Zaytoons

“the zataar bread, the garlic bread, the lentil soup, the hummus, the mujadarra, the labneh – I could go on.”

“Also had the garlic pitza which seemed a little greasy but had good flavor.”

“The food here is really excellent and a good value, but what puts it over most others in the area is that is has an absolutely lovely backyard garden.”

  1. It's cash only and the food took a while, but the service was great and I'm a sucker for Middle Eastern food and this place was heaven. I got the chicken shawarma platter with hummus and my friend got the chicken kebab platter with baba ghanoush (she said the baba ghanoush was underwhelming) and it did not disappoint. It was so damn tasty. WOOHOO

  2. Zaytoons is the ideal location in the neighborhood for a weekend summer dinner spot with friends. We went with some friends to the outdoor patio space – a really strong smell of citronella candles hits you, but once you get past the smell you are immeasurable grateful that those buggers are far far away! Its cozy, simple seating with tasty affordable mediterranean food.

I've been here countless times and the food is always great – we had warm pita with a few apps, the hummus is a must have! We enjoyed various sandwiches: the falafel, kafta, chicken schwarma. All really good! We were joking during dinner that this place definitely channels the Paris ethic of eating – you don't get a whole lot of service, but you can sit and enjoy meal and company for as long as you want.

Cash only, blech, hate it but have no choice when you're in Brooklyn. Otherwise a great summer spot! I mean, come here the other seasons too, I just won't vouch for the outdoor patio space when hell freezes over in a few months.

  3. Good vegetarian options!  With an option of eggplant humus or regular hummus! Tried the eggplant hummus ( starts with a B) and it was great! Large portions with a beauty outdoor setting.

Outdoor setting – beautiful but bugs fall down from the trees above!

    Love the area!

  4. Food was flavorful, prices were good, staff was very nice.
However, I can't necessarily say the staff was attentive! We had kind of an awkward order because we ordered our food to-go instead of to stay. Mine was prepared first (veggie pita sandwich), and they handed it to me as a wrap, not a pita. They did not give any napkins or utensils, just a brown paper bag. I was starving so I started eating it as we were still waiting for the other orders, and then… explosion! My wrap leaked everywhere. The wrap was still perfectly intact (did not fall apart) but all this liquid came out of it. There was a ton of grilled veggie juice or water or something, and I got all over my purse, my jacket, my shoes, and the floor. It leaked through the wax paper, tin foil, and brown paper bag. That's not supposed to happen, it stained everything, and it was gross. I don't know why there was that much liquid in my wrap to begin with. I had to ask them for extra napkins and a fork and a plastic bag. After my sandwich was done leaking everywhere, it ultimately did taste good.

  5. Hubby and I took our 1 year old to meet some friends here for a Sunday evening dinner. There was another family having dinner and celebrating a birthday in the restaurant. This place is wonderfully warm and charming. The food was all delicious, and reasonably priced. Very happy to have them in the neighborhood!

  6. Updating my review because we came back and had take out, which we will
NEVER do again! Had the falafel and veggie kabob platters – the salad was browned, veggies were burnt, and the baba ganoush was old and had a strange consistency. The rice was overdone and falafel drenched in oil. They told us the food would take 10 minutes but took 25 instead. Don't get take out from here!  Not sure if I'll give them my business again.

  7. Good food, large portions, and reasonable prices. Had the falafel platter myself and also tasted some of the pita pizzas. Everything was prepared well and had good flavor. Small place that had a pretty cool vibe. Apparently they have a nice outside patio too, but it was closed when we went (nice day in February)

  8. Definitely great vegetarian and vegan options. I dined with a large group and we shared a couple combo platters. My favorite items were the baba ganouj, fresh falafel, and the stuffed grape leaves.
