer 4 different varieties), and wine for $7. The wine was delicious; but for me, the main attraction was the crostini. We ordered all of them (in an attempt to soak up the wine). They have: Herbed Portobello Mushrooms & Melted Gruyere Cheese, Ground Prosciutto with Parmesan & Sage (sadly they ran out while we were there), Walnut Pesto, Thyme, Parmesan & Sun Dried Tomatoes, and lastly (my personal favorite) Roman Artichoke, Kale & Parmesan.

When I tell you that the artichoke crostini was to die for… I'm not kidding, it was TO DIE FOR. I would've ordered only that for the table, but I was in a group and being bossy and controlling is extremely frowned upon so I basically ate all of it myself, and left the rest for my friends to divvy up. I'm not saying that the walnut or mushroom crostini weren't good, but they couldn't compete with the artichoke!

Ok, my rant is over… Basically if you're looking for a awesome, intimate place in Nolita with great wine and superb food, definitely head to YN. It will not disappoint.

  6. There are plenty of awesome dining options in this part of Nolita, but not many great bars. So, when I'm killing time before a dinner reservation around there, I often find myself at YN to grab a quick glass of wine before the meal. The bartenders are always friendly, and I love the variety on the wine list. However, it seems like it's getting more and more popular, as I snagged the last open bar seat at the wee hour of 6:05pm this past Friday night.

  7. My new favorite spot in the city. Happy hour is from 12-8 on weekdays(incredible!) but I went on a Sunday and still managed to catch happy hour(4-8). Solid craft beer selection, $4 during happy hour and $6 normally which still isn't bad.

All of the appetizers looked great(and I'm sure they were) but I only ordered the burger and it was truly great. I don't have a top 5 burger list off the top of my head but it was easily top 5 quality and I can't wait to eat it again. A huge, thick patty but soft as butter when you bite in and super flavorful too. It's cooked behind the bar(I was skeptical) but easily the best burger I've had in New York. Can't say enough about it.

The bartenders/chef were so personable and helpful and the space itself is tiny but very homey. I'm sure it gets Instagrammed pretty often. So happy I decided to try this place out.

Will definitely be back, likely too often for my own good.

  8. This is one of my stop-in-after-work spots.
They have a decent happy hour, with specials on wines and a few snacks (cheeses, little toasts).

I've also had dinner here and I'm amazed by how much they accomplish behind the bar. The mussels in green curry are amazing!
