It's average, for what you'd expect in Newark train station (that should tell you enough!) not too shabby. I needed a quick sandwich to grab in between trains, but didn't want a nasty burger or fries. The sandwich shop next to the liquor store had a line and slow unresponsive employees, so I went across the hall to Zaros. Here I ordered a veggie panini, they heated it up in the giant toaster and it was pretty good. Had melted cheese, lots of zucchini chunks, some eggplant and tomatoes. Overall pretty good, but the panini plus an Honest Tea cost $10, so kind of a rip off.
I can't complain. I needed lunch after getting off the train at Newark Penn station, and hoped for something reasonably healthy. The tuna garden salad fit the bill, although I probably ruined everything by also getting an almond horn. The tuna salad was nice – a really generous serving of tuna, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, red peppers, and really delicious croutons on a bed of crisp, good-looking lettuce. Everything was tasty and fresh, which is hard in a prepared salad. Then I went for the almond horn, which weighed about 15 pounds (ok, more like 1, but it was very heavy!). It was good – chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside, with that shiny non-chocolatey chocolate on the ends, which were unfortunately a little overcooked. I would have preferred an even stronger almond flavor, but it was still pretty darn enjoyable.
My first reaction: OMG where us this from?!
I have not actually gone here but recently my marketing director has been bringing in a lot of yummy goodies & she last purchased cookies from this bakery.
When I walked in the office and saw the cookies at reception I thought they were cute because they had smiley faces on them. I said ah I'll try one later. Then I got hungry and grabbed one after that one cookie I finished a whole container by my self.
The cookies were called little Chinese cookies and they were so delicious! I've heard many great things about this bakery. While I can't comment on pricing, customer service or cleanliness at this time I can say that the cookies I tried were delicious and I do intend on purchasing from here in the near future. I would recommend others to try this place out as well.
I usually hit this spot in Newark Penn Station in the morning when I want a hot cup of Lavazaa coffe. They have bagels that are quite good. Best thing in Penn Station Newark, which is Dante's Inferno on a good day.
We were heading out to the World Trade Center and needed a quick breakfast. I didn't realize that the PATH won't allow you to eat on the train but my group of 14 was able to get a muffin, bagel or pastry to go within 10 minutes.
There was a homeless/ panhandler begging for money, and the staff did their best to tell the woman to go away. I guess it was on deaf ears because the beggar kept pestering us.
I would stop here again. The coffee was hot and decent, and my bagel was nice and full of cream cheese goodness.
Out of all of the options at Newark's Penn Station, this is definitely one of the best ones (unless you want a once frozen donut from Dunkin Donuts!). Lots of choices for breakfast and lunch, and the desserts always look super impressive.
I knew I would need a snack for the 6+ hour train trip back to Richmond, and since I packed some fruit for the road, decided to splurge on a (gigantic) red velvet cookie with white chocolate chips baked in. It was pretty good — parts on the outside seemed a bit too crunchy (almost made me wonder how long the cookie had been sitting out) but the inside of the cookies with pretty soft and chewy.
The service, though, was fantastic. Really friendly staff working!
Stopped in this joint on my way to a YEE, and decided to see what this place was about. I was starvin' Marvin, and needed some nourishment. So what better to fill my tummy with than a scrumptious bagel with lox and veggie cream cheese, and a slice of wonderful carrot cake??? The sammich was the absolute shizzle-dizzle. Loved it. Tore it UP. Tore it DOWN. I just tore that bih all around. The carrot cake was so dense, moist, and decadent. The red velvet cookie that I had, on the other hand? Eh. I think it may have just been a bad cookie day. Considering that most places nowadays don't make hard cookies any more, I would go out on a limb and just say that maybe they held those cookies in stock too long.
Aside from that, the staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. LOVE them. I'm back any time I'm there.
In Newark Penn station this is the best place to get quick breakfast or beverage. The lines are normally long during peak hours but they're pretty good at giving fast service. A couple of times my order wasn't right so I suggest you double check your orders before you get on the bus or train. All and all fresh bagels and a good selection of teas… I'm happy!
