  1. 4 stars for the flavor of the food. We had our hesitations coming here but after trying to soup dumpling and sirloin noodle– we realized everything especially the broth is on point. It seems like a small mom pop family business. We came in at 1pm and there was a lunch rush. There was only one guy serving us and I think a cook from the kitchen came out to help.

I forgot to check in for a ice cream! But I will definitely be coming back for the soup dumplings– and the free ice cream.

  2. Two words: soup dumplings. I love soup dumplings so much. I've had soup dumplings before in Chinatown but Flushing, Queens is where it's at. Yu Garden Dumpling House to be exact.

I ordered the pan fried dumplings which were really good. I also ordered the crab and pork soup dumplings. Oh man, it was so so good. If I could eat them three times a day for the rest of my life, I would be a happy man.

I also ordered a bowl of soup. The broth was ok but the pork was on point. But like I said before, crab and pork soup dumplings. Get it.

  3. The Department of Health arrived a little after I did when the waiter took my order of Crab & Pork Soup Dumpling then added Deep-Fried Rice Cake (粢饭糕) which I have been searching for it thee longest time as a childhood memory visiting Shanghai when I was a little girl. I looked over the menu again and found Crispy Little Pork Moon Cake (鲜肉月饼) which is something that I love eating in Shanghai. The waiter told me and my parents that the waiting time might be longer but I really wanted to cross this off my list of To Try. He gave us free popsicles as we waited but I was assuming it was Chinese ones but Weight Watchers #bummer

Finally got my order and devour the food, omfg everything was soooooooo amazingly delicious!

If you check in with Yelp (Dining in), you will get a free popsicle. Definitely a come back =)

  4. We saw this restaurant on a recent article on soup dumplings and decided to try it out for ourselves.  The place was empty on a late Saturday afternoon and as other reviewers mentioned, some Chinese game show was playing on TV.  We ordered a pork and a crabmeat soup dumpling, with a drunken chicken and beef stew noodle soup.  The soup dumplings were indeed pretty good and deserved a spot on the article.  BUT that's it.  The drunken chicken cold dish tasted like it's been sitting in the back of the refrigerator for days.  Yes, it had a refrigerator taste.  Not sure how to describe what that tastes like, but it just did.  Moreover, the beef stew noodle soup tasted kind of bland and came with green veggies that were not washed well enough.  I found bugs on them.  BugS with an S.  Not bug, but bugS.  Stop by for some soup dumplings, but stop there.

  5. Rumored to have amazing xiao long baos – I have to say…it's pretty darn good (not Din Tai Fung level) but it's pretty freakin' delicious! While in most other xiao long bao places I'd prefer the mixed crab meat ones over the regular pork ones…at Yu Garden I think the go-to would be the regular pork xiao long bao! They're soupier (this is a good thing) than their crab counterpart and I can't explain why, but the broth is just more tasty in comparison.

Take a chance on the taro puffs – they have a nice "golden" taste, and I was pleasantly surprised! The pan fried soup dumplings might be another staple that people get, but I could probably pass on that in the future, it didn't feel like anything special to me and I've definitely had better elsewhere! Lastly, if you're there early in the day, and you're open to it, I'm a fan of sweet, warm soy milk. YEA. I said it. I love it. This place does it well. do it. #soybeanmilkFTW

After visiting this establishment, I would go back purely for the xiao long bao and soybean milk  – it's a small establishment, its not a fancy shindig of any sort – you literally sit down and it's all about ordering the food, but if you're in the area (and you don't want to go all the way down to main st. flushing) this might be a good alternative!

  6. The restaurant has a B rating. I was a bit skeptical eating here after the reviews but decided to come by anyway. When I got to the restaurant, I realized I've been here once before yesterday's visit and know why I couldn't remember. It wasn't too memorable.. Both times were take out and overall felt the food was average. Nothing outstanding.

I ordered the seafood pan fried noodle, shanghai noodle and the pork soup dumplings. The seafood pan fried noodle's flavor is lacking and there was only a couple pieces of fish, small shrimps (not prawns), and very little imitation crabmeat. I didn't like the veggies they used. I'd rather have the standard chinese broccoli in it. The shanghai noodles were better in flavor but there was so little pork in it, you could have missed it. As for the dumplings, flavor was simple but decent tasting. It's an OK option if you're close by, but I would do dine-in for the soup dumplings only. FYI parking around the area is very difficult and traffic is hectic b/c of the Chinese Market across the street.

  7. This is a hidden gem!

My bf and I ordered soup dumplings, sirloin noodle soup, noodles with peanut sauce and beef tripe.

Allergic to peanuts so couldnt eat the noodle with peanut sauce . Ate the beef tripe and thought it was too spicy.

Soup dumplings was super fresh and if youre like me who likes the soup dumpling skin thing you will love it here! Sirloin beef noodle soup was on point! Beef was cooked to perfection. Cant wait to come back and try more!

Oh i got a chocolate popsicle for checking into yelp!:)

I also got the soy milk. Loved how it was super cold and it came in a bowl.. Super asian  ^.^

  8. Tried the soup dumplings here.   There were two types: one with thinner dough that was steamed and another one that was fried with a thicker dough.  The steamed version was not bad, but not the best that I've had.  The broth was not as hearty as the one from Joe ginger.  I only ever tried the fried version here, so can't compare it to other places.  Since the dough was heavier it was more filling than the steamed version, but just as flavorful.  It is worth trying, but will fill you up quickly.  Service seemed to be lacking and the waiter ignored us when we tried to get his attention to redeem the Yelp check on offer.  Probably won't be back since there are better options not too far away.
